I have a story to go with this great Patsy song. My dad was a career soldier and his unit, the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment was ordered to Germany in 1959. Germany was a post dependents were allowed so mom and I shipped out of New York for Bremerhaven, Germany, landed, and took a rail car to the American Army Kaserne inLandshut. One day mom and dad took me to the NCO club for dinner and they had a few dances. In between live music, a G.I. walked over and plugged a couple song in the juke box. The second song was , "I Fall to Pieces." I was 8 or 9 and already hooked on music, from the first few notes to the last. I was totally in love with this song. I saw mom today and related that story to her. It all came back when I saw a Patsy C.D. at Wal Mart and bought it. It was the first song I played for mama. Again, I realized, when mama passes away, there won't be one person left on earth I can share a significant part of my life with. Dad passed 5 years ago. I just share with her and she with me, the same memories, same old stories we've heard a thousand times before, but mama's the only one left, I listen out of love

Everything is always good when it's still new and then they milk it to death. Everything seems to have been done with everything now so sadly it's only going to get worse but past music i think is as good as it's going to get. They need to start creating a huge archive of everything for people to go to knowing this, i mean i know youtube is now a kind of archive because all the music is on here but knowing everything created in the past is all the possible things we could do with it we need to create a nice archive of everything for future generations and then monetize it. Even if they made music using artificial intelligence it still won't be as rich or real as everything up until 2005, everything was made to last back then producing it all beautifully but now running on it's last fumes nobody cares anymore so we're doing the right thing going back and listening to all the old stuff. I think we've done enough too giving future generations a lot of quality stuff to fall in love with and enjoy.

I don't know if she ever lived these lyrics, but she certainly comes across as if she is living them! I was only 11 when I learned of her tragic death. My sister and I used to sing at these talent contests (mostly her though) at Country Clubs in California in the mid 70’s. Every time she sang this song or any other Patsy Cline song, she won the contest of about twenty five singers. Of course, she won every contest no matter what she sang anyways. She always had to accept every other week at second place, because you couldn’t win two weeks in a row.

Cline's calm (almost sweet) confessional juxtaposed with the melancholy and somber music, somehow beautifully harmonize the lyrical themes of vulnerability, yearning, and futility. It's absolutely incredible how this song casually narrates despairing emotions (pain, frustration, rejection) in such a loving and tender way. In just two minutes, I know this person. The tune ends. And I am left feeling haunted...mellowly reflecting on those universal experiences of meaningful relationships that end in pieces.
