Thank you for the detailed video. I’ve learned a lot from your previous videos. I’m kind of stuck on a clay pot decoupage project and I don’t want to ruin it at the final step. I sealed pot with Patio Paint, then used Mod Podge Dishwasher to apply tons of pictures (laser printed). Coated with same Mod Podge X5 thin coats. (Might’ve been x4 or x6, lost count.) It’s been 8 days. I want to apply a final waterproofing coat. Mod Podge Dishwasher directions say cure 28 days. This won’t ever see a Dishwasher and it’s a gift for early May. Can you recommend a waterproof method and can I apply it now? Thank you for the time you take to read this. And advice!

@patioelf9 жыл бұрын
+Gargi Tarafdar Hi Gargi! I use Mod Podge which is good to use in the oven. You decoupage your item, then set it in your oven-turn the oven on and set it to 170 degrees. When it reaches 170 turn it off but leave your project in the oven until it cools off. (about an hour) I hope this helps! Thank you, Patti

Can I ask, why do you put the painted pot in the oven before you Modge Podge the pictures onto the pot? I have decoupaged several terra cotta pots with napkins or die cuts. Then sealed them with a spray sealant. I don't understand the purpose of putting the painted pot in the oven and then proceeding to decoupage. Thanks I love the idea of decoupaging the pots. Pretty Pots! Why did you paint the inside with paint when it doesn't show up and add the modge poge and spar? Could I use a plastic pot and do all of the steps the way you outlined? Have you had any pots in the oven explode? Thank you, Dawn
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
hit there Dawn and thank you! The terra cotta pots are so porous the water from the plants will seep right on through to the outside causing the decoupage to peel away. So you really have to waterproof it inside and out. Do you mean could you just use a plastic pot inside of the terra cotta instead? You could do that. Never had any problems using the oven although it never goes over 175 degrees. I also won't put them in the oven after using the spar varnish. :) Patti

I love your video. I can’t wait to try this. I’ve never done this before. What decoupage do you like best? Does the spar sealer turn yellow? I am looking at doing something with white.
@sbffsbrarbrr3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if you've done this yet but I've been using spar varnish on pots that I painted with chalk paint. Initially the varnish is pretty clear when using a fresh can. And I haven't noticed those first projects turning yellow. However, as the varnish in the can ages, it gets thicker and turns a much darker caramel color. I've used this old varnish over white chalk paint and actually really like the "aged" look, as if the pot has been sitting out for a long time. I've also found that it take 3-4 days to completely dry. Even the new varnish took at least two days to dry completely for me.
