@@honesttroll6332 Christ's warning against calling hypocrites father and teacher is not an absolute prohibition against using these terms, as some teach. These terms are applied to men many times in the NT, all of which usages are inspired by God. Teacher is used in Jn 3:10; Acts 13:1; 1Co 12:28; Eph 4:11; and 2Ti 1:11. Father is used in Lk 16:24; 1Co 4:15; and Col 3:21. Since the very early days of the Church, bishops and presbyters have been called “father” not because they take the place of God, but because in their fatherly care for their flocks, they lead people to God, and they exercise fatherly authority within the community.

@@honesttroll6332 1. Abraham didn’t rebuke him, but called him son. “But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things…’” 2. St. Paul is talking about himself as an imitator of Christ. “I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you. † For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.” Notice “as my beloved children” and “in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel” 3. This concedes Christ isn’t saying just simply calling someone father. There’s a deeper meaning than just prohibition of the terms.

What a beautiful video. The very first icon I received after being baptized into the Orthodox Church was the icon of Theophany. With regards to activism, you are 100% right. We have become too comfortable in our modern lives to make any effort to speak out against evil. I noticed this especially when churches were locked down during Covid.

Im new to Orthodoxy, todays a friday and a fast day im pretty sure. Should we have a feast like that of Thanksgiving, or a feast of certain foods and drink only? Speaking of calendars I learned about the the two calendars controversy (old calendar, gregorian calendar). Each and and every day I learn something new about Orthodox Christianity and it is captivating, the many heresies that cropped and sadly continue to crop up, St.Gregory Palamas, St.John chrystosom, I prayed for wisdom and slowly im receiving knowledge and wisdom. Thank God for all things, all Glory belongs to God! ☦

Welcome to Orthodoxy! Every Wednesday and Friday is to be observed with fasting unless some important Feast takes precedence over the fast. In this case, even though Theophany is a feast that falls on Friday this year, you do not observe the fast. It is always a fast-free day. There are also periods where fasting is forbidden, such as the week after Easter and the week after Pentecost. There are a lot of Orthodox parishes that have pages dedicated to fasts on their websites. I recommend you Google it. Also, many church calendars will indicate the fasting rule for each day. It is very helpful.

@Ana Pinjuh More exactly some EO countries use the revised Julian calendar: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revised_Julian_calendar. But I'm not going into a debate about which calendar should the EO Churches use as I'm no expert on this topic. This is the current situation and we need to deal with it as it is. 🙂 I'm curious if you have some link which claims that the Julian calendar is scientific accurate and used by astronomers.

Father, honest question. My whole life, I have been a hard-core LCMS Christian. I loved my old school conservative/Confessional Lutheran heritage. My wife's good friends are all Lutheran Missouri synod pastor wives. Recently, I have really been considering Orthodoxy because of you, Father Heers, a local friend, and my own research and prayers. My pastor friends, my 2 old pastors and my father have all told me to become a LCMS pastor. Ways have opened for this to happen. But my heart has been drawn to Orthodoxy. My wife's too as of recently because of attending a couple Divine Services. My soul is torn in two because I have always believed this is my calling. How did you deal with this???

Forgive me as I'm not a Priest or Clergy yet...however, I did start Grad School last fall in hopes of being ordained. I wanted to just know how you were led to a "found," Orthodoxy :) I was an Anglican and at one point wanted to pursue Orders there but man...when I was "led," to Orthodoxy....whew...It was so much more than anything I (gratefully) experienced in Anglicanism. I love Anglo Saxon chorals both all boys and mixed choirs and their prayers and offerings blessed my Christian journey then. A blessed feast of Theopany to you and yours!!!

I'm not Orthodox, or any denomination. It sounds like you have many good influences around you in your life. But if your heart is set on a higher path, why would you seek out an earthly teacher when one has already come and called you. You don't need any earthly title to prove your faith. Nor do you need any other Father but the one who is in heaven. Jesus gave us a perfect example of what we need to do. Just follow the Word. Good luck and God bless you.
