I said this on your first review of this guy, absolutely one of my fave G1 figures - and in my opinion a lot of play value. You're right about Simon Furman's work - his characterisations of Thunderwing and the likes of (in the UK comic) Galvatron and Death's Head are a large part of why I am a Transformers fan. Great idea on the re-shooting of reviews by the way, partcularly any figures you didn't transform on first go.

I think redoing some of them would give you the chance to expand/ compare with some of the other versions of those characters that have come out since then. Keep up the excellent work sir!

If wasn't getting out of the 80s TF fandom id probably get one of these. Hoping Legacy does Thunderwing justice. That being some way to do the shell and the pretender gimmick. Looking at the smaller maybe as a larger target master?

I Love Thunderwing, I only hope is that sometime soon within the new toy lines we would be able to get a new new version of Thunderwing that has the pretender gimmicks as well as a matrix compartment. That, and maybe an exo-suit gimmick like he had in the comics.

I swear, more recent interpretation not having thunderwing being a completelly anonymmous bot that rose to power in the war and reinvented himself is't a waste of a charather hopefully we'll get some reinterpretation based on the jhiaxus mold in the legacy line, as this one is possibly one of the better bot to come out of latter G1

Great video. Always thought Pretenders was when Transformers as a toyline took a nosedive. The new gimmicks they were bringing meant the quality of articulation and vehicle modes weren't anywhere near as good as when the line started.

Not to mention that despite the inner robot shrinkage, it was totally worth it for the gimmick of the Mega Pretenders, where the Pretender Shells themselves could transform (and combine with the inner robot vehicle mode, too)!! A trident for Octopunch?? I wonder if he was a nod to/parody of Aquaman, though? 😏😏😏 It's pretty badass that they had their own weapons in the comics. I think Bludgeon having a sword pretty much influenced every modern Bludgeon toy maybe starting from the RotF Bludgeon & Banzaitron... And as far as the inner robot lookin' generic...they all looked generic (except for the inner robot of Japanese exclusive Metalhawk) until the Classic Pretenders came along. 😏😏😏 Speaking of Japanese exclusive figures, maybe you oughta get G1 Black Shadow...the retool of Thunderwing. And $150 for a complete Thunderwing?? That's actually not bad at all, considering how high other G1 peeps can get. Review Redo?? I'd say this was a resounding success. More please!!

No, the hole is too small. It can peg into the back of the figure in the hole used for ship mode but it prevents the panel from lying flush on his back.

how do you prep your g1 bots for new toyhax decals? google and forums probably have an answer, but what do you do?

Just wipe them down with a soft cloth. If I'm removing old Decals, I use Goo Gone, hot soapy water, and then wipe them down.

13:08 that's a major design flaw of the shell. What's the point of wearing an armour, if the user can feel the damage on it as pain? It's just like a secondary skin nothing more.

Only if the Bot was outside of the Shell, within the Shell they were near indestructible. They withstood the blasts from the Underbase powered Starscream.

I lost a great game of Transformers roulette when I bought Crossblades instead of Thunderwing. Supposedly 15 year old me ( yep. I was still buying them at 15 ) thought I had enough Con Pretenders, and needed an Autobot to even out the armies. 15 year old me was a real idiot considering how popular Thunderwing ended up. Wasn't the worst though. For some reason I grabbed Stranglehold instead of the Bludgeon on the peg behind it. Just.... Sigh..... lol

@@PatriotPrimeReviews You honestly aren't missing much by never having met Crossblades. Unlike Thunderwing, who looks like a big, bad, beautiful bot, even without all of his accessories. Crossblades looked good in the box when I bought him. But once you got him out. He kinda just looked like a guy with ski's on his arms, who tripped over a curb, landed flat on his face breaking both legs in the process. And just happened to have an orange toothpick in his mouth when he did it. The only thing more awkward than Crossblades is his Tinder profile. lmao See. Now, today me agree's whole wholeheartedly that you can never have enough cons. But 15 year old said "Nope' both sides. EVEN!" 15 year old me needed slapping. :p

Hi Patriot Prime, I agree that Thunderwing is a cool character and together with Bludgeon he is probably one of the most iconic pretenders ever. As for your amazement with Thunderwing's hollow head, I agree, it doesn't look good, I suspect Hasbro wanted to save some money there, there's no other reasonable explanation in my opinion. I also have a question: You mentioned that you fixed the paint damage on your Thunderwing. What paint/color pen did you use? In addition to Classics Pretender Bumblebee and Starscream, which also need refurbishing, I also have a Thunderwing whose condition is even worse than the ones you mentioned on yours and I'm in the process of restoring the three with new stickers and 3D printed spare parts/weapons, but as a newbie I have absolutely no idea what to do about the color and of course I don't want to ruin any of the three.

The only paint I had to touch up was the black on his helmet. I just used a Gloss Black Paint Pen that I picked up from Walmart. I'd take you figure to the store that way you can match the paint as close as possible.

He mentioned it once. During the Matrix Quest story, Bumblebee sent his Pretender shell to attack Thunderwing and Thunderwing said "As a Pretender myself I understand that the damage inflicted on the user's shell is felt by the owner, only two fold." as he blasted Bee's shell apart.

Cool toy, but i was never a fan of his samurai mask face. I mean i know this toys were designed buy Japanese people, but forcing their culture into alien robots is a little too much for me. I know Optimus and Soundwave are look like ninjas with their facemask, but it's so subtle it doesn't bother me at all.

It's not uncommon for designers and artists to design something based on existing culture. The Samurai armor is worn by a warrior, which for characters in a fictional war, that theme can be applied easily to a warrior themed bot. Like you said, they're designed from Japan, so I'm not sure why you're bothered. Also, not to get on a nerve, but wow I can't believe the sentence 'forcing their culture into alien robots' now exists
