WOW. She was such an exceptional singer! I've loved this song for so long. Just now found out it was written by Willie Nelson. Why I couldn't tell is beyond me. Once you hear it, it has Willie all over it. But sung with her heavenly voice.

This era of singers was the last od the great ones. They didn't need special effects to make them sound good. they had a natural voice

That's absolutely ridiculous. What about 70s prog rock, the new wave movement, the punk movement, the development of hip hop in the 80s, reggae and the development of dancehall, 70s country is incredible aswell, you've also got the art pop artists like Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush throughout the 80s, Björk in the 90s. There is just so much you are ignoring
@kristykern18294 жыл бұрын
Honestly this is def the actual recording and the one that is loved amongst everyone is the one with special effects

If anything, musicians are more skilled today than ever. The singers and instrumentalists today can perform some seriously amazing things with no help at all. You're living under a rock if you think great singers only existed in the 60s. It's just a different style.
@thestewlaw2 жыл бұрын
As good as her studio recordings sound, they are NOTHING compared to THE SUBLIME AND FLAWLESS BEAUTY OF her live performances. Not just the subtle voice inflections but her sheer PRESENCE as a woman. Country proper and genteel but with the raw sensuality of a tigress.....Just amazing......Where she might have gone had she lived...

Vocals, yes, but not for the instrument arrangement. When her husband brought Wilie Nelson to their house in the middle of the night to show her the song, she got the way Willie sang/prhased it (Willie always sang with a Blues/Jazz delay phrasing). When they originally went to record it, it threw all the session players off because they weren't used to it. So she went to do a tour and the players recorded the backing. But when they brought Patsy back in, she nailed it first take!

Agreed. The beginning is cut off completely, except for the part where she says, "when I get to be 83". I'm not sure what was said to her before she made that comment because I can't find another recording of this performance anywhere, but the poor woman never even had the chance. She made such a huge impact while she was alive that even after all these years everyone knows her name. It was a life well-lived, even if it tragically ended while she was only 30 years old.
