I never heard him sing before, I love his way of singing into a key change near the end. I did not care for the backup singers. They sounded like Pentatonix and should be doing a video of their own. I think if David kept it more “unplugged” and no strings, it would have had more impact but is a GREAT cover. He has a wonderful voice. I will try to listen to your other reactions to him.

By FAR, the best version I have ever heard. The first time I heard it, I too was not sure, but I have loved it from the 2nd time hearing it up to now and will continue to do so. The first time through I too was discombobulated by the differences to the original. On the second time listening I realized that David's rendition had exqusitely expressed the deep longing that the words in this song describe. I have to admit that not all of David's stylistic choices appeal to me, but this one hit it out of the park for me. Now I appreciate this song as another superb example of the muscial genius that is David Phelps.

I have to agree that the electronic sounding harmonies were just jarring to me in this song. So wish that he would redo it with more subtle real sounding harmonies in that part. Otherwise, the rest of the arrangement is just superb and his vocals touched me to my core.

First let me say that I'm not familiar with Mr. Phelps. He certainly does have a beautiful voice, however I do not care for this arrangement at all. Unchained Melody is my favorite song, and I have listened to dozens of artists sing (or attempt to sing) this song, including my beloved Elvis. My personal opinion is that Bobby Hatfield will forever own this song, no one has or ever will come close to his live performance.

i most always LOVE anything that David Phelps does but unlike you I did not like how he started out, and to me it was NOT worth the few wonderful minutes at the end! I am a true lover of many versions of UNCHAINED MELODY. I have a list of the ones I like best: 1- Austin Brown, 2- Elvis, 3 - and of course The Righteous Brothers, that is the one that was popular when I was in high school. (1966 - 1970) 4 - The Platters, 5 - Roy Hamilton, 6 - Jonathan Antoine, 7 - Roy Orbison, and I had to put 8 - David Phelps in there somewhere. There is The History of UNCHAINED MELODY on KZbin from who wrote the melody, then who added the lyrics, to the many people who sang it ... There are several versions on the internet and I had No idea how many people recorded this song. Most of the singers & bands I had at least heard of, with the exception of Vito & the Salutations ??? If you have time to look up some of the History, I think you will enjoy it (hopefully)!!!
