Not surprising. Masvidal's a massive mark - can't differentiate between what's real and what's a work. Even with Askren, Ben was building hype for what he thought would be a championship run and Masvidal somehow even took that shit to heart, genuinely disliking him to this very day.

Colbys response to the kid saying he should show that side of him more is so sad because that's what he originally wanted to do. My man ruined so many connections just so he can sit next to these guys at the top, and if you told anyone else you can sit at the top but you will lose all of your friends within the sport I don't think many other people would take that sacrifice.

Because bro that’s been proven to be 100% false he said they told him they were going to cut him because he was basically boring or whatever which I mean already sounded completely ridiculous you don’t cut top 5 contenders ON A WINNING STREAK LOL it just didn’t add up then come to find out he actually started the shtick in the fight or two before that one which made me think it cousin be true that they threatened to cut him but not because he was boring instead because he had just said alllll that shit and Brazilians seem to get butthurt when you go on them or their country lol and Colby wasn’t selling he was nowhere near a big draw even after doing all that talking cause we all knew it was just an act so I’m thinking they’re looking at it like dude we have to have security for him when the fights are at certain places, he started problems with almost everyone on the roster, etc, etc…so I feel like it’s the complete opposite reason as to what he’s saying unless it’s just a 100% fabrication which is entirely possibly lol

Yeah. Colby let his character cross over into his actual life and ruined a good friendship just for the sake of being controversial. Masvidal did a whole lot for him at the beginning of his career. Hell we seen it in this video when he told Jorge “I wouldn’t be here without you.” Which is why it’s really ironic hearing him tell Masvidal that he only cares about himself, and it really doesn’t make sense.

Imagine being in Colby's shoes before all the controversy. Following your dreams, putting everything you are into becoming the best you can be, working your way up and winning fights while staying humble. A man of principle that gives credit to those that support him. A man of honor. How is he rewarded? By being told he was being tossed out like yesterday's trash. It's no wonder that he decided to flip the script and make a 180-degree turn-around. He has made brilliant use of the science of triggering people and it is one of the saddest examples of the human condition that I have seen in modern sports. But think about it and take the science to a broader perspective. If this strategy works in this example, where else is it being used to exploit social perception? EVERYWHERE! Social media, main-stream media...politics! Everywhere you look you can see examples of The Complex Science of Triggering People being used to manipulate, separate and compartmentalize humanity into pre-arranged groups that are ripe and ready for exploitation. This science has shined a spotlight on the human psyche and exposed us all to being little better than Pavlov's dogs. I hope that Colby's adopted persona is all an act and that he and Masvidal are still good friends. Imagine if they planned the whole rivalry. Now that would be brilliant. Just saying.

It’s an act. All of it except for what happens in the ring. Like we all know, the best way to get ‘clicks’ is to elicit any strong emotion. These fighters want to retire young and live a comfortable lifestyle. If they have kids, they want to be able to provide a lifetime of security for them as well. It’s not about filling seats for a particular fight. It’s about retaining current fans and gaining new ones for the UFC brand. That’s where the money is. Sponsors will fall into place. There are business and PR agents at work, talking behind the scenes and making it entertaining. UFC is a business above all else.

Great video. I think it started as an act, but when you act a certain way long enough, people start to treat you like that character that you're playing. After being treated like the character he was playing for so long, and reacting as that character, I think he's actually started to believe it. When you argue a certain point long enough, whether or not you believed it to start with, you will eventually start to blur that line and become that other character in certain aspects. It's sad to see what happened though, knowing this isn't the route he initially wanted, but wound up being pushed towards. At the end of the day, it was his decision to take it to the extent that he did. Congrats to him on his career, seems like he worked hard for it, but I can't respect his decisions.

Already knowing the context of the entire situation going on between Jorge & Colby is one thing, but the way you put this video together was a thing of beauty. I knew from the beginning what Colby was doing, it’s just like WWE. Him saying the UFC was getting ready to cut him only confirmed my thoughts on him just simply playing the heel role to keep his UFC career alive and become a bigger draw and I can’t knock him for it. Respect

What an incredibly well done video! As someone who has been consuming so much MMA media since becoming a fan in July 2020, I never got this clear of an understanding of the background behind this story. Now the bigger thing for me is watching your "I Quit" video explaining how you want to go on this KZbin Journey, and then watching the Dustin video and this video. That shit inspired me, even seeing you explain Colby's act and the science of triggering people with you applying it in your videos. The videos invoked so much emotion and kept me captivated for every single second. I can't wait to see what other content you make, especially UFC/MMA related.

I just commented the irony that the vid starts with Candace Owens interviewing Covington. She was a racial far Left activist who began "modeling" for an Israeli porn site that "discovered" half of the Fox News female talent then suddenly became a diehard ZioConservative grifting millions from Boomers. The person I feel for the most is Masvidal, he lost so much, lost trust in his judgment, friend, brother, confidence in his ability to see who his true friends are, trust in people, trust in the people he is close with all because Colby wanted to be a star a villain. Colby lost too but Jorge lost the most. I feel sad for Jorge, especially when he first heard his friend talking about him. He had a goal and while I really hate that him and masvidal went out like that which was Colby's fault I can tell Colby is a good dude that did what it took to gain success. What I can see happening with him is he gains the world and realizes it's not worth losing his soul and he repents for things he did because for some reason I feel like Jesus has much bigger plans for him. I also wouldn't be shocked if the relationship with he and masvidal was rekindled through Christ all things are possible and I know Masvidal understand that truth.

For me seeing a gifted fighter like this put on a character and burn every bridge is tragic. He played a role and now that's taken over his legacy. No matter the great fights he wins or anything he does it'll be overshadowed by this act. This is an interesting discussion really. In pro-wrestling the veil has been lifted since mid'90s. Everyone knows that Undertaker is a totally humane aging wrestling legend, Kane is the mayor of his town, Chris Jericho is actually a really cool guy that has helped many wrestlers in the past, Triple H is an honest businessman that likes to work out, Sami Zayn doesn't believe in any conspiracies and is actually quite down to earth, Dutch Mantel was never a racist, AJ styles is one of the nicest and least aggressive people one can meet. The examples are endless. Bottom line. In wrestling, we know kayfabe and we know real life. Maybe the wrestler in real life is similar to what he is portraying on television. Maybe it is 100% acting. We are all in the know and we all accept that. This also messes well with the scripted nature of the fighting. Given that the result is scripted, it is more acceptable and expected that the characters are also part of the script. MMA is different. While it is obvious that many fighters have adoped a somewhat kayfabe personality on screen, the general public still considers that this is what they really are. And even the most cynical MMA fans can at times find it impossible to know whether the fighter is acting and to what extent. Furthermore, the non-scripted nature of the MMA fights (yes, I believe they are legitimately contested and not scripted, let's not get into that here) makes it harder for fans to grasp how fighters can fight for real and pretend during interviews at the same time. This also creates an expectation that the fighters are supposed to live their life in a way that agrees with their style and attitude in interviews. Effectively, this means that the fighter is supposed to "live the gimmick". If he trash talks a lot during interviews, he is expected to post trash-talking stuff in Tic-Toc and be condescending towards journalists or even the mailman. If he is aggressive, he is expected to fume online about something every day. If he is flashing the bling and coming out to rap/trap, he is expected to live as if he is the second coming of 50 cent. Maybe, just maybe this is part of what happened here. The man started to portray a gimmick. It worked. He had to live accordingly so that it kept working and he did that. And maybe it became part of him. Or maybe it didn't and he is a great actor. Or both...

Man I'm not sure if I'm against Colby. All this talk about legacy but we easily forget about the people that have been good their whole life. Look at Will Smith for example. All his time being the good guy and it's one moment of rage that had the whole internet in a meltdown. I think I'll go the Colby direction atp.
