Syn Palmer Hello Syn, I honestly have not tried to use the chalk paint over frosted glass. But are you on Facebook? There's a page called Mason Jar Madness and Decoupage/ It's almost all about decoupage. The group is closed but if you tell them that Patti from youtube sent you they'll let you right in, and there are so many people on that page. Someone is always on it and they are so helpful and friendly. You may want to friend them and ask them if they have tried it. I'm sure someone had to have tried it. Sorry I didn't have a more definitive answer for you Syn. Thank you for your compliment too! Patti

So beautiful! !! Love it. I've done photo transfers on canvas and wood but never glass, its great to know that it takes well to the chalk paint, you've got me wanting to try it. Do you think a crackle medium would work to give it a vintage look? If so, would you then use a different sealer than mod podge?
@patioelf9 жыл бұрын
melinda johnston Hi Melinda and thank you! The crackle medium would work on the napkins and probably the transfer, although you would probably need to use a rub on chalk or pastel that's sheer enough for your image to come through just fine, yet settle into the cracks. I used a product called Triple Thick as my sealer, Mod Podge was the decoupage glue. I always add a top coat or sealer so as long as you keep to a "water based" top coat you're fine. Let me know how you make out! Patti

Thank you so much for answering me so quickly. I really enjoy all of your videos. I am just wondering what you think of the "home made" mod podge made from glue and water? Do you think it would be ok for decoupaging?
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
Hi Mel, and you are so welcome! I don't use that because to me the finish looks a little plastic like-but when you're first starting out or experimenting it's fine to use. If you're in the U.S. it's so much better to use a coupon in the craft stores and buy a decoupage glue. They have different polymers in them, they are acid free (so your project won't turn a dingy color over time) and they're not that expensive. :) Hope that helps! Patti

@patioelf9 жыл бұрын
Karine van daele Thank you Karine, I put my jar in a cold oven (there's much less chance of it breaking or cracking) then I turn the oven on to 170 Fahrenheit. My oven will make a small ding sound when it reaches 170, I then turn it off and leave the jar in for about a 20 minutes. I would say it takes about a half an hour or so. It's ok to leave it in for a little longer or a little less though. Patti

Thanks for the video. I am having trouble with the finish of the look when painting with chalk Paint and I've tried different brushes and the craft small yellow foam rollers they sell on on eBay which was worse. ? It comes out streaky and uneven any suggestions. Also I did the transfer but I got patches where the picture rubbed off too while it's still a nice look as I have used a retro woman you didn't seem to have any issues with this I did I have it too wet? I left it to dry for 2 days before rubbing the picture ? Thanks again your videos are great.
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen-there are a few things that could be going wrong. The chalk paint may be old or you may not have a good brand. Some people make their own and they are not very good. That's the first thing, the second thing is that the surface has to be free of oils, even from finger prints. I use a 97% alcohol to rub all of my projects down first. What are you using for the transfer? Are you using a transfer medium? Mod Podge or a gel medium? I have had the best luck with Gel Medium, though it's not luck , the gel medium works the best. Also it's really challenging if you use ink jet prints. The laser prints are the best to use for transfers. You can make copies of your papers at the copy centers where all of the self serve machines are laser printers. You also can apply one layer of the gel medium over your paper, a thin layer. Let it dry. Then add the gel medium to your surface, put the paper over it and use a brayer or spoon to get it to transfer. :) I hope these tips help! Patti

patioelf thanks I have found a better sponge and it's working better. I think when I'm rubbing the image I have to be more careful with the full colour images but as I'm using a vintage type picture I'd I rub a bit off it looks part of the aged. Thanks again your videos are so helpful. PS the triple thick is this just a normal wood varnish I'm looking for it in Australia .. Karen

Hi Deb and thank you! In the past I had much better luck with laser prints really. I just didn't like having to go to the copy center all the time. Just to be on the safe side, if I were you I would search here on youtube "how to transfer a laser copy" . You might need to use a gloss medium for that, but I'm not sure. Mod Podge tends to work for everything! Let me know how you make out! Patti

@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
Hello! Are you going to decoupage over the chalk paint or will you just leave them with the paint? You will want to seal them with a varnish, but if you decoupage it you'll want to seal it after you decoupage it, if you aren't decoupaging it you can use a spray varnish like Triple Thick amzn.to/2cQXrMX or for a flat finish this product works great....amzn.to/2cliaso I hope this helps! So when you place the photo face down it will transfer onto the Jar within a few hours?
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
+Teresa Bridges Hi Teresa, a lot of videos suggest letting it dry over night, and yes, the copy does transfer to the surface. But I tend to like to speed up the drying time by putting it in the drying drawer of my oven for a few hours. You can also put it in the oven -the oven is cold, I set it to 170, when it reaches 170 I turn it off and leave the jar in the oven to cool down with the oven. It dries really quickly this way instead of waiting over night. :) Patti

@patioelf9 жыл бұрын
Hi Shosy! I will decoupage anything. Yes, do recommend decoupaging it, I would first coat it with Gesso. You can then paint over that and decoupage or just decoupage over it. They do make clear gesso now so if you don't want to paint it, you can use the Gesso-it makes for a very good base coat on a soft surface. :) Patti

Hi Ebania, LOL, your daughter has you doing something fun so that's good :) I do have some embellishments on my page, I'll post the link here but if you don't like what's on my page just go to the top of the page and enter a search like "bling embellishments, or pearl embellishments, crystal, diamond, whatever you like. If you are near a Joannes store, the ones near me have this huge jewelry department so I go in there when they have a half off sale and buy so much stuff! It's fun!!! Thank you for being so complimentary Ebania, you are so sweet! Patti

thansk you so much for the tutorials but i always get scared to heat the glass or any project in oven ans the bottle should be given a coat of sealer

Hello Reshmi and thank you. The projects don't have to be dried in the oven-you can air dry them. I never advise anyone to use the oven once they add a top coat. :) Patti
