Ok, I have to comment. I listen to hard rock and alternative rock. Never been a fan of country music, especially the newer kind. But DAMN ... this video, with Patsy's singing, grabbed me from the inside and didn't let go. Moved to tears. What a talent. Thankfully we have her recordings to remind us of what a voice can do, without the tech-driven emotionless junk we hear today.

I agree with everything you have to say here. It’s one thing to be a good performer, but she was such an innovator. I can only image all the young aspiring singers the tried to copy her style to only fail. I’ve always have wondered, that little “dropout” in her voice, was that intentional or just a natural flaw, if you can call it that. If it was a flaw, she mastered it and used it with great effect. Not to mention her impressive vocal range.

You know folks, I once saw a program on Patsy, and the time they were recording "Sweet Dreams". She put so much into it, it just tore her up and she could barely get through it. It took em all night, and the final work was a masterpiece. She totally excelled and exceeded her country roots, and country could not contain her - so she just took country with her and made some of the best music ever heard, which still lights up this ole world.

I was 13, when Patsy passed on. We always watched the country music shows on WSM (NBC) tv station. Back then WSM had a monoply on country music shows, except for the Eddie Hill morning show on WLAC (CBS). Patsy Cline had spots on all those WSM shows. I remember seeing the news about it on tv and the article on the front page on the Nashville Tennessan. It made me so sad, because even at 13 I thought she had such a beautiful voice.

What made Patsy Cline the singer that she was was that deep, emotional range in her voice. Just love it. No one else in country music had that kind of depth. When she perished in the '63 plane crash, it was country's version of "the day the music died." What a blow.

She could sing any damn thing and make you feel it...BUT...when she goes into a ballad, it's as if the day God decided to make Patsy Cline, he was in such misery, pain and loneliness the kind that darkens a soul that his only way out of that darkness was to create a voice that could reach right into your very spirit and drag it into the light.

Patsy Cline being one of them. Now that im older i still listen to her. My wife whom didnt listen to a lot of country music but listen to hip hop started listening to Patsy and fell in love with her song. When we got married i dedicated Patsy's True Love to her. She certainly did. They couldn't keep her in Country, so by God, she took Country with her, bring it to a whole nother level, none have attained since. She is a true Southerner. Once, at Carnegie Hall in New York City, some Duchess, Countess er something was in the audience, and she was flabbergasted, all excited, like a little girl! You could hear it in her voice when she announced it. If I were there, and could whisper in her ear, I would have told her, "Patsy, it's sweet, you showin' her the proper respect and all, but you outrank her, and by quite a bit".

@@carolynsmith8502 Carolyn, first of all, I'm honored that anyone from Patsy Cline's family would ever write to me so a big thank you! Wow. I'm one of those people who do not like country music at all but I can listen to Patsy Cline all day long. Often times singers have brilliant voices but if the songs aren't there magic doesn't happen. Yes, there are great singers like Barbra Sreisand, Karen Carpenter, Whitney Houston, and Anne Murray but there's this ineffable quality to Patsy Cline that sets her apart from the rest. The only singer I would put at the same level is Billie Holiday. Both Patsy and Billie captured the soul of a country and set it to music. I loved learning how Patsy hated singing the torch songs but loved the honky tonk songs. That was a revelation. Thank you too for educating me about Patsy. I've watched both documentaries about her life and they were both fairly awful. Hopefully someday film will do justice to her remarkable career. I'm reaching out to you through my computer screen and give you a big hug!

I was born in 1959, so I knew of her very early in my life. My parents would play her albums and I would sing to them. As I got older, I appreciated her music even more. When the movie, Sweet Dreams was out at theaters.... she inspired me thru her strength in mind, body and spirit! I have had my share of heartaches that she's seen me thru, but one of the few good memories I have of my ex David is when he keyed up his cb-radio and everyone on channel 23, heard me singing along with the late great Patsy Cline. I didn't know everyone was listening until I was finished singing and people were saying great job and was asking who it was. I was embarrassed but proud too, when he told them all it was me! She was a legend in her own time, but I think she would be truly amazed as to what extent she is revered. Sweet dreams and R.I.P. Patsy Cline.

Where do I start.....Patsy Cline was perhaps the greatest singer in the world....She was the Elvis Presley of our time ....She and Presley were the two most influential singers of the century. Presley made Rock music acceptable- Cline made Country music "available" to everyone who had never heard anything quite like her..she could do a Hillbilly Hayride and a week later do Carnegie Hall in New York....she was magic....She died in a horrible plane crash in 1961 I think and her voice is still not replaced in Nashville....there was and will be no one quite as good as Patsy....ever.

My grandfather was a huge fan of country and I would hear him listening to patsy on his radio on the porch. My grandmother was a big gospel type and sang in the church choir. So gospel is what was played on the stereo most of the time. Cline was big. A small but maybe unknown footnote is that she was popular among black folks, most of who refused to listen to country because at that time would not sign black artists. Even Ray Charles who started playing gospel and country couldn’t not do a country record until he was a huge star, and it was against what the label wanted. Northern whites distanced themselves from country music that was seen as unsophisticated. Yet she crossed over anyway. Once in a lifetime voice. Been listening to all types of music for 52 years. I’ve heard them all and nobody sounds like these artists....Karen Carpenter, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Freddie Mercury...and Patsy Cline. Ironically, only Franklin lived past 40. Angels sent to leave their gifts then get called back.

This music is appropriate. Today, we have children and teenagers listening to foul mouth rap. This is clean and wonderful music. Since I was 9 years old, I have been listening to Patsy. This is the kind of music we need. Even modern-day country is becoming far to inappropriate. Patsy has been my favorite number one singer.

Her records were live performances which is not done today, can't be done today. No truer words have been spoken. The only effects Patsy ever used were her very own vocal cords. Somewhere there are voices just as good as Patsy's but they are not famous because they are not "sexy" enough. What a shame.

I'm sure, had she lived, she would have been a legend anyway. But there's nothing like death to make someone a bigger Legend. I think sometimes why did she have to die so young. So sad & tragic. But maybe it was written in the stars. it was her destiny. What a Vocalist and interpreter of a Song. They'll never be another Patsy. Least we have her Songs, Legacy & that Voice. In that way, she hasn't died

Her voice soars like no other. She swoops, then she soars. One minute, you in a valley and the next, you're almost in Heaven itself. The only other singer on par with her, at least in this galaxy, if not this Universe is Aretha Franklin - also a Southerner. There are no others like her, so don't go a-lookin', but if you do, and find one, please let us know. And yes, she is holler worthy. What a true gift to this life!
