The builders and designers did exactly what they should for the show, which was to try out different ideas, in some cases just to express themselves. It’s how innovations are realized. Thank you for showing more of the bikes.

Straps on racks is something i see quite open in Germany. And forever. Most bikes here are not for sports. And the most usage of bikes is not for pleasure but ror practicality and transport. The idea of straps to put things onto your bike didnt take over hundred years to come up with. At least for bikes that are meant to work instead of being meant to impress in any way.
@jameshenehan9670Күн бұрын
I use a cargo net for motorbikes strapped onto my rack. It holds down a waterproof bag (for my CCF pad), and then water/layers can be stuffed on top
@scottw4202Күн бұрын
I really like the idea of integrating cord within racks. It would lighten the overall weight, and still provide support. Also, it could be easily replaced if it gets cut or weakens over time, and you could add different accent colors for an interesting look.
@LaustinSpayce10 сағат бұрын
The one that really caught my eye are the micro cargo bikes. I have two young kids and ride in a city, with a small apartment. This form factor would be perfect for myself if there were configurations where I can carry a 3 year old and a 1 year old to school at the same time (and then onward to work!) all the conventional “kid hauling” bikes are long tails, bakfiets, adding loads of seats to the stem and rear which they inevitably outgrow etc. need something small and light and that fit in an elevator easily!

I love the look of the twin top tubes when they sweep down into the seat stays.

Modern cordage is amazingly strong. I was using some 3mm Kevlar with an engine hoist to lift a 2.0 litre diesel engine out of my van. The actual breaking strain is near a tonne, yet easily threaded and flexible!

I am surprised to not see more trailers. Whenever I need to carry stuff I hook up the bob trailer on my regular bike. No need to own several types of bikes, any bike can pull a trailer. When the kids were young I used a Burley (it was another brand from Canada at the time) for kids but also for cargo. Now the one wheel bob suffices, it’s better in many ways for cargo. What would be nice is a trailer that easily turns into a shopping cart.
@PathLessPedaledTVКүн бұрын
A bike barely fits much less a trailer in our elevator. Space is more of a premium and a personal garage is less common in EU cities.
@weatheranddarknessКүн бұрын
@@PathLessPedaledTV A bike and a trailer is easier to fit in an elevator than a cargo bike.
@LucasShmucasКүн бұрын
@@PathLessPedaledTVThe Burley Travoy might work - it folds very flat and can double as a shopping cart, if you use the Burley bags. We combined one with our Bromptons to made an awesome touring rig for the Hebridean Way. The best bit was being able to fold it all up and put it into the luggage compartment of a bus for the journey back to Inverness. I'm a big fan of trailers and live in Scotland, so understand the space restrictions. The Travoy is possibly my favourite trailer because it's really light and so practical.
@m.talley166020 сағат бұрын
I'd like to see the Travoy design improved on. I have one and have seen one that wasn't holding up to well as the usage and accumulated wear from folding was leading to it's failure.
@PathLessPedaledTV19 сағат бұрын
@@weatheranddarkness Depends on the cargo bike and the elevator. In our situation a mini cargo bike works much better than any bike and separate trailer.

The Jones 29er mountain bike uses a truss front fork but with intentional flex in vertical only direction. It is a trend I wish to see embraced.

No flex in a Jones truss fork. Just more rigidity .

Always good to see a little creativity! Some things, like the twin top tubes, have been done before, but I understand the desire to stand out from the crowd. The Colnago Bi-titan might be the most recent example of twin tubes. They replaced the downtube with two parallel tubes. It's not a great choice, since the torsional stiffness is reduced. Back in the 1930's, there was the Moorson Twin Tube, where the top and down tubes were made of twin tubes. Considering that people have been refining the design of the bicycle for over a hundred years, it's not a surprise that most ideas have already been tried. It's still fun to see what folks can come up with, though! Thanks for sharing.

While I like the idea behind Fidlocks magnetic attachment, in my experience the Osprey hose magnetic holder will attract dirt and any metallic pebbles. When it comes to panniers, fork bags and such that are more likely to pick up dirt I'd think this could be a tad annoying. More prevalent in the dirt touring space, but likely less an issue in urban cycling settings. Not a huge issue, but I'd likely just stay with straps and Tailfin style clamps.

Stretch cords on racks, flash back to the early 1980's. The truss forks look very similar to somethin Schwinn had in the 1950's, Frist bike I got had a spring loaded truss fork, that was in 1964. If you wait long enough it will come around again. I swear I saw someone wearing brown corduroy bell bottom pants the other day.

@johnbrooks39322 сағат бұрын
I wonder if wear & tear would be a thing with the built-in cords. I suppose lots of stuff wears out on a bike and needs replacing. Makes me think about putting a bungee type cord permanently on my Tubus Fly rack. I recently was on a ride and really needed to ditch my jacket. My handlebar bag wasnt big enough and I had no way to strap it to my rack so rolled it up and shoved it in my jersey (that was a look.)

Fair point. The dyneema would probably last an extremely long time but other materials would probably need to be re-strung every so often.

Mini/compact cargo bikes are certainly gaining popularity here in Europe, lots of brands are popping up with a compact or mini cargo offering. Those fidlock integrations looked good, though I'm less keen on integrated bungees/cords in racks as in my experience, bungees lose their elasticity fairly quickly under regular use. Maybe bungee technology has moved on and it's much more durable these days, or maybe it's my fault for always buying the cheap bungee multi packs from a hardware shop instead of posh ones! Either way, I'd rather not have integrated bungees on my racks.

I have seen some popularity in short tail e-cargo bikes in one of the more bike friendly areas in my city. I would imagine a lot has to do with the modest pricing of Lectric and Aventon has on their bikes and with it being an area with young families the appeal of kid carrying helps as well.

The San Sebastian truss bike is a monstrosity. The goopy, gloopy, excessively oversized brazing for the truss elements is hideous. The truss itself seems tinker toy like and less than thought through; more like a truss for a truss's sake and not a contributor to well thought out design. (Professional mechanical engineer here). I shudder when I look at it.

I weird how you crap on GCN when they are by their own account a road cycling focused channel… (but they actually have covered most of this stuff and are creating way more bike packing content these days)… they don’t claim to represent bike packing or alt cycling so I don’t see why you are constantly crying about them. They have their niche, you have yours, others have theirs… quit comparing and complaining they don’t show what you want… that is the entire reason your channel exists… it’s a little tiring…

I hope there will be lot of solutions for the older / traditional bagsystems for example Ortlieb or Vaude or…to update to the fitlock system. I’m not sure if you already talked about it in the video. Is there any possibility to get information about it? What do you think about it? Greetings🙂👋🏻
