CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Ryan (Harrison Ford) turns the tables on a would-be assassin.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
In Patriot Games, Harrison Ford plays former CIA agent Jack Ryan, taking over from Alec Baldwin, who had played author Tom Clancy's brainy protagonist in Hunt for Red October. This time around, Ryan foils an attempted assassination, thereby incurring the wrath of a maniacal Irish radical (Sean Bean). After seemingly neutralizing the villains, and deciding to celebrate the occasion with his wife (Anne Archer) and daughter (Thora Birch), everything appears to be back to normal; then all hell breaks loose. Author Tom Clancy himself bemoaned the liberties taken with his novel in the final sequences; the picture scored with audiences, however, and soon inspired a followup, A Clear and Present Danger (1994), also starring Ford.
CREDITS:
TM & © Paramount (1992)
Cast: Keith Campbell, Harrison Ford, Jeff Mandon, Eric Paul, Polly Walker
Director: Phillip Noyce
Producers: Lis Kern, Charles H. Maguire, Mace Neufeld, Robert Rehme
Screenwriters: Tom Clancy, W. Peter Iliff, Donald Stewart

In hindsight, replacing Alec Baldwin with Harrison Ford made sense. Love Alec, but he just didn't have the chops for an action-thriller, like Ford does, which he has proven ever since he worked with George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg.
@patwaters-actormoviereviewer

@gladtobeangry
@gladtobeangry 5 жыл бұрын
@@patwaters-actormoviereviewer I thought Alec Baldwin's performance in Hunt for Red october was spot on. He played a bureaucrat that had not seen any action in the field, because that's what the character is. He's a theoretician thrown into a situation having to make the best of it, because he's the only one who understands the intentions of Marco Ramius. I never liked the idea of making him a sort of american James Bond. It doesn't logically follow from the job he had in Hunt for Red October, and it ruined the franchise for me.
@CarlosFontes

@@gladtobeangry see I have to disagree, because I feel like Harrison Ford was the better Jack Ryan. Not only because I believe Ford to be the better action star, but one has to remember that Jack Ryan was a Marine Officer prior to joining the CIA. And Ford's character is much more convincing of someone who was a Marine Officer, all of whom are combat trained, than was Baldwin's character. I'm biased because I am a Marine, but that's just my thoughts. Still though, all of the Jack Ryan movies are excellent, with Clear and Present Danger being my favorite.

The Naval Academy Guard to the right with the glasses was a friend of mine and another friend's roommate took off of work to watch them film this scene. I talked to the Annapolis Police Department and they said the streets were closed for three blocks and the light was paused to stay green for an hour.

Yokai Agreed. The director said in the commentary that Ryan was originally supposed to put up a much better fight in this scene but Harrison told him it wouldn’t be that realistic for a middle aged guy to be kicking the crap out of a young fit 20 year old. Especially one that’s trained in hand to hand combat. So Ryan losing, here, was actually all Harrison’s idea. I thought that was cool cuz not every actor would do that.

I keep on thinking what this movie would be like if Alec Baldwin reprised his role as Ryan. Don't get me wrong. Ford is perfect for the role and he makes Ryan a capable action hero who happens to be an everyman. But man, Baldwin as Ryan? Alec portrays Ryan as a reluctant everyman who does the right thing. But his version of Ryan is no action hero. He is like a typical office worker who just fell into dangerous situations. Well that's my opinion. Comment's note: I doubt that some of you guys would not make an overused and trolling references from the actor's recent controversy.

Its nice how incredibly obvious our would be assassin was. In real life any half decent killer would not be this incompetent. In real life you never even see them if their training level is at least adequate. Just ask all those folk that died in mysterious circumstances over the decades. Oh wait you can't. Of course if the assassin had been decently trained we wouldn't have a movie. It would end with an unsuspecting Ryan getting gunned down. The end. But make no mistake in real life 99.5% of the time if they're after you its over.
