When I started getting sick of Logic drum sounds I just started recording my own sounds with my mic. Just by hitting random objects around my house, and modifying the recorded audio with my assortment of plugins (I'm obsessed with Soundtoys 5 lol), I've managed to come up with some pretty sweet drum sounds. Maybe I should start using Splice though just to have more options.

Same here. Two producers can use the same drum sounds because after mixing, their drums will sound completely different. But every once in awhile I'll check out the melodic samples too because two producers won't flip a sample the same way.

This is a great channel. I look forward to more videos from you and hopefully they come weekly. One thing I highly recommend you do which may seem to contradict your plan for the rest of your videos or KZbin gameplan. And that is to view your channel almost like a Netflix subscription and as much so as a television series or tv show. Your first season to have a couple of introductory episodes which you can map out however u want with the main goal being keeping the attention u have from viewers to keep them coming for the next one. Not with giveaways tho THATS one way. But for each “season” to have a primary story line with a beginning middle and end and without getting too much into your personal life until you’re fan base has increased exponentially from what is is now. TThink of yourself as a director and you’re gonna tell a “story” thru KZbin videos or episodes. Doesn’t have to actually be a fictional story or a playlist of tutorials but ur creativity is the limit to the story you will tell. With this approach it may seem like your music production skills will be taking a back seat, but really its not. People with talent recognize talent. Even those who don’t have the eye to recognize they will be refreshed to see another new “episode” u have to offer. . And this isn’t to just follow the trend this is just what’s working and it works for a reason. This is just a recommendation as I like what you offer and I can see u with a bigger KZbin following and I hope u keep those followers with more coming. I love this channel so far. I hope to see u soon.

I've been using splice for 3 months. I got to say its worth it. I find myself using alot of one shots or loops that I chop up. Their library is always growing too so it feels unlimited. Downside is if you dont change the samples you might hear another producer using it. Other than that its all positive. I wish they lowered the price though like 5$ for 100 credits and 8$ for 200 but the price currently is ok.

dude i fucking love splice. I just started making beats using garageband as a total beginner and within like a week and doing a lot of research on how to make music, things actually sound pretty good. i see a lot of people shitting on splice saying you aren't original if you use it etc. but you don't have to just use like a straight up full sample without changing anything or adding to it..by time everything is combined together it's totally different, or from like a 15 second loop you might only take 3-4 seconds of it that's like 65% of the way thru it changing the whole vibe of things entirely. still very much an art form to comb thru thousands of short sounds and turn them into a song. it's a great way to start for someone with no background using instruments. i just love music, wrote my own stuff to people's beats for like the past 8 years and figured i'd give it a try. turned out to be the most fun i've ever had. it's allowing me to make beats that i love, and it's motivated me to get a midi keyboard, logic pro x, and build up a decent little home studio. i honestly don't have the knowledge yet to make a completely original all me without any help song, and I admit that. splice is so amazing for beginners. and let's be honest, regardless of your ability to play instruments, every instrumental i've ever heard sounds extremely similar to something else and was clearly influenced heavily by another sound....which is why we have extremely distinguishable genres that sound a whole lot alike...by time i'm done piecing together all types of sounds from splice it sounds every bit as original as anything else, and it opens up the creative doors so widely because none of us would ever think of all the great little one offs and melodies on there that we can incorporate into the songs we make.

Splice is awesome. I didn't even know what the hell it was when I bought it. But after learning a little bit about producing and how expensive it is. I've learned to appreciate how much value they bring for $10 a month My only criticism is.the way the downloads are stored. So many files, so when I pull it up on my daw it takes forever to find what I'm looking for. I started moving all my sounds to another folder so it's all neatly stored and ready for me.

I see splice as a great tool that I want to know fully understand what rights do I have to the music I download as a member paying a monthly cost. Is that music mines, to be used however I wish, or will there be any future legal risk and fees to using the sample music? Simply, I was recommended by a friend to use a splice for finding a podcast theme song for my show, purchase the sample, and keep or end my membership whenever? Whether that is right to do or not, can I do that if it isn’t having to pay for a music producer and or going on a site like a freelancer for someone to give the job to? I don’t want a lengthy process and I don’t mean to play a large amount for something I can find myself. What are my options?

the thing is that splice makes it really easy to acess sounds. However most of the times samples and especially drum one shots specifically for trap are often recycled kits from reddit and such. That's the major problem someone like me would have with splice and this isnt nessessarily something that is restrained to only splice (just more present there).

Hi Patrick, Firstly I really want to thank you for all your videos. You've been a huge help in demystifying home studio recording and giving me the confidence to embark on something i've always wanted to do, but had no clue where to start and what to buy. My main question is how to use two or more headphones for home recording if I want to be able to hear the audio at the same time as one or two musicians i'm recording without losing audio quality. I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen and already have one set of AKG240's. I've used audio splitters in the past, but found these compromised the quality of the recording on playback. Would be grateful for any advice you could share in this regard. Thank you again and all the best from London, England. Jonny
