Part 2 of a walk a long the River Porter, in this video we follow the river on a subterranean journey through culverts that take the river under the streets and buildings of Sheffield. Eventually the River Porter meets the River Sheaf under Platform 5 of Sheffield's Midland Railway station.

Wow ! Absolutely fantastic Patrick, Really enjoyed this one. Little different to the kind of exploring I do myself. I take my hat off to you sir! I recently had to wade through a four foot high tunnel myself so I appreciate the strain on the back and thighs! ( Especially the next day 🙈 ) And I am a few years younger than yourself. You are an absolute legend sir 💪👍 A true Yorkshire gentleman. Thank you

Lovely to see all the old structures dating back 100s of years, and get a sense of how the city used to be before it was developed, all the old mills etc that relied on the water to operate. All the rivers seem clean too, where's all the litter and flytipping. As for walking through Sheffield with your waders on it's great to get people thinking without them understanding what you've been doing, something they probably wouldn't understand. 😁

Stunning! It's really interesting to see how the construction methods have changed. It's a testament to the early Victorian engineers that the brick sections are still standing, whereas part of a later concrete section collapsed.

Danielle Britton Hi Danielle hi again, this was my first introduction to culverts and I was amazed at how attractive the brickwork was and admiration to the Victorian builders. I planned my date for the explore then it collapsed, waited a few month for them to repair it but nothing happened so went ahead anyway. It's still like it now in Oct, don,t think the original builder would be impressed. Thanks Danielle for your comments, Pat

Wayne Nunn Hi Wayne really nice to hear from you, I wandered pass these culverts for years then plucked up courage to venture in, a bit further each time, many are mid Victorian, eventually ventured down Megatron amazing who would of thought that was under the city of Sheffield. Started out mainly wild camping but like to vary my adventures, can,t walk past a drain outlet now without wondering what's up there?. We are all well, enjoying my retirement as you can see, both boys still at home, Joseph in last year at Sheffield Uni and Dan at College, hopefully new vidio each month certainly keeps me occupied, all the best Pat

Hello Patrick, Wow this brings back memories, river Porter. At 10.50 the wall to the left was the back of Hoffman’s garage. I started work aged 15 yrs Jan 1963, there was an area of space behind the garage triangular shaped Mechanics use to sit out at break times and to pass the time on brought air rifles to work. Empty cans where taped up and thrown upstream plan was to sink them before they went under the culvert. They became very good shots at moving targets. Looking upstream to Summerfield street you could see James Neil’s (I think) an imposing building all brick. One day an older chap brought a 2.2 rifle and fired it at Neils wall all we saw was a puff of brickwork, crazy times. I have seen the Porter just a trickle and also a raging torrent. Also remember walking past S&E arcade is the morning to work. Then the errands 22 iced sally lunns 14 buttered, 9 Hot pies, not my happiest task! All around this area seemed to have character or is it me looking through rose tinted specs. Love the Peak District, Derbyshire. Now in Hampshire for the last 2 years, do I miss the North, let you guess that one. Great expeditions and commentaries, thanks Patrick. Best Graham

Hi Graham yes I was born at Nethergreen in 1955 so new the area round the Porter well, although probably did,nt venture down to Pomona area until we had discovered pubs. Those lads with the air rifles would definitely be on there mobile phone's now, those simple times seemed to have gone. Great times we had and I,am glad I still live in the area, the pubs up Ecclesall Road are still one of my favourite haunts, great to talk to you, all the best Pat

I've been waiting for this, and you certainly didn't disappoint. Local history as told by a local...just how it should be, honest down to earth and interesting. Cracking photo's once again, love that light painting. The irony isn't wasted on me....the 1800 brickwork is still there like it was built yesterday...and the stuff we did in (the 1960's probably) has collapsed. Says it all.... Brilliant mate, enjoyed it very much.

Hi Paul, yes the photos worked out well like most things I had to take several to get the perfect shot I was after. The collapsed culvert, modern section is in a very poor state, looks like they are going to replace that whole section as all uncovered in Decathlon car park, they must of known its condition. anyway I think the Victorian construction will be here for many years, thanks for comments Pat

Great video Patrick, very interesting. I like all the different styles of brick and stone work in the culverts, and the variety of arches, contrasted with the modern concrete boxed section. I'd love to have a go at doing something like that.

Hi Chris the brickwork is amazing really shows the skill of the Victorian builders, a work of art. The concrete box sections are a bit boring and have proven they don,t last too long and are coming to the end of there life, thanks for comments and watching Pat

Hi Rob, although i lived in the area all my life I did not know the course of the river until I researched it. When it comes into a open section in Staples car [park it just looks like a few trees, its not until you look close that you realize theirs a river down there, I ,ve learnt a lot in last couple of weeks about the river. Love what you're doing and as a KZbin film maker myself ( Different channel to the one I'm using to comment on this) I can see some of the efforts you're making production wise as a one man band. I think you're doing a superb job and I will almost certainly be following in your footsteps with my lads at some point. Don't worry, you've not got competition, we make cliff jumping vids.

You either have a film crew that we never see or you must walk at least 3 times the distance of every explore just to constantly move the cameras :) That means you climb every barbed wire topped wall and wade every thigh deep pool that we see you navigate at least twice!, no wonder your back aches after an explore! For what it's worth I really appreciate the level of effort you take. It looks really professional and it's a real change from all the selfie stick presenters :) Keep up the awesome work.

Hi Patrick. I can`t figure out if your bonkers or brave. lol.. The story of you going waste deep in the water reminded me of the vicar of Dibley sketch, where dawn french jumped in that `puddle ` of water... And the vision of you with your feet up, letting water out of your waders sounds like a `last of the summer wine ` sketch. BRILLIANT.!!!. Love your videos mate. thanks for the education.
