It took me a while to get the controls usable for mame; I had built my own arcade stick based on a classic 8 button configuration and ended up using buttons for accelerate and brake. it took a lot of trial and error to the the joystick sensitivity correct. It paid off though, I was able to get far enough to change into the boat. I was so pleased with myself but not as pleased as I was the one time I killed a Sinistar. I'm tempted to buy a flight yoke just to get a more arcade like experience.

Never even heard about the Disc of Tron? Only played the Tron in Arcades! Like everyone else we played it for the bike game! Our theater was one of the lucky ones that bought the cabinet along with the movie premier! However, i was 8 years old so i couldn't enjoy the game until after Tron left theaters as it had a line to play this game! i even used a marker & put a "T" on my quarter to save for the Tron Arcade! Being 8 saving a quarter is harder than you think but it survived & i put it into the machine! Worth the wait!

Best 1st level game ever! i've never beaten the 2nd level. i just play it for the 1st level. Hit reset & repeat! i played it on the NES growing up & never noticed the green burgers until i heard you talk about it! Ha-Ha!! This game use to gross out moms everywhere as you walked across the food to then be served the Peter Pepper way!

I'm really hoping a deal can be reached to allow Popeye to be released on the Switch like the Donkey Kong games were. Those wrte significant since Hamster had to work with both Nintendo and Ikegami Tsushinki for it to happen, so they aren't above spending a little extra. Unfortunately, with Brutus being in the arcade game, and him only being around since 1960, that complicates things. If it had been Bluto, it would have been easier, since Bluto ges public domain in 2028, since he was created in 1932. Popeye goes public domain next year, and Olive Oyl went public domain almost 10 years ago, maybe more recently than that.

i love this game more than Dig Dug. Never was any good at Dig Dug, but i am very good at Mr. Do! i always thought he was a happy little wizard throwing a tiny little crystal ball. Ha-Ha! That is until i got my Game Boy version & you can clearly see he is a clown. i play both my SNES & GB Version all the time. Thanks for the Documentary Na-Na-Na Patman!

I played one of the later xevious at someone’s home in the early 90s in Germany on some kind of home computer. I remember the game to be very close to the pc engine version you showed. I was always looking for the game to play it again, because it was amazing at the time. I found out about xevious but it wasn’t the version I played. This video is the first time I saw the game again since 30 years. Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for this. Not only is it a fascinating look into a really underrated arcade classic, but your footage of the game has been very helpful in assembling sprites of the monsters for an app that uses pixel art characters. I’m only able to find sprites that are separated into the torso and limbs, and the head and one arm. It’s difficult to determine how the sprites are assembled without references, and most gameplay footage on here only features George.

MK3 for the SNES was the first Mortal Kombat game I ever owned, played that a ton blind. Never knowing how to do fatalities because of not having internet at the time. Eventually getting UMK3, my brother and I spent a ton of time figuring out every Brutality button by button. They always start with Y, and every Brutality is a combination of 11 buttons. Got Mortal Kombat Trilogy years later for the PS1. Trilogy has a tougher expectation with Brutalities. You have to be consistent with the button pressing, and unerring at the speed. UMK3 is a little forgiving about Brutalities, Trilogy not so much.

I knew it as Top Gunner back in the day and loved it! It was hard and the controls were challenging to say the least, but with enough practice, you would adapt and be rewarded with some really satisfying game play. The NES port was indeed fantastic, and I was amazed at the time by how good it was. I still enjoying firing up the original arcade version on my emulator to this day.
