it is special. to make it more so you should consider etching and /or engraving something to melt a real girl's hart. something only she knows and is just for her. something that will make her girlfriends wish they had a man like that.

I love how your rings look and the process that is done for making them. As someone going to college for machining, I find it very satisfying
@josephd.55247 жыл бұрын
Regarding heating for anodizing these- consider Clickspring's little brass trays full of brass chips; he used one for evenly bluing screws and pieces for a large clock. A ring would be no great leap.

Alpha knife supply ain't the only ones that know how to melt titanium in an oxygen free environment
@norxcontacts7 жыл бұрын
Timascus™ consists of two or more titanium alloys laminated and patterned resembling steel damascus. The various alloys color differently through the use of heat or anodizing. Each type of titanium alloy has the potential for a new color combination.
@perlandstrom50237 жыл бұрын
MilkCap i see. I was gonna say, that doesnt look like damascus :)

Sounds like B.S Why a patent? Surely the forge is the same
@quentinguenter7 жыл бұрын
Robert Pitcher no it isnt, i think it needs to be done without any oxygen coming in touch with it. Otherwise it wouldnt stick together And if you dont do it right there's a Chance of molten Ti spraying all over the place...
@shelterskelter7 жыл бұрын
Titanium is forged in an argon rich forge. No oxygen. When titanium reaches critical temps it explodes......I use titanium picks and when welding golds I need to be careful to not mess around too much in the flames corona. One pedantic point. Titanium can be heat colored or anodized but the processes and effects are different. Anodizing titanium is not super durable and nor will heat coloring be much better. The anodized oxide tends to wear away. Also, pure titanium makes arguably the best color and alloys like aircraft grade dont really. I would hazard a guess and say someone has used some niobium in this timascus. It shows much brighter color and is in the same family as titanium.....
@adr96536 жыл бұрын
I'm totes pedantic about the difference between anodizing and heat coloring too! And a pedantic moment from me; niobium and titanium are often alloyed together and are both reactive metals but they're not in the same family as titanium. Close tho. Ti is group 4 on the at

James Davis he would have to heat anodize them so they could be seen. Good point though.
@Dragonrider6166 жыл бұрын
disturbedphil21 good point, but he would have to heat anodize the cuttings for them to be visible. Imagine that, coupled with gold flakes, glow powder, and some kind of gemstone (garnet, diamond, emerald, etc...).
@SupremeShuckle6 жыл бұрын
The anodizing point would have to be lower than the melting point of the metal, but if he did it right then it would work.

@2:30 Thanks for the tip I noticed in watching your video here. When placing a ring on the lathe to be milled out when it's not a bar but rather a small cut piece like you have here, I'm always fighting to get the wobble out and making it as straight as possible but I just noticed how you use a ring blank inside the jaws (it appears) behind the bar to be milled, I love the idea so while not actually sharing that tip, I really appreciate your showing it atleast for me to catch on to how you can keep a coin chip or ring more straight in the jaws. Thank you!

So I looked up the patent for Timascus, and it's pretty simple, just forge welding with a twist: the titanium is inside a steel enclosure and said enclosure is purged with an inert gas (argon) they then described heating and pressing with a hydraulic press with a force in the range of 5-15 tons. This whole process could be done with relative ease in a reasonably well equipped shop set up for forging steel

Would polishing the outside of the ring get rid of the brushed metal look? I think it would be way cooler if the lamination were sharper, and the brushed metal look makes the colours bleed into eachother a bit.
@Gamergeek17 жыл бұрын
Matt Postle it’s hard to polish this stuff, and it wouldn’t really look that different. Also the brushes look would hide small scratches that happen when you are wearing the ring daily.

It is easier to drill stuff with a drill, centre-drills are designed to just produce a 60 degrees taper for a centre or a point to pilot a drill (the clue is in the name). A HSS drill will not cost you much and it will save you some time.
@sillykanji7 жыл бұрын
FYI, if you're going to drill Titanium, low rpm, steady pressure. Heating can cause fractures. (Aircraft Structural Mechanic) Low rpm and soft, steady pressure reduces binding.

Great job on the ring bud, I thought you had a type-o at first with Timascus but see someone got tricky and changed up the name for their own take off on Damascus. Alpha Knife supply sure does have a really high price tag on the raw bars...wow

Can the anadised finish wear off in time? Might be wrong but isnt it just a layer of crystals that forms on the surface due to the heat applied to the material?
@grendelum7 жыл бұрын
One hint: *Pagani* uses a precise temperature oven to get the specific shade of violet they put on all their titanium parts (exhaust mainly). While Pagani claims the temp and time to be a secret, there are a *_TON_* of charts available for free that show you the specific temp and time needed to get very precise color (titanium anodization color charts). I'll admit baking timascus prolly won't be nearly as fun as hitting it with the blowtorch. Do the timascus makers make other damascus patterns?

Is anodizing the proper term for heat blueing? I thought anodizing was what they did to ar15 receivers but I'm not sure. Clickspring has an excellent video about how to get heat blueing perfect.
