The best video to understand the lyrics is the translation made by EducatedMarine. This song got its name because the Dalai Lama was afraid of flying. About the lyrics: there is a child with his dad on the plane. The plane enters turbulence, everyone despairs and the child thinks that it is the "lords of the sky" who want to take their souls. The plot twist happens when the father hugs the child so tightly that he ends up killing his own son, making his soul one of the "children of heaven".

One of my favorite Rammstein songs!! It's based on the famous poem of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, "der Erlkönig" you should have watched the fan made video with the translation of educated marine! It's fantastic and REALLY creepy!

In Goethe's poem, a ghostly apparition, the King of the Elves, whispers seductively to the child and seeks to abduct him into his realm. At the end of the ballad, the son dies in the arms of his father on horseback. In the song "Dalai Lama" the"King of the Winds" aims to claim the boy,who finally dies in his father's arms, held too tightly in anticipation of an airplane crash.
