Melissa Fabucci how many layers on coaster? Would it need special mask?
@mfabucci4 жыл бұрын
@@dina-vp1me 2 or 3 coats of Polycrylic. I use the pray can gives a smooth finish look. wait about 15-20 minutes between each coat. I would use a good face mask, yes, and best to spray outdoors.

I enjoy your video and the fun you had at the beginning with music and editing. I would like to make my own mailers out of used packing paper. Do you have a sealer that you would recommend? I do not want to use aersols, so I would prefer something I can brush on, such as the water-based polyacrylic sealer you described. This paper came in Amazon boxes (brown) and I also have some that is from a roll of butcher paper. I also do a lot of dye work, and I use this paper from my brother's Amazon purchases to absorb the dye and help flip my work, as I do an intricate dye that involves layering dyes differently on each side. A lot of explanation...These papers are so beautiful that I hang them out to dry when I am done dying and save the tie-dye paper in all sorts of colors. I would like to make my own mailers with these using some sort of sealer, as the post office requires the brown paper to be taped, or have contact paper, or be sealed.

Oh wow, thanks so much. I can't spray, I live in an apt. and neighbors complain of the smell if I use my homemade cardboard box spray booth outside. I end up using my good old Min Wax polycrylic gloss but I get bad paint brush strokes and I'd like more gloss - any suggestions? I need a paint on with a better gloss - anything? Which one would you suggest for heat resistant coasters, maybe the Minwax Helmsman spar urethane varnish paint on?
@bigbuxdown Жыл бұрын
How many coats of the Minwax Helmsman spar urethane did you put on your outdoor map table? I have a flipdown table on my rv that will be outdoors occasionally (it's on the inside of my rear doors) ...also, I'll cook on this table too, eventhough I won't have hot hot stuff directly on it. Also, you said use poly acrylic instead of polyurethane because polyurethane will eventually yellow ...won't the spar urethane yellow too? Thx in advance. - Mike

I wonder if you could help me with something please? I am putting a napkin on a piece of painted plywood...(only on one corner). Thank you!! Which one would you say would be best for kitchen tiles stove and sink back splashes?
@patioelf2 жыл бұрын
for the tiles I would use an engine top coat spray since they are designed to handle high heat. Give them about a full week to cure b/f using. You would need to get those in an automotive store. Sink back slashes just need to be waterproof so as long as you add enough coats (apron 4 or more if you would like) you should be ok with a polycrylic but I personally love resin, nothing else looks like resin except for glass.

Hi! I just finished my first decoupage on a mailbox. I coated with Gator Hyde by Dixie Belle and was wondering if I should spray the Minwax Helmsman on it too. I’m worried that it’s mostly white and is like to avoid yellowing. Thank you!!

Is the Polycrylic WATERPROOF? I need a sealer for some serving trays I'm working on.
@AskingSpot3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I believe after it completely dries the poly part makes it water resistant. Not sure I would trust soaking a piece in water but for a tray you should be fine. I have 4 coats on a kitchen table and it cleans up wonderfully!

Very informative. Thank you for sharing. I have a problem with top coatings for decoupage (done with Mod Podge) being sticky, even years after application. For example I made stacking trays and coated them with polycrylic, and can’t stack them because they will stick to each other. Can you recommend a coating or wax that could be applied over polycrylic? Or perhaps another combination of mediums for decopauging and topcoat, or other solution for stickyness? Thanks so much in advance for your help. 😊
@patioelf6 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeanne, I know a lot of people like Mod Podge but it's for that exact reason that you mention I do not like it at all. It's too thick, sticky and when it's hot or humid it can get gooey, and if you have something like polycrylic over it, that gets sticky as you've found out too. For napkins I use Viva Decor Napkin decoupage glue which I can find with free shipping on Amazon sometimes, but not always, in the craft stores I think it's easier to find Collage Pauge which is a very good decoupage glue for all other papers. Both of these are thinning, dry quickly and you don't get any of that stickiness. So you can add a top coat like poly, and you're fine. I used MP when I first started out but once I tried other decoupage glues I found that they were superior. MP can be used for other crafts but it's almost like a craft glue! I hope I was able to help you out some. Thanks for stopping by! Patti
