Thanks for the early review. From the sound of it, the way it plays out is just like Beneath the Stolen Lands, which takes multiple runs to beat the final boss. Don't think I will spend that much time on this DLC, but it's great to spend another 10-20 hours, though.

Finished my first (and probably last) run on core difficulty, main character was a dhampir spawn slayer, followed by a half-orc steelblood bloodrager, a halfling skald, a human kineticist, a dhampir dirge bard and a human slayer. Had my steelblood tanking most of the time while my slayers shot everything along my water and earth kineticist and the skald + bard buffed everyone.

The decision that I find difficult is whether to play this DLC in my main playthrough (I am at the very start of Act 3). On one side, I would get extra XP and items, but on the other side I would spend most probably over 20 hours (I am slow and turn-based) trying not to die (main party).

I really hope the concept of roguelite portions makes more appearences within the crpg genre: more so than companions it is a relatively convenient means to allow players that are somewhat inexperienced within the genre experience various character and party archetypes without expending many hundreds of hours: aiding them to familiarise themselves more to the normally daunting genre.
@shawngillogly68732 жыл бұрын
Even if you play for the story, being able to make a character build that works for you. As opposed to a Neoseeker triple-dip monstrosity, is worth playing these for. Because once you know what works, you can recreate it much more easily in the Main Campaign. My one minor concern is that it already is so easy to hit level 20 in Wrath that I'm not sure how playing a side DLC makes sense in story terms. In Kingmaker, you needed the DLC, and thorough exploration, to reach lvl 20 before the final battle. And it usually was right before the final battle. Wrath you hit max level before Act 5 is done even if you're not a completionist. That is a minor discouragement when it comes to playing a super-long side mission. Though I guess it makes it safe to skip Blackwater and take a different quest. 😁

Idk about other builds but for those having problems with the elemental resistances just pick the mythic feat Ascendant Element and you can use any element just fine as it will bypass resistances and immunity to the element you pick. This is the first DLC they released that is a mandatory buy for me. I played the randomized dungeon for Kingmaker a ton just to get a feel for different classes. And this one seems to be a whole lot more fleshed out than that. Also some cool patchnotes for 1.4. All animal companions with the Gore attack type now get a free trip attack which at least makes them competitors to the wolf and hound. And a big nerf to the Wolfscarred Face curse which used to be pretty much a boon for all characters who did melee. Now they get a 10% chance of spell failure which makes it much less of an easy pick for me and only viable if you focus on melee and keep your spells as a backup.

When you call the game a rogue-lite (at least, my ears hear lite and not like), I'd like to ask a clarification on what you mean by rogue-lite vs rogue-like. I know there's a lot of opinions out there, but i tend to lean on 'like' meaning progress made on a run for the most part does not help your next run (FTL being one i'd consider a rogue-like), whereas when i hear 'lite' i think 'progress made this run will make the next run easier with permanent buffs for successive runs' (a la rogue legacy 1/2). Could you elaborate on your distinction if you haven't already?
