This hymn transports me back to my childhood and the little baptist church where my uncle preached. It’s a beautiful rendition by David. Thank you Lyle for reacting to it.

I felt the exact same memory. Reminds me of my Grammy. Always HATED going to church….but it somehow shaped me in to the person I am today. My Grammy introduced me to “Gaither gospel hour” as a teenager and I praise god for that. I’m blessed

This is an old hymn "In The Garden", such a beautiful song and many artists have recorded it. David puts his signature on it when he sings "melody" and makes that little run. The piano is perfection, David's voice is always perfect, and he sings each word so you can visualize it. I kept waiting to see if he'd have anyone back him up with the harmonizing part, but instead he invites everyone to join him! Always such a special moment, especially when you are there! Beautiful!!! And I love watching you hear this song and getting your reaction! Thank you!!!!! Calming is a perfect description!

Yes I know i'm a year late. I love David Phelps, but, my favorite version of this song is by Elvis. My dear departed grandmother loved to listen to Elvis sing gospel. She couldn't hear much at all without her old fashioned hearing aid. So when she listened to her Elvis gospel music, it was loud. This was one of her favorites.

"In The Garden" brings back so many fond memories. I will be 71 on July 26, and I've been singing this song along with my grandparents, my parents, and my brother since I was 5. It was sung quite frequently during church services. Thank you so much for reacting to this song and helping me to relive some family memories.

My mother used to sing this in church as a solo! Wish she was still here so I could hear her sing it one more time! But I wouldn't want her to leave Heaven! I'm sure she is in the Heavenly choir singing! I'll hear her again one day! Very beautiful! Thank you so much!

I feel about this song like you feel about "You'll Never Walk Alone"...a favorite since my childhood...my youngest brother, Chris, sang this song beautifully in his rich baritone voice...he died while on a tour of the Holy Lands with his wife and daughter in 2009 at the age of 37... the youngest of my 5 brothers and the purest and most loving soul you could imagine... when I saw David sing this live three years ago I was emotionally drained from the beauty of his voice....

This is an old hymn (written in 1912) & it is well loved by so many bc of its simplicity & relationship btwn God & his child. One of the most requested songs at hymn sings & funerals. It was my gma & mother's favorite songs. Thanks so much for choosing this hymn to react to. Of course, David makes it his own, & how beautifully he does it.

This was my granny's favorite hymn. My cousin and uncle even sang it at her funeral. We all get a bit weepy when we hear it because she was such an avid gardener with the most beautiful flowers....so taking a walk with God in her garden is just very appropriate for her. She always said she could hear His voice best when she was tending to living things. This was such a pretty rendition...the musicality, the instruments, and David's lovely voice. Thanks for reacting to this, Lyle.

Hi Lyle, thank you so much for featuring David and team. I'm just on 80 and like folk who have commented below, I too have fond memories of my Dad singing that song and our family singing it around the piano and in church. What a beautiful rendition by David. He truely is a blessing to all and sings with such passion and clarity. God continues to bless the songs he sings. God bless you for featuring David regularly. With my comment of Old Rugged Cross….it isn’t a copying. It’s a similar flow in the heart of the rhythm, in certain areas. “I walk thru the garden alone, WHILE THE DEW IS STILL ON THE ROSES……AND THE VOICE I HEAR… ……THE EMBLEM OF SUFFERING AND SHAME……….AND I LOVE THAT OLD CROSS…

I can appreciate both versions. On the one hand Elvis’ version will always be near to my heart because I grew up listening to Elvis. My mother and Grandmother loved him very much. On the other hand, the first time I heard David’s voice, no version of ANY song will ever come close to him. So, yes, I do agree. 😊
