I haven't watched enough 49er games to say one way or the other, but Mahomes is definitely more of a game manager this year, especially since the Raiders game. They got to the SB leaning on the defense and not turning the ball over like they had been most of the season. Mahomes is just doing what is required of him. That said, he can turn it up a notch and become the dynamic player we're used to whenever he wants. They started out the Ravens game that way then took the foot off the gas and went conservative when they were up by 10.

The issue I have with the dame manager title is as follows. For me game manager tag has not been associated with just managing the game. It has been more so associated with managing not to lose the game because your ability is not going to win the game. The difference being that if a quarterback has the ability to lead you down the field he is both a game manager and a play maker. Whereas just the game manager you hope doesn't F things up while he tries to manage the game as he will not be able to get you back in it.

Exactly. The Cheifs are more like the 2019 49ers with a great defense where Mahomes makes the smart necessary throws and has a less explosive offense. The 49ers defense is not what it is in 2019 but their offense is highly explosive and can put up points a lot like the 2019 Cheifs where Purdy likes to layer throws 20+ yards. These are actually reflective in the statistics on how they have switched places.

This is a result of making the quarterback position more than what it is. Which is a game manager at its core. What is the quarterback doing on the field? Distributing the ball to the skill positions, calling plays, managing the time of possession etc. sounds a lot like a manager. That’s all it is. Tom Brady has shown that above average athleticism is not needed at the quarterback position. Having a big arm, being able to scramble for 50+ yards is a nice addition but can you deliver the ball accurately and on time to your players? That’s the main thing.

They're inflating the term nowadays so much. Game managers are guys who aren't asked to do a lot and aren't the main force contributing to the team's success, e.g. Trent Dilfer with the Ravens in 2000. System QBs are guys who are winning because they play in a certain offensive scheme rather than their innate abilities, e.g. Jimmy G with the 49ers. Neither of the QBs in this SB is that. Mahomes is the sole reason the Chiefs offense puts up any numbers and Purdy is a very good QB whom you can trust to put the team on his shoulders.
