4:30 That's his cassette with his favorite metal songs he listens to while smashing Autobots.

Skullgrin was my only pretender and I miss this figure. Me and my friends didn't know what pretenders were, didn't have the comics or never saw the commercials, so we pretended the shell wad hiding the ultimate weapon so when it came out everyone died. I wish I still had him. I'm actually excited for the upcoming figure. Thanks for sharing this, brought back some good memories.

The new version looks good but I wish Hasbro would make efforts to reinvent the pretender gimmick

I had Skullgrin and Bomb Burst as a kid (only the outer shells survived) so I am totally hyped for this new figure, I love the way they've married the inner and outer form together for Legacy line, If they decide to re-do all the Pretenders - I'm all in.

I'm excited for all of Wave 3 of Legacy, but Skullgrin is definitely a unique highlight. Super excited to get them all.

I remember getting him for my 12th birthday. His accessories were too easy to damage. I loved his portrayal in the G1 comic. I always liked the more reasonable Decepticons. I wish the new toy had the inner robot head especially given we're getting figures with multiple heads like Ransack and Delta Magnus. Great review as always.

They should make an “Action Masteresque” version of Circuit Breaker with some kind of transforming exo suit. She was such a big part of those Marvel comics back in the day.

Marvel own's Circuit Breaker, not Hasbro.

I can totally see the guys that originally worked on Skullgrin making that pink actually red but the powers-that-be made them choose another color because they didn't want to scare kids and piss off parents. So they spitefully changed it to hot pink. Lol! It still works. Bright pink could be the color of a space demon's raw exposed flesh.

Great job sir w/ the review! Ironically I am building mine backwards as I had all the accessories & found a great shell locally rather cheap. Just need to pick up the inner bot, which I have a lead on,

The figures are cared for and discussed and having them in today's conditions is good. The simple in the transformation is the most interesting since using the imagination was more fun in the g1

I love his design, think it's iconic, and I like the grey pink robot but he looked much better in animation. Enjoyed him as Dauros in Masterforce, where he inspired the myth of the minotaur and terrorized primitive humans as giant warlord monsters with his buddies until getting sealed away offline by the Autobots for centuries.

Skullgrin actually looks like Deepdownfear from Gormiti! I think Deepdownfear was inspired by Skullgrin, cause Gormiti were actually created thanks to influence by BattleBeasts Transformers!

I just re-bought Skullgrin. Came with everything but his guns for about 66ush USD. Instead of plonking down more cash. I 3d modeled both guns, and have them ready to print. That is if the bloody thing hasn't been lost in the post. Its been at the same Australia Post sorting centre for the last week. UGH!

New Skullgrin isn't a Pretender. Doesn't make sense why he'd even have the likeness of his outer shell even within the stories. The sculpt, detail, and quality doesn't compare to the OG either. Imo. I'll stick with the G1. Great review my man.

Trying to justify the pretender gimmick - especially the Decepticon pretenders - within the story continuity just makes my nose bleed.

Pretenders were made to infiltrate different planets/societies across the galaxy. Makes sense to me as to why the decepticon pretenders are all big monsters. As for the autobots, there are giant sized humanoids somewhere in the galaxy. In the issues focusing on a couple of them, they used the shells to hide from people who hated robotic beings.
