I recall Larry Hagman in an interview many years ago commenting that there was no way the real Southfork Ranch house could have a second floor bedroom hallway as spacious as what was seen in the TV series.

That's true, I'm streaming the original series these days and the second floor hallway on the show is T shaped with what looks like an awful lot of large en suite rooms .. 😀

@@redletter2008 Interesting to know. Streaming the show all together I noticed the interior set change, more so than the original audience would have over the many years on TV. Because the staircase is straight inside the front door on the ground floor, and wraps around 180, the upstairs layout makes no sense. And correct, I noticed the main living room expanded and had another door way added to link it to another part of the house which nobody seems to use. :)

Something I never figured in the later episodes of Dallas: It seems that many times the entry into the house was through a sliding glass door. It was like the place was lacking a front-door with a entryway into the house.

I never understood why nobody came and went thru the front door nor why they never filmed at the front door of the real house. Perhaps they could only film in certain areas as the house was occupied, though not by the Ewing's. For the early part of the season they could film outside the real Southfork and towards the end of the season but the exteriors in middle of a season were often built on Stage 23 at Sony studios (originally MGM) and it never was well lit as few exteriors filmed on soundstages rarely are then there's the often giveaway of the echo in sound that could only come from indoors. They also had access to Stage 5, if needed. Other Dallas sets were constructed further along this soundstage as we only see a third of its size.

You are so right. Even the tile in the pool was different. One thing about my Texas that is true, the wind blows all the time, so when the flowers were blowing, you knew it was Texas!

In case many wonder I researched the real interior of the Dallas scenes. There are articles online that will direct your attention to a mansion in Dallas on 4800 Park Lane. That is where some of the real interior scenes of the show were filmed, then the MGM lot in Los Angeles decided to replicate those interiors on a stage.

Actually the soundstage house is not an exact duplicate of the real house in Dallas. The exterior is pretty much the same, the patio area where the Ewings had breakfast, and the pool area. But the interior is totally different. I was kind of bummed knowing that for the first time. There are several videos on KZbin showing the tour.

That’s because the house after the 1st five episodes was not the original house. The 1st five episodes were filmed at the original South Fork Ranch in Frisco TX. I’m guessing that since the show had already aired those episodes that it would have been award to change the interior of the setting to match the new home where Dallas was being filmed. I’m unsure if the interior was the same as the original house in Frisco, which it may have been an exact copy of that house but I’m not sure.

I love how I can generally tell which season of Dallas it is based solely on Patrick's hair. When he had more of a fro, I know it was earlier on in the series. When it was more close cut, I know it was toward the end of the series. When his fro was slightly smaller than usual (like it is here), I can tell it was somewhere around the middle or toward the start of the end of the series. So, probably around Season 10 this was shot, maybe?
