Whatever people may think of Khomeini there is no comparison between him and the Shah of Iran. The Shah and his family were corrupt, his cronies were corrupt, they ruled a very conservative country whilst being ultra liberal, there was all kinds of tales of their degeneracy. Additionally they tortured people and he was an authoritarian ruler, whose country was starving, the disparity between rich and poor was massive.
