Joanna Lumley is utterly brilliant as Patsy. She has played so many straight characters over the years. Who would have known what a brilliant comic actor she is? The whole cast is strong, but Patsy is hilarious.

She did a series called "A class act". The character could so easily have been another Patsy, but Joanna played it so well that you never once thought of Patsy. In fact the character in Class Act is a slightly worse person because she isn't a vacuous, drink and drunk stewed shallow fashionista.

How true. I actually found Saffy immensely condescending of everyone. Even her grandmother and father on occasion. Eddy was self evident what she was, it was all to see and she never really pretended she was something else whereas Saffy thought she was morally superior to practically everyone.

She's the comedic straight man who also highlights to actual tragedy of her situation. You can't blame her for feeling like that when her mother and Patsy have basically neglected her her entire life

OMG -- in my opinion that's one of the best scenes in the whole show. The way Saffy's face becomes horrified when she realizes how old Patsy actually is, & when her grandmother walks by her bedroom when she's feeling Patsy up & they're both laughing... that scene still KILLS ME every time. One of the funniest episodes ever! 🤣

It doesn’t make me feel sorry for Patsy. Plenty of people who have been through hard times aren’t abusive. Patsy is horrible. She drinks too much. She uses Eddie. She physically and emotionally tortures Sarah. She treats Saffy appallingly.

@@XX-gy7ue I said "It was until the Last Shout, then it was mostly rubbish". Every episode before and including The Last Shout was golden, completely classic. Series 2 especially was the highlight, not a single foot wrong. Genius. Had they ended it at Last Shout it would now be as legendary as Fawlty Towers. But they all needed money so Jennifer Saunders kept making more and now Ab Fab is mainly remembered as a mildly funny show only really beloved by gay men. The show died when it entered the 2000s, it had some great moments (IS IT A BEE?) but generally it became a cringey cartoon version of its 90s self with over-reliance on terrible characters (Bo and Marshall were horrendous, and what was Jennifer Saunders thinking when she wrote John, Saffy's husband???) and really, REALLY bad guest stars. Emma Bunton stands out, the woman can't act yet somehow became a regular. The 2012 specials in particular were cringe from start to finish. And the movie was... just meh. Find me any post Last Shout episode that you truly think matches the greatness of episodes like Morocco or France or Death. Patsy and Eddy should have stayed in the 90s where they belonged. And I know lots of fans agree with everything I just wrote.

But seriously, do you think episodes like Parralox, Menopause, Schmoozin or that absolutely horrible Olympic special episode match episodes like Death, Hospital, France or Last Shout? Absolutely Fabulous, Little Britain and The Catherine Tate Show are my go to sitcoms. My mother was from England and perhaps that’s why I’m so drawn to these shows. American sitcoms don’t hold a candle to these. Just my opinion.

One Foot in the Grave is so underrated. How the writer can cram so many twists into a single episode and make it dark, funny and often shocking with such a mundane premise is genius. It’s great you like British shows, although I will say that, when everyone was Friends mad (which never appealed to me), I absolutely loved Cybill (& still do). It was like a grown up version of a lot of the cheesy American sitcoms of the 90’s and often had more sincere, heartfelt and even darker moments.
