Laine is not coming to Montreal, that would be a desperate move but his name is all over the trade rumours this week likely because Grant McCagg first mentioned Laine's name as a good trade target on the Sick Podcast ??? This guy does not have anything that would fit the culture Montreal is trying to establish !!!

Great report LR99: 1. If Habs are to move one of their young "D" as part of an upgrade package....Harris is the player to move. I still think he has potential at 23 yo...he's still growing/developing as a "D" at the NHL level and we've all heard how it takes "D" longer to mature. He is a solid trade piece with a promising future as a solid 3rd pair "D" (maybe 2nd pair). 2. Habs need to be in the mix in the '24-'25 season for a playoff spot. They need to take the perverbial "next step" and be competing for a playoff spot. As I've said before...Suzy and Cole have only 7-8 years on their contracts so that is the Habs' "Cup window" right there....the team needs to mature and improve this season and that is Kent Hughes' mission at the draft next month....to trade for a promising young player and/or a solid proven veteran to help the team NOW! 3. Ok....I'm a fan of Laine and his recovery. He's a beauty of a goal scorer but we all know his defensive liabilities and missing time due to health issues. With that in mind...I'm not convinced he'd be a good addition to the Habs, especially at his salary unless a significant chunk of $$$ is retained by CBJ. He's a risk for sure. I see the Habs needing a guy like Mark Scheiffle, JT Miller, Brady or Matt Tkachuk, Vinnie Trochek, etc etc.....the list goes on i.e. a player (or players) with grit and backbone who can score and play physical. Josh Anderson was supposed to be that guy but he's not lived up to the promise in Montreal. He could elsewhere and could be good trade bait!!! 4. I like the idea of going after Necas....jury still out on Zegras...he has skills for sure and maybe his connection with Caufield would be a real winner for the Habs...but...he's a wee lad and Habs are already small and need to get bigger.

As a Columbus fan, I'd gladly do that trade. Then I'd take that pick at #26 and combine it with the pick the Jackets have at #36 and trade them to St. Louis for the #14 overall pick and draft Adam Jiricek. Then with the $ I saved in the trade, I'd go all out to sign Jake Guentzel. For the record, Laine's issues aren't drug or alcohol related.

Monahan, Kovalchuk, Kovalev and Radulov were all at a low point in their careers when they came to play for montreal. obviously the issues and difficulties vary from one player to the next but one thing is the same. each player left montreal in a much better position than when they arrived. Laine could benefit from playing here as much as montreal can benefit from his skill.

Just looked up his salary and I'm going to have to say no. If we need to spend 8+ million on a guy then might as well swing for the fence and get someone like Draisaitl or Rantanan for 12-13mil. This way we get an guaranteed elite scorer that we need.

No please no. Lazy Laine is the last thing the Canadians need to waste time, effort and money on. You would be better off asking for a bag of pucks for Harris then Laine. It shouldn't even be considered. You want viable assets, not someone you are paying 8 million a year that is as unreliable as Laine. This concept comes from people that have never actually watched him play. He isn't worth anywhere close to 8 million per season and isn't likely ever to get back to 30. Mentally he simply doesn't have the fortitude to do so. Skill yes but as he only puts in effort when he wants to then it should be a hard pass.

@@wolverine1800 Annoyed. 😁 More so at the fantasy then many habs fans think they have. 40+ seems in the eyes of many to be assured before he even takes to the ice. He had problems with the pressure in Winnipeg and complained and bitched when he wasn't given first line minutes when he wasn't earning it. How will habs fans take to that attitude if he hasn't matured enough to get past that nonsense. I am far more reserved thinking at best around 25 or 26, unlikely 30+ let alone 40.
