After being a Rickie fan for years I gave up on him after his famous Holiday trip and turning on the best coach in the game (Butch Harmon) who said ''Ricky need to figure out if he's a Kardashian or a professional golfer'' He's back with Butch now! I was worried he was going to LIV but he made the exempt list after all the LIV guys quit! he got lucky, he better get exempt or he's done!!!

That is an astoundingly tone deaf statement. He was penalized 2 strokes for the infamous lie improvement at the 2019 Hero World Challenge. He ended up losing by 2 strokes. Reed was kicked off The University of Georgia golf team for underage drinking and theft. He went to Augusta State where he was accused of shaving strokes and his teammates wanted him off the team. He was given a two-match suspension instead. During some Ryder Cup matches some players asked not to be paired with Reed. I think Speith is the most obvious one as they were quite successful together. Being sanctioned by a teammate is actually kinda worse.

The shit thing about Reed's cheating is that many people watching him are fans. They'll watch him 'bend the rules', and later in their and your own club competition, some guys will 'definitely see their ball' for a drop, or 'yeah it crossed the hazard line here' for a drop ... Basically, Patrick Cheater Reed will end up in no small way degrading the quality of your own club competition golf, and if you abide by the rules, it will be to your detriment. Which in my opinion, totally sucks.

He was kicked of his college team for cheating. And not many people like him. A lot say he is arrogant and selfish. I and looking at all the other balls in the tree, I am stunned that he could claim he had ID it. He claims he could tell by the marking on the ball that he makes, If I was the rules official, I would ask to see another of his balls to see if it did have the same marking. I am not sure if another marshal stated he saw the ball go into another tree. But the video from Sky shows Reed was at the wrong tree. Cheers

Just some feedback. You said that when Reid arrived he was told by the Marshall that it had hit the tree and not come down. Later you say that Reid confirmed that he had seen which tree it hit and that he had identified the wrong tree. So, surely the Marshall who told him it had not come down would have identified which tree it hit. If I were in Reids position I too would have taken the binoculars and started looking for my ball, which would be the make and number (appreciating that there are also markings, something Reid would know too). As such, clarity is required regarding whether the tree was 100% identified by Reid or the Marshall and, playing devil's advocate, when he identified his ball, which he 'could have done' by coincidence of make and number, if he was looking at the wrong tree why did the Marshall not say so?

Let's not make any excuses for Reed here, he claimed it was his ball, it is impossible for it to be his ball and he knew it, he's an outright cheat and he's been caught out again. He makes a mockery of the rules of this sport where integrity is paramount but Reed couldn't care less, officials need to grow a pair and make an example of him with an immediate ban for at least the rest of the season maybe next season as well.

I'll just say this. Anyone that hasn't been caught cheating isn't necessarily innocent. They simply haven't been caught. With all the cameras, other players, and officials it's rather hard to really cheat during the game itself. Once is a mistake but multiple sketchy at best issues surrounding Patrick Reed. You are correct...if he cannot 100% identify it was his ball (or if his playing partner can't either) then he MUST go back and play 3 off the tee. To look up and claim...yes that is my ball, then tv cleary shows it in another tree....action by the Tour needs to be taken.

Reed obviously “wanted” it to be his ball and may have seen a mark that is similar to what he uses and therefore said that he could identify that it was his. Obviously he was wrong. It’s very hard to identify your ball unless you clearly see all of the marking that you have placed on the ball or else can lift it and confirm it. It’s a poor rule in that you cannot identify a ball that is 20 feet up in a tree but you are almost certain from what you have been told that the ball is up a tree. Yes it could have bounced down and nobody saw it but in this case it should be accepted that everyone is 90% certain that the ball is up a tree. However, the rules state that he needed to be certain and he knows that. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt but it does look very suspicious. He has previous form which doesn’t help.

My understanding is that Reed described his ball markings to the official and then the official identified the ball in the tree as Reed’s using the binoculars. If Reed never touched the binoculars, then that must have been his ball. His playing partner would have seen Reed’s ball at the beginning of the round and could confirm its markings. I haven’t seen the video of the event so I’m not sure about the entire context of what occurred.

LIV players are competing well and looking fresh when they hit the main tours. Even Poulter was playing better than I've seen from him for years. There was a concern that the non-competitive nature of LIV would see players flop when they competed on the main tours, but the reverse is happening.

What are the officials there for anyway. If they can’t say what tree it is in, or it is stuck in that particular tree, then re-hit or drop! At the time of the incident, Reed took the word of an official and/or bystander as to which tree his ball went into. Reed may have seen a marking on a ball in the tree that looked like his own, and the official agreed that he could drop his ball at that location. Had he properly identify his ball in the other tree, the outcome would have been the same. To me it is the same as when a ball slices into a penalty area and the player has to make a judgement call as to where the ball crossed the penalty area. His ball was definitely in a tree, he took the penalty and played. No big deal.

So he didn't properly identify his ball. (Had he properly identified his ball in the other tree?????) Unless you are 100% sure it is your ball you declare it lost. That is down to him. He didn't know where the ball was, couldn't absolutely identify it because it has been shown it was in a different tree. Take your medicine and the penalty. Or cheat. I think Reed saw a ball with a mark on it (not sure if he would be able to read the number with binoculars) then claimed it as his. At that point the rules official couldn’t dispute it. Reed should have to declare to his playing partners any identification marks before he starts looking for it up a tree.

I also watched the final round. Rory was clearly rattled by Reed. I believe Reed was deliberately playing slow just to annoy Rory. But here is what I noticed. The intensity Rory was showing was far greater than even the final round of last years Open Championship or the Tour Championship. Winning was not his drive here. It was just making sure that a LIV golfer did not win, especially Patrick Reed. I still think the previous weeks final round in Abu Dahbi was even more entertaining.

If there is no process for a TV review at the time, as we see in cricket, it relies on the honesty and integrity of the player to make the call. If there was any doubt then the ball should have been declared lost and Reed taken the penalty and re-teed. Looking at the tree itself and how many balls were in it there is no way in my mind that Reed could have positively identified his ball. The rules official could definitely have stepped in here and not just taken Reed on his word and ruled the ball lost. Golf is a game of integrity, and Reed has just shown us he has little. I don’t think the Tour can impose any penalty in retrospect, as it will only pour petrol on already flaming inferno, but i don’t think Reed should be allowed back at any events. He was only there for OWGR points as him and his LIV mates don’t get any. Go back to Greg and the Saudi’s Patrick, we don’t want you here.

Player don't have the luxury of overhead video footage, slow-mo, etc. Where do you draw the line between cheating and human error??? They get paid plenty of money to put up with this sort of thing thou. Wouldn't that make golf less fun thou, "Excuse me sir, I noticed you moved your marker back over w/ your putter 2.5 mm from where it was prior. You cheated!" Ha, ha. That’s why you put a unique mark on your ball. You have to be 100% sure that it is your ball (well as sure as you can be when the marking is very uncommon). A ball with the same make and number and colour of number is not enough. The problem is that when the ball is embedded in a palm tree like it was then it is very hard to see any markings. Reed may have seen a red line on the ball which might have been similar to what he uses but he wouldn’t have seen enough of it so he should have admitted that he wasn’t certain.

Reed is a king, the marshall said it hit that tree and he probably did see the same ball with similar markings. Even the same ball with the same number without the markings would have been good enough in this case. Anyway, even if it is another tree he would still have to drop it in similar position so there is no real advantage unless he had to go back, the ball obviously went in a tree close to the one he dropped from.

He would only have been dropping from a similar position if he could actually see his ball in that tree. And since we still don't have a photo of it 2 days later, it presumably isn't visible so he'd have been going back to the tee. There's no way he could be categorically certain the ball he saw was his, and it's blatantly dishonest of him to say he was.

it is a business and he operated in a grey area here. If you go strictly by the rules you are right because he can’t be 100% sure unless they would use a ladder. How do you know for sure that Patrick Reed knows that's not his ball? There's like 8 balls lodged in that tree..... does he know that? Maybe he doesn't know that because he's not viewing the tree from a helicopter like Sky Sports is. Maybe he actually believes its his ball? Crazy right? I'm not a Patrick Reed fan, but all of the accusations of him being this massive golf cheat are so petty imo. This guys reputation is being destroyed for the most petty shit possible. The only one that I saw that I would consider a blatant breaking of the rules, was when he was improving his lie in the sandtrap. I could understand accidentally doing it once, because of the way wedges are cut, it's actually easy to accidentally do this. But to do it twice crosses the line. That was the only one. The time his ball was plugged, it was confirmed plugged, it's not like he saw the ball bounce, and somebody said it didn't bounce. I don't know man, I don't see blatant cheating from the guy. All of the evidence of Reed cheating, comes from fans of golf who have more information about what has occurred than Reed does. It's not like he knows there's 8 balls lodged in the tree. It's not like he saw his ball bounce etc. You all know this because you're watching it on TV.

Reed should be asked what mark on the ball was used to identify it as his, was it his initials, a series of marks, a specific pattern, numbers or colours? He has now stated he is 100% certain it was his ball, or he would have returned to the tee and played his third shot, rather than playing from a drop closer to the hole and still playing his third shot. Someone get a cherry picker, retrieve the ball Reed claims was his, and watch him sweat.
