The fact that Schulz doesn’t understand South Park’s humor being a comedian is interesting.
@Gwen334418 сағат бұрын
@Probblems Exactly. South Park is satire. The whole point is to make us uncomfortable with our biases, foibles and flaws. What the comedy brings to our attention helps us to change and grow, personally and societally. Laughing creates the space for a shift to happen. From what I saw of this Andrew guy and his gang, the only point of the "comedy" is to laugh at people. His comedy isn't intelligent. It has no point, no meaning beyond a cheap laugh. That's fine to the point that it's funny and does no harm, but this kind of comic doesn't care who are what they hurt. To my mind, that makes them morons, and makes morons of their audience. What is funny, and where the line is drawn is a fascinating topic, something I'm trying to more deeply understand. Surely, this is different for each of us. Still, it seems, as a simple matter of human dignity, setting markers is worthwhile. For me, comedy that is dumb and uninsightful, that needlesly shames or humiliates, that is more demeaning than funny ... is where my line is drawn. Anyway, excuse the rant.

18:48 I think what’s so ironic about South Park’s Tolkien character is how no one, especially white audiences, seem to understand how clever of a character he truly is. Tolkien isn’t a black stereotype, he’s the antithesis of a black stereotype. The only time stereotypical rhetoric is brought up in relation to Tolkien is when other characters, primarily Cartman, bring it up. Tolkien himself embodies no harmful, or overused black stereotypes. Ironically enough, Tolkien’s parents are well off, well adjusted people who are always extremely pleasant whenever they’re on screen. Tolkien himself is a smart, well mannered kid trying to live his life in a predominantly white community (something I can relate to a great deal). The only time the show humors the idea of Tolkien embodying a black stereotype is when he learns that he can play bass after Cartman says: “Tolkien, you’re black, you can play bass.” Shultz lacks the ability to see Tolkien for what he is. All he knows is that his name is a pun, and that’s enough for him.

But all the other kids interpreted it as “TOKEN” and then felt bad about it later, came clean or something. Incorporating race as it exists in our world versus using race and harmful stereotypes as the butt end of the joke, are two different things. Race exists, and all of the nuances that come with it. Here’s a few things coming from a black man. 1. Yes, I 100% agree that anything goes in comedy. Whether it’s light hearted or morbid. 2. I also believe that if you make a joke that’s probably too far.. it better be funny & worth it. (Dave is literally the poster child for that in this generation) 3. I like the fact that Kendrick shot a nameless bullet, and Andrew decided to jump in front of it. Because coming from a person who watches all styles of comedy & comedians. I could’ve named 20 white comedians that the bar could’ve been about. 4. Andrew made some solid points about rappers being hypocrites, especially when it comes to there depiction of women. The problem is …… Kendrick isn’t really that kind of rapper (at least not consistently). That comeback would’ve been more in line with a Meek Mill, Future, 21 etc… 5. Andrew is literally derailing himself at the moment. Mainly because he keeps going at it with someone who isn’t “currently” talking about him. 6. Also you can cut the crap about death threats and that being so prevalent. He’s a comedian who goes out of his way to insult everyone. I’m positive he’s received many fake death threats…… 6.5 I wonder why he’s taking Kendrick audience/fans personally??? 7. I hate when people start getting desperate & start lying. So Andrew didn’t know about the #1 stereotype black women get?!? A stereotype even prevalent in cartoons & family sitcoms. Whether ICarly, Hannah Montana, Victorious, Drake & Josh, etc… 8. Again I’m all for jokes whether inappropriate or not. They just better be funny. 9. Also ….. if you’re gonna consistently have something inappropriate to say; whether said thing is funny or not. Be prepared for any & all backlash. 10. Lastly…. I’m a Black man who loves Tropic Thunder. Ish was funny. I also recognize that it came out at the right time. Same with other movies like white chicks. Marlon Wayne said the reason why they weren’t cancelled doing that movie is because as long as the people you’re making fun of laugh you’re good. Bonus: So Andrew is mad that jokes that he made about a fan base he doesn’t have put a negative spotlight on him. A spotlight that he himself grabbed and placed on him. Again… I could’ve names 20 more comedians 10 in which are fairly popular that Dots bar could’ve been about. Did we not see what happened to dababy?😂

If a black comedian said the exact same thing about white women (or said ANYTHING about white women, which has happened literally hundreds of times throughout history) then nobody would have a problem with it, whether the joke was funny or not. That's the whole point. Kendrick (and you, and everyone else taking his side) seeing pretty much every black comedian ever tell "white people jokes" for half their standup routines and say nothing, then get triggered about a random comment in a podcast, is hypocritical. And entitled. And fragile. People can tell jokes about any race they want. Including yours. And you seem to be fine with it the other way around. So all that stuff you said doesn't erase the fact that you have a racial double standard for comedy. And probably everything else.

@ thank you for your opinion. Nice character breakdown. I also like the fact that you glossed over a couple points I made about knowing your audience, being reactionary, and him having valid points… but his reactionary points being placed at the wrong person. As a poor wht person you can walk around any area... enter any business talk to anyone... be hired anywhere etc a blk person not so much... cops will be called if your in a non blk area... u will get followed in stores etc..denined loans. @@BIGFOOT-ENT. Nothing is off limits I agree but successful racial jokes are either cathartic, or clever, or insightful, or light-hearted. Andrew has made some good racial jokes in the past that had these qualities like around the time he first blew up on youtube posting short standup clips. The issue is, over time he has begun to say more and more straight up disrespectful shxt and pass it off as a joke. It's not. He regularly just parrots a bunch of lazy, low-effort, stereotypes and HOW he says it matters. There are many times when these "jokes" are made with a condescending tone and even disdain in his tone. Any regular person who is not one of his glazers can immediately tell the difference. I love comedy, if you do too you should hold comedians to a higher standard than this and stop giving them a pass and coming to their defense with the "nothing is off limits" argument because if you're gonna go there, the shxt should be funny. Here's an example for you. The joke he made about Sikh men and their bracelets - that's a clever and funny racial joke. It started off as a history lesson, he seemed to be admiring how Sikh men used to have a warrior identity, and then he cleverly weaved that into a stereotype racial joke. The "jokes" he made about black women - condescending, unfunny, not clever, lazy, parroting stereotypes, with a really weird energy to his delivery. He's just straight up saying disrespectful shxt and that's all.

And when black men are bringing up that white men are somehow better when they date black women...that's insulting to white people, but no one cares. You're implying white men are inferior versions of themselves until they meet a black woman, it insults both white men and women, because apparently white men need improving and white women aren't worth improving themselves for, that's what that says in a roundabout way. So he made a joke bringing that back to neutral, but apparently not letting blacks get jabs in on your race without one back.. is racist. Shocker If a white guy started talking about black people improving themselves because they're getting with white women, everyone would lose their sht. But the other way around and you don't even think of it as insulting because it's a white person taking the jab and not giving it.

19:21 ummmmmm does Andrew NOT watch SP even as a kid? Most of the time the main message of the episode steps above race, gender, etc and makes fun of the nuances of our F-ed up society. Also there’s a wonderful moment in a newer season clarifying Token was actually Tolkien 😂 Andrew literally makes himself the butt of the joke yet again by bringing up Token’s name out of context
