Ryan's (Harrison Ford) family is endangered when a terrorist group targets the British minister for Northern Ireland.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In Patriot Games, Harrison Ford plays former CIA agent Jack Ryan, taking over from Alec Baldwin, who had played author Tom Clancy's brainy protagonist in Hunt for Red October. This time around, Ryan foils an attempted assassination, thereby incurring the wrath of a maniacal Irish radical (Sean Bean). After seemingly neutralizing the villains, and deciding to celebrate the occasion with his wife (Anne Archer) and daughter (Thora Birch), everything appears to be back to normal; then all hell breaks loose. Author Tom Clancy himself bemoaned the liberties taken with his novel in the final sequences; the picture scored with audiences, however, and soon inspired a followup, A Clear and Present Danger (1994), also starring Ford.

I don't know if there is an American equivalent position but palace guards are probably the equivalent of US Army Rangers in terms of training. They could kick your ass with their pinky if they wanted to. It's a huge honor to be a palace guard.

This was filmed at the old Greenwich Naval College in London, which is frequently used for filming period dramas as well. A friend worked there guiding, and turned up one morning to find it set-dressed as a fake London street, with street lamps, mailboxes, traffic lights etc.

Alec Baldwin would've been a decent Jack Ryan had he played a movie adaptation of Sum of All Fears and beyond. Baldwin's whole shtick was that Jack Ryan was a confident smart guy, but in Clancy's '80s books, Ryan is more of a low-level analyst and more humble toward his superiors. Plus the director decided to insert conflict where there is none in the movie. In the book, most people believe Ryan's assertion that Ramius is trying to defect. But in the film everyone challenges that assertion to make Ryan seem like David to their Goliath.

I think Mrs Thatcher just about wiped them out son. I think the bomb was used to compromise the ballistic integrity of the bullet-resistant glass of the car. Once this was done, the occupants of the vehicle were shot at close range to confirm the deaths.

Also the statistical probability of 3 former military just being on a crowded train is higher than one guy in the CIA just stumbling by accident. There are a lot more former military than active or former spooks running around. All the events shown here are statistical rarities. If you happen to be in one its a miracle. If you stumble like Ryan that is almost unheard of. All these movies are about events that are most unlikely. Don't give me one example out of hundreds. That just proves how incrediblt unlikely it is for Ryan to just stumble unintentionally into this.

aDisabledDeer you are wrong since if you watch more in the movie you can see the guards had white plumes in there hats and white plumes is the Grenadiers
