This model year Camaro is my favorite. My husband bought his in 1973...302 engine yellow w/black stripes. I fell in love with them both that night we met! We got married 3 months later. He street drag race it. We were young and poor...it had a cracked motor block...couldn't be driven. My father won't let us leave in driveway till we could fix it. He sold it. He regretted it for years. 5 yrs. later we divorced. 45 some years later he became terminally ill. I set out to find car and did. It was restored 5 years after it was sold. Hood and engine replaced and rest original parts. Painted red not stock yellow. Sadly, he passed away before pictures got to him. I have them, know the current owner. Its safely tucked away in a garage.! Thanks for sharing this gem...only special people love this car!

Christopher did he ever say why he didn’t drive it a lot? I had a 69 vette that my Dad bought in 1972 with only 68,000 miles on it. We were the second owner and I started driving it when I was 15 years old. I’m 53 and it has 80,000 miles on it. I sold it 2 years ago because it was just sitting in the barn wasting away. My dad did a full on frame restoration but I thought someone else would enjoy it like I did. Thanks

My dream car! I was a paperboy and my neighbor had TWO 1969 Z28 Camaros that had DZ 302 small blocks in them and he would fly up and down the street chirping the gears and those scars were beautiful. He had a rally green one with white stripes and a royal blue one with white stripes. They were both parked next to each other in a two-car garage and I would look through the window and drool. It was early 80s so the cars were barely 10 years old and they looked brand-new! I would rather have a DZ 302 small block Camaro over any big block any day.

There are people out there who buy things and don’t use them. My father was notorious for that. He had a car he bought and it sat in the garage because he was afraid it would get scratches. It takes a form of OCD there are people out there. Only in the last 15 years have cars been showed on KZbin. There are cars out there nobody knows about. Young guys who bought these cars second hand with low miles are only 60 years old. In the 70- early 80’s s it wasn’t hard to find garage queens. I remember seeing these cars on the road teenaged in 1983-88 drove these. They could be bought for 5 grand back in the early mid eighties. Show cars were maybe 10-15 grand guys who worked fishing boats all summer would buy them cash for their senior year. Early mid eighties high school parking lots were mini classic car shows. These cars were 12-15 years old back then.

Really fine example of a 69 Z-28 in all its glory. I am not a Chevy guy but have the utmost respect for the effort it takes to maintain these gems. When I first moved to North Carolina in 1974. At the age of 15 I was visiting my Aunt and Uncle. In their garage sat a 1968 Turquoise Blue Camaro SS RS convertible. Next to it an identical color combination 71 Toyota Celica convertible. Both had white tops. Both were sitting with a few flat tires. I asked my Aunt why the cars were there. They were gifts given to their daughters as a High School graduation gift. To drive while in College. But they only drove them a few times and left them parked in the garage. Shame. The cars looked brand new except for the dust.

Anthony, I had more time this morning to study the engine pics. Definitely been apart. Looking closely at the intake manifold bolts, they are incorrect. That style with the built in washer head are for BBC aluminum intake applications. Small blocks did not use the capture washer style bolts. So the intake has been off. Also the bracket that holds the power brake vacuum hose is not supposed to be painted engine color. The valve covers have a reproduction "oil fill" cap and the valve covers also appear polished. Factory valve covers were a dull cast finish, so these have either been polished or are reproductions that come polished. Of course the throttle return spring is incorrect. Should be a light green and facing rearward of the throttle arm. Reproduction radiator cap etc... I like the car of course, but maybe a bit misrepresented.

Lots of rich people own nice cars and don’t drive them. When I was a kid we lived in a rented house. The landlord ( Frank Read ) didn’t include the garage with the house. I remember one day ( we had been in the house approximately 6 years) he came over and opened the garage. He and a few guys pushed out a yellow car . Turns out Frank had 39 houses he rented out and lots of them had a garage with his car in it. I also remember going to his house and parked behind the motorhome was a 69-70 Mach one Mustang. Turns out back in the day he bought a new tow every year and kept the old one. Years later I went to that house. Frank still liked there. He remembered me. We talked a bit and turns out he sold those cars and most of his houses . He said with a big smile that he did very well on the cars. That’s when I found out the yellow car was a superbee and Frank loved horsepower. True story.

A great Z28 but it is certainly not the untouched original paint survivor 300 mile Z28 as described. I saw the car at a dealership in the Chicago area in the late ‘80s before it went to the Mecum auction. They had photos from early in its life when it had racing numbers painted on the doors. I don’t know anything about its racing history but it was obvious the car had been re-painted at that time based on the vintage photos and its current condition at that time . The car has added wheewell trim, added roofrail trim and anyone who knows original paint cars knows the factory never painted the inside edge of the fenders under the hood so thoroughly. This area received very little paint on the lower edges from the factory. It had incorrect F70-15 Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires then and currently has incorrect Goodyear Polyglas tires. The engine compartment looked restored back then as it does today with reproduction hood insulation, incorrect alternator bracket, painted engine lift hooks, incorrect intake manifold bolts, incorrect brake master cylinder, complete firewall blackout added and no evidence of the factory inspection stamps P T B, etc. etc.. A great looking original 1969 Z28 just not the “lowest mileage untouched survivor” it’s made out to be.

I have seen cars that were more original low mile examples. But even those cars the owners instead of leaving them alone they had the engines removed and refinished. So they lost that all original once claim. I have said it before. Only way to keep them 100% untouched is not to drive or let the engine even come up to operating temp. Must be kept in a climate controlled storage and don't even allow dust to settle. But if the car gets driven and engine comes up to operating temp time after time the engine will loose the new as rolled off the assembly line look. It would still be clean just not factory fresh look. Many owners feel the need to refinish the engine verses just light cleaning.

How come the VIN on the cowl tag does not match the VIN on the window sticker?

Cowl tag has body number! Not the vin number on it !

Beautiful car it’s amazing that it is not restored. Such a rare find. 😊

Anthony, while I too would question the originality, I can't say for sure without seeing it in person. But the engine compartment does give me the initial impression it's been fluffed. Body tags weren't necessarily body color (mine isn't and is unrestored) but what does raise question is how the transition from black out to body color is too perfect. Norwood never spent a lot of time here making a nice mask line. It was more of a template laid over. Depending on the build date the amount of body color and black out varied throughout production. Sometimes you saw body color as low as the trim tag, sometimes a light mist of color, sometimes not so much, but what you never saw is a really nice mask line and paint transition, however cars today are over restored in this area. The other paint detail that jumps out at me is the stripes. GM would spray the stripe color under the cowl before it was installed so it would blend with the stripes under the grill. On all original paint cars I've viewed and have pictures of, they almost always have some of the stripe color exposed under the cowl panel because this paint process was not masked. This is even more noticeable on a white stripe car such as this. I would expect to see some white paint coming out from under the cowl panel on the top portion of the firewall. Again, many today are over restored in this area. On my original 69 Z, the gloss black paint sprayed under the cowl to match the black stripes actually comes out from under the cowl panel all the way over to the top edge of the firewall, so the entire top of my firewall is gloss black, then transitions to a semi black on the vertical surface. Lastly, I see no remnants of any paint, body, trim (PBT) ink stampings on the firewall anywhere. Hope that helps.

Criticize all you want, but when it comes down to it, there isn’t one of us who wouldn’t want it in our own garage.
@donmoore77854 жыл бұрын
@@joesaunier9719 The comment you replied to did not come off as critical at all to me. The person was simply pointing out things they have observed over the years and bringing them up as possible questions for consideration. Whether or not someone would desire the car he didn't address at all.

Hey Patrick, people who own cars like this do they start the car on a schedule like once a month and let it idle for 5 minutes or so, or drive it around the block every so often. Or is it always going to be a museum type car so it doesn’t matter?
@oldskipper13946 жыл бұрын
I have some difficulty with this. I believe the paint is original, lacquer can be buffed out. But you're telling me that this car hasn't had any touch up work done? Was it kept in a hermetically sealed, humidity controlled environment? If it wasn't, then corrosion would've shown up somewhere, like the brake booster or the master cylinder. Age alone would've caused the hoses to dry up and start cracking. Original it may be, but someone did some restoration work on this. Still a beautiful car though.

Love these vintage GM muscle cars. What is the difference between the Z28 and the RS. I got to ride in an RS many many times. It still brings back the most wonderful memories .

Seems like kind of a waste. These cars were meant to be driven, not hung on the wall like a painting.

Don't disagree that cars are supposed to be used. That said a reason that many of us watched this video is because it has 314 miles. To see a 50 year old (new car) is amazing

ATTENTION !!!!!! Mr Nichols please respond to my question. This particular question really means a lot to my family if this might be one of 2 that my dad or uncle bought at this time. So my question is who was the original buyer of this camaro in the year 68 to 69? By chance was it someone with the last name of Norman???

Thanks for the video, great info as always. I just don't understand how and why this car can exist. Was it bought and stored for the investment? Was it bought by someone who went to Viet Nam and didn't return home? Do you have anymore history on it besides the paperwork?

I love all the videos you make. If I could make a suggestion though, I wish you would tell how much horsepower the cars have along with Est. 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Also elaborate on the options a little more, like some SS have a tacometer and some do not. How many do vs how many donts? Anyway, you should write a book you are obviously an expert

The HP is right on the air cleaner housing. He often does mention the instruments, and whether a tach was an option and on what trim level. He didn't in this video though.

Fabulous car! I'm a Ford guy but live 69 Camaros, especially Z28. There's many stories of guys buying a car like this,going to Vietnam,not coming back. Their parents then, refuse to sell his car,since it was their son's. Maybe this was one of those....!?

Dennis Guttrich As a Ford guy, you might be interested to know that in 1969 I got my first new car. I really wanted a mustang with a 390, but the local dealer wanted too much for on. Instead, I got a new Plymouth road runner with a 383. Now I'm looking for a 2013 or 2014 mustang and can't find one. I guess I'm just not supposed to have a mustang.

Keep digging Mike Brown, they're out there. An engineer friend of mine just sold a ZO6 Vette he hopped up and did track time with. Bought a '70 Mustang fastback he built into a sweet restomod with Ford crate 302. Side exhaust, wheels tires have the car sitting like the Trans Am cars did. Awesome! Crazy fast too...

I had a 69 Rally Sport Z28 in hugger orange and three Indy pace cars with a 396 and one 375hp so I know these cars pretty well. Sure does look like a restoration but I'm not going to call it through the angle of a camera. He seems to have all the history for it so I would bet it's what he says it is. I'm sure every mile ever put on that car was known if it was at one of those high buck auctions
