I think he’s concerned it has a compass inside…magnets will affect magnetic north 😎
@antoinecharpentier24604 ай бұрын
Not only the compass but also the data stored on it. Electrons spins can defer due to magnetic field thus resulting in loss of information. It might be very slow but on the long term there might be a risk of loosing event a part of the firmware..

Magnets seem bad for displays - been a while and tech has changed but I recall leaving swirls on early LCDs with magnets.
@peglor4 ай бұрын
The magnetic compass is the only sensor that should be affected by having the magnets close by. I'd like to hear Garmin say it's safe to use before putting my head unit near it. Without the compass working you'll have to be moving before the map and compass can orient themselves correctly.

I got an old single speed/fixed gear last year that had 25mm Gatorskin tires. They were getting worn out so I replaced them with 28mm Gravel Kings, because that's the widest tire the bike shop guy said would fit my bike (though after getting them on, I think I could have gotten away with 30mm). The first thing I noticed was that the Gatorskins were quite a bit "taller" than the Gravel Kings - meaning they stuck out vertically from the rim a lot more. So yeah, tires can be tricky to fit.
@lulucatchoo26004 ай бұрын
That makes sense because the gatorskins are supposed to be more puncture resistant and help avoid pinch flats so the sidewalls and rubber overall is stiffer.

WOW! I think GPS mount would be a great piece for anyone that rides. I'd love to have the tire measuring tool, but what I find when sizing up tires is that the fork is always wider than the seatstays... and quite often the measurement for both is quite different. Thanks for sharing, some great tips that's for sure!

Hahn also made (maybe still does) a gauge to tell you if your chainrings will hit the chainstay, or do you need a deeper indent (or longer spindle)? Also the clearance for the pedal end of the crank. You can do that with measurements, or just bolting on the actual crankset you plan to use, but Hahn's tool makes it quick'n'easy. I have two of the tire checkers because I bought an early one, then the v.2 was enough better that I just had to upgrade. I'm a fan.

I love those bells. I mount on the top of the bar next to the stem however... I can reach the ringer quickly with my thumb, and it's super-stealth there. Mine gets a lot of use on some popular trails. I have learned that if the people walking in the trail appear to be older folks, they might not hear the bell! It has happened to me a few times, including a woman just yesterday with a dog on a log leash swerving around ahead of me. In fact, last year a group of older people were walking four-wide, pretty much blocking the whole path. Multiple rings as I got closer.. no response. I was ringing it until 5 feet away, and when I passed the guy on the outside he jumped and yelled Jeeze!! because I had surprised him. So four oldsters together couldn't hear the bell.

There are lots of instances when mounting it on the stem is not possible. If you've got a particularly short stem and there's no real estate or if you're using a bag with a rando elastic closure that would interfere with it.

Stonger Magnets will effect an electronic compass no question on that happens with mine but the GPS itself it wont aslong as its calibrated each time its removed and fitted again ( going round in a circle 3 times normally works) Garmin themselves "Oh i dont know" so just be aware of the sats are connected to 3 at each time you’ll be fine for it triangulating m, but just keep it in mind if using stong earth magnetics like that less is more! They will permanently screw up an electronic compass and not a GPS that receives signals

The tire width tool wouldn’t have helped me recently. Just got some RH Rat Trap Pass 26x2.3” 58-559 tires and mounted them on some vintage Saturae x28 MTB rims 3/4 inch wide. RH says they mount at 52mm way below the 58. On my rims they are 47mm almost 1cm less than the label. Does anyone else have this experience. BTW the tires are so good that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to choose another brand.

The first one - the magnet doohickey: It's a "Yes!" from me. Possibly even a "Hell yeah!" The tyre sizing thing... meh. Maybe. But I'm not swapping tyres and wheelsets often enough to justify it. The third one - the bell. Yeah, I'm out, with an absolute "Hell No." Honestly, just fit the fricken' bell to the bars below the brifters, and positioned so that you can flick it with your thumb while on the hoods. The added advantage of this is that it won't get in the way of your bar bag.
