This seems pedestrian, lackluster staging. Soprano has all the notes but no style, no fun. Way too serious. It's a gloriously silly opera, and needs to be played for the comedy - and pathos. And why set in World War II ??? The whole structure of modern armies would have made Marie's upbringing among soldiers impossible.
