In 1968 I took delivery of a brand new Z/28. I read an article about it in Hot Rod magazine and went to a Chevy dealer with my Dad and the magazine. The salesman started to show me what he had in stock, but no Z/28s. I told him what I wanted and he knew nothing about it. So, we sat down with the Hot Rod magazine that had options and part numbers and we ordered my 68 Z from Hot Rod magazine! It was Tuxedo black with white stripes, black interior, Rally Sport option, 4:56 gears, Munci 4 speed, and duel quad in the trunk. Duel quad in the trunk? Yep, it was a dealer installed option. I drove it like I stole it until I got drafted in May 69. It went its way and I went mine, southeast Asia.

My Dad's younger brother dropped out of college, moved to California, got married, and bought himself a brand new '68 Camaro SS396. It was white with black side stripes, a 4 speed, and loaded with options like a tape deck and alarm. Then his draft notice came. He lost his wife and the car, but was lucky to not get sent to Viet Nam. He brought the Camaro back home to West Virginia where his parents finally sold it after he'd left for service. My Dad took me for a ride in it when we were visiting, but I was too young to remember.

Early Z28's were not required to have either spoilers or the tach. The spoiler package and the tach were included late in the year and the base price of the package was increases correspondingly. X3 exterior style trim Z28 - you noted the gill trim, however it also included-, tail lamp lenses with vertical stainless trim, roof drip molding, wheel opening moldings and the headlamp bezels have chrome rings around them, additionally the rockers were blacked out. Pedal trim is part of the interior trim package Z21- which also included the grab bar on the dash. The X in the X3 on the rear bulkhead indicates interior paint color. X=Black B=Blue R=Red G=Green You can send the Vin off to the NCRS and they will tell you which dealership originally recieved the car. You could luck out and the dealership has the paperwork.

I can remember fixing up my 68 Camaro in the late 80's and just going to the junkyard to get all the parts I needed to add power steering and front disk brakes off of other first gen Camaros. Except for the obvious collision damage, some of those cars were nicer than mine and they were just stacked one on top of the other, two cars high! My friend and me restored a 69 Z28 in the 80's. It had been rolled in a drag race. the original motor was in the trunk. Back then you could buy panels from car magazines , we did just that. When we were done, you couldn't tell the car had been wrecked. He recently sold the car for 50k. Did my 69 427/390hp Vette the year after....lots of fun rebuilding cars.

All Z28's were required to have "Power" Disc brakes. No mention of that here. The Master cylinder is mounted to the firewall. No power brake booster. A lot of these were drag raced as this one looks like it was riden hard. Any upgrade to the cam required the removal of the booster because the engine would not create enough vacuum. Funny how his car would be looked down on, but I see just the opposite. This car has had more fun than all those '69 Z's stuck in the garage or on a trailer. Nice find.

In 1992 I bought a 1975 Impala because someone had put some 186 heads on the engine in it. I paid $100 for the car. Took it home and pulled the engine and scrapped the rest. Got into the engine and the block was an "mp" code. 1967. 302.. had the solid cam and popups still. It had 1970 186 heads on it. I rebuilt it in my garage and put it in my 69 Chevelle which I traded off soon after. Wish I still had both the engine and the car.

I just did subscribe to your channel, I'll be getting in touch with you in the near future for some coaching and/or purchasing. I'm in Flint, Michigan where I grew up and I know nothing about any body work or discoveries, if you want to know about sb chevies and the construction of any of them maybe I can be of some type of help to you. Thanks for sharing with me and many others. You have a Great Day.

3/4 of an inch is .75. A 1/16 is .0625. .80 would be between 3/4 and 13/16 (.8125) of an inch.

If this car was manufactured October 69, wouldn't it be a 70 model year?

If it's a real Z/28, where is the power brake booster? All 69 Z/28's had power discs at least up front, with some having the rare 4 wheel discs. Also, is the cowl tag in place? If it is, it will state it as either an x33 or x77 car.
