its a neat idea but 2kg for a bike rack is kindve ridiculous. i feel like you'd be better of just keeping a non-collapsing large-sized bike rack on the bike permanently rather than a super heavy one that can collapse

40kg mounted BEHIND the rear axle = guaranteed wheelies everywhere, all the time! 😂
@19jaan
@19jaan 5 ай бұрын
At the moment I have a rack which supports 50kg. My problem is the position of the panniers. With my size 17 shoes I need more space to pedal without scratching my panniers reasoned in the length of the chainstay. Next bike I will get for sure a much longer chainstay. But for now that rack is the cheapest solution to my problem. As a 6'6 person I don't think I'm in danger to wheelie up any hill due to the nice geometry of the rest of my bike.

Yes, but ortlieb is hitting at a reasonable price point. I can just about stomach spending £70 on a rack, considering the amount of use I put my bikes through. Tailfin's pricing makes my wallet weep.
@JiorujiDerako

I've already got the "old" QR rack + some of the classic panniers to go with it, wasn't cheap but feels super solid when you clip it in, I can certainly recommend it if the ~$100 price tag doesn't scare you (yes it's affordable for what it is, but a 'standard' rack could be half that and still just as solid). Being able to take it off even when the panniers are on it is super handy, I've found. Makes a nice handle for carrying both bags or standing them up somewhere. Nicest thing about the rack IMO, aside from build quality, is the fact that a new set of eyelet mounts is like $8 so you can in theory just buy one rack and have a set of mounting hardware on as many bikes as you like, so it swaps easily between them! I'm kinda hopeful the thru-axle won't be too expensive, since at the moment I use the rack on a MTB and I'd love to also mount it to my gravel bike, but since the sizing's a bit different the rack doesn't sit level on one if you set it up for the other. More mounting options will help with keeping it fitted to multiple bikes.

Wow that chain-wear tool is awesome! I also like the strap-on cleats, I wouldn't use it for actual cycling but I have SPDs on my city bike and sometimes I want to ride it for things where I don't want to be stuck wearing my bike shoes. The 40kg rack I'm not too sure about, the reason racks are only rated for 25kg is that that's the limit for the mounting hardware and the eyelets on your frame. So sure the rack itself can be rated for any weight but as they say "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link". It also puts weight behind the rear wheel which is a recipe for speed-wobbles.

@@travisfinucane I hope the MKS quality rubbed off on the tong design but I too have my doubts. It's something I could plausibly use for touring but would want to see more of that product up close to persuade me to get them. You know what I thought it was at first before he opened it up? A compact bow saw. Agree, the pedals look great. Did MKS not have any other new models to show?

That new Jack rack may solve my long struggle with losing the top of my drop bars when I mount up a bag. The foam spacers that many bags include get squished, let the bag shift around and yet still don’t leave enough room for my fingers to wrap around the bars. I’m hopeful the Jack or others let me regain my full bars!

You covered lots of interesting new products! Internal routing on a rack for dynamo lighting is super clever and I award extra points for that! The expanding function is clever but perhaps not as practical as one would think given the weight limits. I purchased an Ostrich bag around 2017 or so. Great randonneuring bag and pairs well with the Nitto mounting systems. I picked it up on a whim while I was ordering some hard to find rims or tires. I immediately swapped out the black elastic for fuschia to match my anodized purple parts and then swapped the Ostrich brand logo for my workshop patch so people can see the kind of bespoke builds I do. While you can put maps in the clear top area, I find it useful for a small solar array for passive battery charging. I've seen the Chocobar on a Japanese site before. I know I've seen the chocolate shaped tire levers as well. Funky product! I can tell you this: The marketplace needs better bicycle bells. More repetitive strikers, two tone strikers, etc. The market also needs more refined handlebar-clamped and bar end mirrors. Touring/utility bikes could benefit from slightly larger stable mirrors with higher finish quality compared to what exists currently. Need good convex shapes as well. Being heard, seeing and being seen... let's push the marketplace to greater heights!

That Kronfeld rack must really offset the balance of the bike though. If packed full or having two kids on it, the center of the weight could move beyond the rear wheel. Smallest bump would result in a wheelie.
@FfortheT
@FfortheT 5 ай бұрын
Right, probably you should pack up the front as well (as done in the booth bike)
@ztsb_koneko
@ztsb_koneko 5 ай бұрын
At that point you just have to start applying basic vehicle loading principles and never load the heavy stuff in the rear. Heavy load on the wheel axle and in the front, lightest load in the back and you'll be just fine... It's obviously intended for a hardcore bike packer who already used up all the other space on their rig and looking to expand. Not for joyriding with your kids lol
@steefant
@steefant Күн бұрын
@@ztsb_koneko i see a lot potential for traveling with this in trains. it's way easier to get accepted by the conductor with a shorter bike and many rail companies enforce a length limit for "normal" bike tickets (i.e., outside special cargo carriages that become rarer and rarer in europe). so this is a very nice workaround for this.

You could easily jut attach it to rear rack for the same effect! I might try it. I am totally gonna make my own safety "lantern!" I am amazed at what they come up with that a simple, cheap, bunjee cord will work for just as well. L9ve the slip on cleats! I like the Jack rack but what keeps it from bouncing? That tiny front click fix rack is def something I would buy for my Bike Friday! Def gonna contact my friend here at Burley in Eugene about that wagon! Thanks, Russ and Laura! Great ideas over there. 1:13 i believe, this kind of measurement is good for very specific chains, as 8sp chains have a much bigger gap tolerance, than 11sp or 12sp. It's even told to clean the chain before measuring (not to let sand and dirty grease buildups get in the way, I can imagine) -- how does it compare to the initial slackness of 8sp chain, that can be twisted 1 full turn right from the box
