I think all MPs should have to live for 6/12 months on the State Pension or minimum wage without any extra help and see what it is really like - how do they afford Christmas/birthday presents, holidays after paying rent/mortgage, bills food, travel to work and maybe they may have a better understanding of how difficult it is for many people.

It is the same for many in the Corporate world too. My husband's company's policy was politely decline any offers of tickets/gifts etc from clients - it was a big No No and not worth risking your job over. It was also frowned upon to drink over lunchtime, people stopped drinking when at work years ago and yet the houses of Parliament have bars in them. Time the bars and subsidised restaurants in the House were closed. We all pay for our lunch at work (or take a pack up) MPs can too. If tax payers can't give to the elderly then we need to stop the MPs perks.
