I've been to at least a dozen snow games living in Western New York and being a fan of the Buffalo Bills. Snow games are some of the best games to go to, including the 4-5 hours of tailgating outside the stadium before the game, and usually an hour more after the game waiting to get out of the parking lot. Between the barbecue, fires, and a few adult beverages while tailgating, everyone keeps pretty warm and has a good time. Usually in Buffalo going to a game is an all day event. There is an RV lot at the stadium that start filling up on Thursdays for the games on Sundays and Monday. If you have the proper gear you're pretty warm all day, and if you live around the teams that get this type of weather most everyone has their winter gear for just such occasions.

We used to go out on Thanksgiving as friends and play just pickup games in the snow. Get a good 10 inches of snow and it's an absolute blast. You work up quite a sweat playing in that kinda condition. Snow actually warms things up. It's a really good insulator. Igloos are made of ice but it can easily reach 70F+ inside. It's when the snow stops and the sky clears... THAT is when the temperature is gonna plummet and you get cold. Besides, everyone is jumping up and down and excited and cheering and plenty of hot cocoa. Or as a guy selling in the stands at one cold game as a kid said: "COLD NIGHT, WARM BEER!"

My wife and I went to a Packers-Lions game at Green Bay, Dec 22, 1990. Lambeau field is an open stadium. No new snow that day. But officially, it was 3 degrees Fahrenheit [-16 C], wind chill 0 Fahrenheit [-18 C], at kickoff. The whole stands were a sea of breath fog. I wore my hunting clothes, boots, double and triple underwear, butt pad. Two ski masks. My breath blew up from inside my ski masks and froze on the inside of my glasses. I went to the bathroom once and cleaned them off, came back to my seat just in time to see Detroit score on a QB draw play, and then I fogged up again. A guy next to me had a giant plastic beer mug. The beer was already slushy-frozen. He knocked it over, it landed upside down at his feet. When he picked the mug back up, the beer just stayed there like a sand castle. Good stiff drink.

I worked at the stadium in buffalo for years and absolutely hated the snow games since we didn't get to at least drink the cold away like the fans. I did catch the famous buffalo/indy game from home since i got snowed in. Was surreal watching, we got 2 feet in the time from the game started to the final whistle.

Snow football is its pinnacle. When it snows, that's when everyone comes out to play.

Buffalo girl, here, and, of course, I'm a huge Bills fan. Snowy games are so much fun to watch and attend. The coldest game I ever went to was in January 1994 with a blistering high temperature of -4 degrees F. I was 13 yrs old and my father made sure that we had lots of layers, hand and foot warmers, hot chocolate, a sleeping bag and were standing on cardboard. Bills beat the Raiders 51-3. :) Go Bills!

It’s the most fun. Football in the snow is the best. The best part is hitting the ground doesn’t hurt as much lol

players tend not to get injured in the snow, they are moving at much lower speeds than on a perfectly dry field. they don't change direction well, so they rarely cut and risk ankle/knee injuries. and, as many have noted here, playing in the snow is the ultimate conditions when you are a kid playing tackle in the back yard, way too much fun. this was a fun vid, thanks!

Me and my friends loved playing football in the snow. Especially on snow days when schools were closed. Nfl is a late summer to mid winter sport so all sorts of weather is experieced during a season.

I played 4 years of highschool and 4 years of college football, and one of the funnest games I ever played in was an alumni game 10 years after I graduated in 5 inches of snow. It really isn't that bad, unless you are a 2nd team guy on the sideline not playing. That gets cold after a while. You would actually love playing in the snow!

I played many rugby games in college in western Pa in the snow, sleet and freezing rain.

“Imagine how cold it is” don’t have to lol, Buffalo native, those games are so much fun! If dressed appropriately of course lmao, I’d rather have snow than rain

Thunder snow is a winter time snow storm with thunder and lightning ! It's kind of rare but, it's well worth the experience.

I played football through high school. Snow games and slop games (rain and mud) were so much fun. What is not fun is having a 20mph northeast wind at -15 and mashing your finger between pads or having a hand get stepped on or something like that. It is so cold you get a delayed onset of pain. You know and see what happened, but it's so cold your finger or hand doesn't feel the pain for about 4 or 5 seconds. I hated playing in cold weather because of that. Where I am, we didn't have a ton of snow, or deep snow..... mostly ice and windchill was the issue we played through. Played maybe 5 games from 9-12 grade with snow of a few inches, but that's about it. So much fun.

growing up playing football/soccer/basketball/tennis/baseball in the snow was the most fun ever as a kid. we prayed for a fluffy snow fall. the shoveling suck*d but we would make igloos.
