I grew up in a family that loved Southern Gospel music...your description imagining the way fans of the genre and GVB reacted is spot on, lol. I was a teen when David Phelps joined the group and I remember watching the first Gaither Homecoming videos in which he was featured and thought, "That's like the best singer there, right?" But I doubted my reaction, wondering if youth rendered me uneducated or uncultured to that point. Apparently I had a good ear, even then, because he was then the best singer in that studio, and is now even better than he was then. He's remarkably talented, well educated musically, and driven to push himself through practices and exercises to keep his body developing and strong for the music he makes.

In an old interview, Mark mentioned that Reggie Smith began doing a couple cruise performances with the vocal band in order find his groove with the group and once he heard David it basically pushed Reggie out the way

The comedy bit before David sang was funny. I believe many of us born again Christians, at some times in our lives, feel as if we are not doing enough as witnesses for Jesus Christ where we are, BUT we are witnessing for HIM for others to see and hear through our very actions and words. So yes, Little Is Much When God Is In It!! Remember that the unsaved are paying close attention and Jesus is using you to reach the lost, unsaved.
