Joanna Lumley gets hired for interesting roles because she really is a very good (and interesting) actress. this is something that cannot be said about a lot of "beautiful" actors who allow themselves to become pigeonholed to the point that they can only hand in lackluster performances as lackluster characters for fear of displacing a hair or otherwise damaging their "beautiful" facade. she was stellar in "Jam and Jerusalem", and i was several episodes in before i even realized that it was her. holy cow!

I've noticed how often nowadays you hear young British people using American vocabulary. This is not surprising as the English of the internet is overwhelmingly American as the USA is such a big and influential country. Young British people are under a tsunami of American English on social media. This is another example. "Patsy Stone Shocks Everyone By Eating a Potato Chip". Of course, in the UK we call them 'crisps' and not 'potato chips'. Well, at the moment we do, I have no doubt we'll be calling them potato chips soon. No doubt somebody would say that American viewers wouldn't understand unless you used their terminology. I would say they don't understand anything but American English because they don't hear anything else enough and people avoid using non-American expressions when talking to them. Here we have a British scene from British TV on BritBox avoiding British terms. This just stops Americans from ever learning!!!
