GSP is one of the few fighters to play the UFC system well. He came in, did what he had to to get on top, stayed on top as a huge Canadian draw, broke a record, made millions, got out while he was ahead, and then came back to take another belt at middle weight before he was even out of his prime. He did it his way.

Interesting comments by dana regarding GSP wanting to take a break. I wonder why dana didn't feel the same way about conner's long break and refusal to defend his title. I don't wonder actually, because dana's true feelings, motives, desires, and what truly drives him is so easy and clear to see. It's awesome to see people not afraid of calling it as they see it, and not being afraid of the ufc in doing so. Ufc will do whatever it takes, robbing the real Champs of fights they deserve through hard work in the process, to protect and ride the shirt tails of false paper champs.

Back in the day Dana would pride himself on having the best fighters in the world. Even with an ego as big as his he'd put it aside for what was best for MMA and fought tirelessly to legitimize our sport. Then it happened, maybe around Brock or Chael? Or maybe it was just a gradual shift, or maybe he had outside sources pouring stress on but skill and talent was no longer viewed as important as charisma and drawing power. He went from being the hero of MMA to a Vince McMahon-esque promoter. Equal parts sleaze, ego and shady business tactics pushing our beloved MMA closer to pro wrestling or boxing shenanigans.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't his video BEFORE the main fight between Tony and Justin? Plus he will apparently have an induction ceremony later this year after the pandemic has calmed down.

@jharriger28164 жыл бұрын
@@blazinchalice This is pretty much true. (Although people do care more about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, mostly because it's an actual place) UFC HoF is just a list and promotion. It's pretty obvious and lame when they made a big deal about Royce and Ken being the first inductees, throw in one of the Tapout guys as a memorial, forgettables like Serra and Miletich in there, and clearly inferior favorites like Liddell and Griffin in years before an absolute legend like Sakuraba is recognized. Until a group of journalists and industry guys can get financial backing to start a Hall of Fame independent of particular promotions and have actual criteria and analysis as part of the process, there is no real MMA Hall worth talking about.

It's so unprofessional of White to comment on the fighters the way he does. He's got too much control.

Like he cares. This isn't a fashion show. They act stupid they get told how it is.

To this day, I found Werdum feeding Dana a piece of humble pie to be quite satisfying.

What about Stipe. Dana was reluctant to give him a chance, and was super depressed when Ngannou didn't beat Stipe
@csilla30854 жыл бұрын
coz he can't speak coherent english lol.jk but in all fairness, Stipe is not much of a media person, even tho I think he's funny, he's not the best speaker. I can't really see him going to shows, interviews, etc. And that's really what UFC wants, other than having good PPV numbers and popularity.
@stoneman4724 жыл бұрын
@@csilla3085 yeah but the fact that Dana can't figure out how to milk the fact that he's a fucking fire fighter just proves Dana's an idiot.

To put in how unpopular Tim Sylvia was as heavyweight champion, at my brothers first ever amateur fight he was cornering my brothers opponent, reffed a few fights and did autographs, but he also gave me a free autograph and picture because I got a nose bleed and I was like 7 lol I have nothing bad to say about the man

Dana’s words: you owe it to the fans! You owe it to that belt! You owe it to this company! And you owe it to Johnny Hendrix! Dana’s actual thoughts: you owe it to Me, you owe it to this company! You owe it to the UFC, and you OWE IT TO ME!
