This is your best video yet, Pat! GA was another 80s arcade obsession of mine that you can add to the others I've mentioned under your other videos. The Christmas morn that I got my copy of GA for the Genesis made for an awesome Christmas vacation. Another port worth mentioning is actually the Wii VC release of the arcade game. It's output is 240p so using component cables w/ a CRT TV makes for nice, natural scanlines and super crisp pixels. The only thing I'm missing is a cable to plug my X-Arcade stick into my Wii for the full arcade experience. ...more thoughts coming after these messages.

Yes. They probably mistakenly thought "Battle Axe" and "Broad Axe" were synonymous in English for the type of axe the dwarf uses. However, broad axes look completely different and are only intended for cutting wood. Would have been an all-around bad title.

Julie Charlton , daughter, what are dem dar kanji? Broad Axe or ...Battle Axe? This guy is the Bob Ross of video game analysis, video compilation and editing artist wizard... Golden Axe is the game that you'd play no matter what. 4 player mode at the arcade was a seriously hilarious riot. One kid would have to leave and their player would be immobile and the other three players couldn't leave the area until either someone moved the abandoned player or they died a morbid death and then leave the area. This left you open to attacks on your own character so the rest of the party would defend your player if you were playing both.. I never saw the severed head version. That is intense. Watch this with friends and fam. He uses some old timey lingo ya just don't hear that often outside the barbershop. Farm OUT, MAN! Great game!

I played the Genesis version growing up along with the sequel. Very fun games. The second arcade title is amazing and may be the best of its genre. Sega dropped the ball in not porting it to the Sega CD or Sega Saturn. Even what should have been the definitive home port of the original on the Sega CD was neutered without any visual enchantment and no 2P option. Such strange decision making.

This was a fun game to play and each character had a different style of wielding their weapon. If you had enough time in between fighting, you could see the special movements they would make with their weapons. The charging move was the best move against larger enemies.

You forgot to mention that a special attack (a spinning blade attack for the male and female, a rolling attack for the dwarf) can be initiated by pressing 2 buttons together. It does more damage than normal attack. Usually one would attack 2 times, bash 2 times, and then do a special attack to deal maximum damage.

lol. I still have that reaction in general. I'm technically a bit on the young side to have had 8 bit home computers, but I ended up with an 800XL around 1990 (two of them in fact - mostly due to the games. Ended up with about 400 tapes from what I remember) I saw my friend's Amiga and c64 every so often, but that's about it. Not until much later I saw any spectrum stuff... And it's really a WTF moment every time when you see it after the fact. XD That's in spite of the fact that I used that atari with a monochrome green monitor, because someone had convinced me in Europe they didn't work with televisions. I've since learnt that's completely incorrect and I could've hooked them up to the television that sat on the end of the same desk that I used my SNES with, but... Oh well. XD

I just subscribed, i had this Nostalgia of Golden Axe, what i can say is this: Awsome Video! The only part i might a bit disagree, is that the best version, was on MS-DOS not Genesis, it was more geniune there, the sound the graphics, and gameplay, everything was consistent! Just the ending didnt have the explosion of the arcade's cabinet, but it had the music, and a script! Not that the Genesis version was bad, but if you actually started playing it on a Pentium 286, (back in 1991 or 92)on MS DOS, and then you played it on Genesis, huge difference! MS-DOS by far!!! It felt magical!

It does sound suspiciously like the wilhelm scream though. That's a scream from a common film sound library that everyone uses, so nobody really 'owns' it. - if that's really what it is then of course they got away with it, because sound libraries are legal to use for anyone that owns the library. (case in point, see how many games and movies you can find that have the Doom 'open door' effect in them - it's a LOT.) The wilhelm scream is a bit of an in joke in cinema too. A very large number of films contrive a way to shoehorn that exact scream into a film somewhere...

Playing as Centauress arcade was my fav. I think that was for golden axe 2? I loved played this arcade so much and wasted so many quarters. Wanted this so badly on console back in the day just play Centauress, even if she felt the centauress was kinda weak. But she was cool imo. (Mare Centaur). Hah missed this arcade game. Did any consoles/port ever have Centauress as playable charter? Miss this game. I don’t think they ever did. Was on only arcade? There is not enough good centaur games imo. Maybe one day, somebody will make RPG/Good story/Adventure where choose from stallion/mare centaur as main charter. (Witcher 3/skyrim like/mass effect like) Thanks for videos. Brings me back :)

Probably one of the best games ever on Amiga 500. Excelling on all areas basically: nice graphics, snappy gameplay and legendary music. The go-to game to play with a buddy, played soooo many times. Kicking those elves, throwing enemies off the cliff and the general outrageousness made it stand apart imo. Also it was fun to have a surprise duel with your co-player during the heat of battle or just deliver a friendly slash to the back at times :D Revenge of the Death Adder is like the pure perfection developed from the original, I wish there would be a decent modernization or a 2D sidescrolling sequel. It delivers a different experience compared to 3D stuff, I think. There are WOW and Diablos etc on 3D area.
