the real cold of snowfall is not as it falls, but when it stops. Then the temperature really drops

Its not that bad for the fans either, because that's a lot of body heat . The ones that do get cold choose to let it get to them. I have been to to a bunch of snow games at Mile High Stadium and never got cold. Think about the Barrel Man, He never got cold. It's mind over matter.

It's actually the other way around. Cold air can't hold very much moisture, so when the real cold front blows in, the snow stops, or at least slows way down.

Snow is the best football weather. It's so much fun. And even when you're taking it serious, it also takes on this slightly ridiculous and hilarious bent when people start sliding or disappearing into the snow lol. And the constant movement keeps you warm, the excitement helps you ignore the wet. It cushions falls. You get that glorious crunch that only fresh fallen snow can make as you run. Some great Thanksgiving morning memories growing up in Denver.

I've been to at least a dozen snow games living in Western New York and being a fan of the Buffalo Bills. Snow games are some of the best games to go to, including the 4-5 hours of tailgating outside the stadium before the game, and usually an hour more after the game waiting to get out of the parking lot. Between the barbecue, fires, and a few adult beverages while tailgating, everyone keeps pretty warm and has a good time. Usually in Buffalo going to a game is an all day event. There is an RV lot at the stadium that start filling up on Thursdays for the games on Sundays and Monday. If you have the proper gear you're pretty warm all day, and if you live around the teams that get this type of weather most everyone has their winter gear for just such occasions.

We didn't have lake effect in Denver, we just had good old mile high blizzards. :D But yeah, you describe it perfectly. You're used to the weather so you dress appropriately for it. You can keep really warm if you dress right. And it's beautiful, falling snow does amazing things for sound and light. Camp stoves, bbqs, everyone standing around laughing. Foggy breath in the air. Snowball fights in the stands. Just laughter and joy. And in Denver we had the Barrel Guy who never wore a shirt in like 18 years of games. lol. Saw a bunch of the shirtless crazies in this video too. Football in the snow is just magic. It's like an entirely different game. Even the teams are having more basic fun.

Snow games are the best. They're fun to watch, because even though they players do take it seriously, with snow they know it's not gonna be an easy one and so they also tend to have a little fun too. We used to go out on Thanksgiving as friends and play just pickup games in the snow. Get a good 10 inches of snow and it's an absolute blast. You work up quite a sweat playing in that kinda condition. Snow actually warms things up. It's a really good insulator. Igloos are made of ice but it can easily reach 70F+ inside. It's when the snow stops and the sky clears... THAT is when the temperature is gonna plummet and you get cold. Besides, everyone is jumping up and down and excited and cheering and plenty of hot cocoa. Or as a guy selling in the stands at one cold game as a kid said: "COLD NIGHT, WARM BEER!"

Fortunately the snow held off, but the cold, wet air coming off the harbor was frosting everybody. Ravens won, so Merry Christmas to us, but it was the coldest game I ever attended. Mad respect to the fans in Buffalo, Green Bay, Detroit and Mini, who put up with it on the regular. Now you understand why the Canadian Football League is over by November.

Having a 5 or 6 inches on the field while you are playing a football game is the most fun experience anyone could ever have. Even if it's just a backyard pickup game. I got to play a high school playoff game in the snow and I will remember it forever. Rain is fun, too. Just get muddy as hell and slosh around in the slog then go home and take a hot shower and get a big ol dinner to warm your belly.

The first snow game I watched was the "Ice Bowl". Green Bay against the Cowboys. That last drive of Green Bay was a heartbreaker.

I live in North Dakota, one of the coldest states in the US, I can’t imagine playing in this much less sitting in the crowd 🥶 There’s another video compilation about the coldest games ever played. It includes temperatures. Also imagine, for some of these teams, they come from the south where temps are like 95 F or more (35 C) then the next day, going up north and playing in snow, sometimes in the -degrees. It’s such extremes. But also the opposite can be said. Teams use to playing in 65 F (18 C) then have to play in 95 F or more. Some times those temps can be over 100 F (37 C).

My parents were at the Denver Broncos VS Oakland Raiders playoff game at Mile High Stadium where it was 13F or -10.5C. As I recall, Bronco fans were so excited about the win that would send them to the Super Bowl that they tore down the goal post in all of that snow.

I was legit at the Detroit v Philadelphia game, top row of the East endzone. My Eagles jacket was made for cold weather, it was so warm I had to unzipper it a third of the way, with an inch of snow on my head. Was an awesome game to witness

I went to a game with snow when the Vikings still played at Met Stadium. It's fun as hell. When it's really cold, it sucks. Those Detroit games were in Philadelphia. In the NFL the second/bottom team on the scoreboard is the home team.

Idaho here, but been to ten games in Detroit! Grew up in that city, and you haven't begun to see snow! The worst part isn't the snow,...it's the tornados! 13 in one night in Detroit in the fall of 1985! We had to move to Northern Idaho in order to find more snow!!

I remember when I was in high school in Ohio and playing on the team in this kind of weather. While the game was happening, you had so much adrenaline that you weren’t cold. The people in the stands were freezing their butts off though.

I’m in Buffalo near where the bills play. I think it was around 2000 and Miami came to town and played as a blizzard hit. We called it the snow bowl. It was great.

My wife and I went to a Packers-Lions game at Green Bay, Dec 22, 1990. Lambeau field is an open stadium. No new snow that day. But officially, it was 3 degrees Fahrenheit [-16 C], wind chill 0 Fahrenheit [-18 C], at kickoff. The whole stands were a sea of breath fog. I wore my hunting clothes, boots, double and triple underwear, butt pad. Two ski masks. My breath blew up from inside my ski masks and froze on the inside of my glasses. I went to the bathroom once and cleaned them off, came back to my seat just in time to see Detroit score on a QB draw play, and then I fogged up again. A guy next to me had a giant plastic beer mug. The beer was already slushy-frozen. He knocked it over, it landed upside down at his feet. When he picked the mug back up, the beer just stayed there like a sand castle. Good stiff drink.

I worked at the stadium in buffalo for years and absolutely hated the snow games since we didn't get to at least drink the cold away like the fans. I did catch the famous buffalo/indy game from home since i got snowed in. Was surreal watching, we got 2 feet in the time from the game started to the final whistle.

Buffalo girl, here, and, of course, I'm a huge Bills fan. Snowy games are so much fun to watch and attend. The coldest game I ever went to was in January 1994 with a blistering high temperature of -4 degrees F. I was 13 yrs old and my father made sure that we had lots of layers, hand and foot warmers, hot chocolate, a sleeping bag and were standing on cardboard. Bills beat the Raiders 51-3. :) Go Bills!

players tend not to get injured in the snow, they are moving at much lower speeds than on a perfectly dry field. they don't change direction well, so they rarely cut and risk ankle/knee injuries. and, as many have noted here, playing in the snow is the ultimate conditions when you are a kid playing tackle in the back yard, way too much fun. this was a fun vid, thanks!

I played 4 years of highschool and 4 years of college football, and one of the funnest games I ever played in was an alumni game 10 years after I graduated in 5 inches of snow. It really isn't that bad, unless you are a 2nd team guy on the sideline not playing. That gets cold after a while. You would actually love playing in the snow!

I played football through high school. Snow games and slop games (rain and mud) were so much fun. What is not fun is having a 20mph northeast wind at -15 and mashing your finger between pads or having a hand get stepped on or something like that. It is so cold you get a delayed onset of pain. You know and see what happened, but it's so cold your finger or hand doesn't feel the pain for about 4 or 5 seconds. I hated playing in cold weather because of that. Where I am, we didn't have a ton of snow, or deep snow..... mostly ice and windchill was the issue we played through. Played maybe 5 games from 9-12 grade with snow of a few inches, but that's about it. So much fun.
