As a newbie in 2018, I had a gf in Pattata (who worked in Central Festival) who I spent a few holidays with, but I never supported her at all apart from paying for everything when together of course. Buying dinner for her sister and son was ok, but when she asked me to buy her I car (she couldn't drive) I decided to move on.

It's almost all true what Daz said in this video. I just want to add to something which is based on my own experience. The girls who can scam you, are not all working in the bars. I was targeted by an Airbnb host (well educated, no drinker, fluently English speaker, GOOD GIRL!!) but the same story. Looking for love or a stable relationship in Pattaya is close to impossible. Watch for the red flags, don't be irrational and be honest with yourself. Good luck.

This is a very good video and any newbies visiting Pattaya should take it in.The level of attention these girls can give you can be overwhelming and cause guys to lose there head. I first visited in the 1980 s and was instantly hooked. After 4 years and alot of fun i met a girl and 30 years later we're still together so it can work out, If you want a long term relationship in Thailand there are no short cuts, spend as much time as you can out there, learn the culture and at least some of the language and look beyond Pattaya. Even then you'll need some luck.

Impressive honest story. I've been to Thailand about 40 times since 1989 and apart from some minor incidents like Go Go bar girls who didn't keep their appointments I've never actually been ripped off. Of course it is also that I only came for short-term contacts and fun in bars with as many beautiful and nice girls as possible. Ladies who tried a little more, which happened regularly when I was quite young, quickly noticed that I was the worst butterfly around and quickly slid off.

It is an interesting point you raise regarding dress and money. Personally, I wouldn't be seen dead in a Chang vest. It may be easy to meet a lady in Pattaya, but I still like to dress nice for the conditions. Just a confidence thing. And it DOES make a difference. I like to think I know the game, but I still play the 'newbie' when asked certain questions. I stay for 2 months, I know Thailand but not Pattaya, etc etc. BTW @8.50 is stunning!

Hi Daz ! The same did happen to me during my younger days when I was still single and I did go to the village to meet the family and had a great reception party but not quite as fancy as what you had described and did pay for everything too. The question was then raised in the family that why don't we get married and settle in the village since we apparently seemed in love and well matching. To make a long story shot, I respectful apologized that it was not possible for some legal reasons from where I come from. In the end, I did maintain the relationship for couple of years during my trips to Thailand and eventually it all had to die off peacefully over time after meeting other similar entertaining new friends. I guess my honesty and straightforwardness did in the end paid off. All in all, as of this day, I remain with a lot of respect to all those thai girls whom are in this business. It is tough out there and it is the only option they have. Please do play safe always, and I fully agree with the advice given herein.

I date a girl who studied hard at college to become an accountant and holds down a good job. Its a very different expirence dating an educated non bar girl. Pattaya should really be a relationship no go zone. I stuck loads of crew in taxis and sent them down from Laem Chabang for some R&R with my words of wisdom still ringing in their ears but its often to no avail. The biggest problem is guys arrive green and are just not used to the attention and equate it to love. When their little head takes charge all common sense goes out of the window.

I think the danger is if you meet a Thai girl who is very bright and speaks really good English. A rare breed, I realise. On both counts. It must be really tricky in Philippines. Excellent English and more educated. That last bit couldn't be easier. Not only is there the category of man who has had a bad marriage. There is also the type of bloke who is clueless with women and has had no success with them in his own country. Then there's the type who has had an impressive track record with them but just can't settle down: he's in need of perpetual excitement. Interesting place, Pattaya. All forms of life are there. I'm sorry to say that I've fallen for all of the stuff in this video & more besides. Looking back down the years, here are my notes: I'm a nice guy. I care about others' lives & I see that women in Thailand are often in a desperate situation through no fault of their own. I realise I've been luckier than them through no virtue of my own. This makes me want to help. I don't at all look down on her because she sells sex. Seems harmless to me. Any guilt seems misplaced. I want to respect her family and I want to respect Thai culture. I'm shocked at the misery that her family lives in & I want her sick mum to be able to live out her last years in dignity. After that, the new house will be our retirement home. I regard marriage as being forever; us against the world; we can work through our problems together. These are my personal traits that made me trusting and vulnerable. At first, she was very grateful & loving but later it was as if she developed mental illness & became grasping, cold and nasty. Looking back, I know that she was all along a crazy woman who would say & do whatever came into her head. She was struggling to keep a lid on her chaotic personality but I was confident that my love was strong enough to calm the demons of anxiety inside her. I was wrong. Those demons are the real her. I realise that by writing this I'm opening myself to ridicule & I can accept that if it helps even one man avoid what I and our children have been through. Do not be a nice guy in Thailand. Do not believe she really loves you. Just play along for a little while the going is good. Thai women regard marriage as a temporary expedient which brings status, security & money but is easily shaken off when they want to.

Was married to a Thai for 7.5 years in US. Met her in Thailand, together 9 years. Married, own a small tech company and no prenup. Divorced in 2019, she wanted NOTHING, not even alimony. I gave her a smaller chunk of money, she did not get a lawyer even though I told her she could. All the negative comments here, please know there are good women there. Her family still loves me and they do not ask for money. I would help them in an instant as I would my X-wife. I speak decent Thai and even have my motorcycle in Udon at the family home. Spot on analysis and sound advice. I have to admit that I am in the early stages of a similar saga. I am supporting my girlfriend, who makes protestations of undying love hourly on WhatsApp, but I have told her I will not get married again. Fortunately she has no parents to support although she does have a young child. I am going back to Thailand in September for a month or more, but I don’t think I will relocate permanently (no viable health insurance). So I will probably end up breaking it off. But you are absolutely right that the thought of her having to go back to work is distressing, since she is not young - 39 years old. But if I end up staying in Thailand and she starts to insist on getting married or buying a house for her, that would be a deal breaker for me. At the moment my support for her living expenses is coming from my modest pension, but I have no intention of dipping into my savings. Anyhow, thanks for trying to keep me on the straight and narrow.

I've lived in Thailand for about 2 years in 2004-2006 and felt it was generally very safe apart from being present during an insurgent attack in Hat Yai. Luckily, I just got a shrapnel wound in my forearm. Unfortunately some weren't so lucky. Something like an attack is out of my control although I think it occurs on annual basis in the South and sometimes BKK. Fast forward to about a Month ago. I just returned from a trip to Colombia. Although I felt safe there too and the people were kind like Thais, there are stories of foreigners ( and even Colombians) getting drugged, robbed, and beaten by women they pick up in bars. I've heard of similar stories in Thailand but they're very rare and in my experience the women were all sincere and kind, however you need to keep in mind cultural norms and also can't be naive. By the way, some Thai women would say that the 'Man needs to always pay'. In my experience this is partly a Thai norm, however it can be BS sometimes and you need to be subjective. I did meet some Thai women that were educated in the West ( and even locally educated) and we would split the bill sometimes. The problem I have with the 'Man always Pays' is that it can be perceived that they are taking advantage. Maybe someone can educate us on this so-called 'Norm'? Lastly, if you want a girlfriend there it's best to find one out of the bar scene. I understand it's more difficult as a tourist but if you live there you eventually will.

i wasnt far away when in Bangkok Ekkamai the bomb went off. I mean, far enough away, like 1 km, but it cold have been different easily since i was roaming around there some hour earlier. "Man always pays", i dont know... I had luck with women in Thailand. Mine was working in an office and there is lot she paid, tbh. Maybe more than me over time. There are there, also in Thailand.

Happened to me but my marriage was real. No sinsod but a Honda B-RV and plenty of money given. I stopped long before I ran out of money but still it was enough. Learned my lesson. Love the new Soi Made in Thailand. Many have been rented out. A live stream bar owner talked about how she already rented out one to open another bar.

Great video Daz! I've lived in SEA countries since 05, and hate to see guys get ruined over punani. It's all a big game to get your dough, and YES, the girl's parents want it too, so they can show off to their neighbors in Isaan. I'd advise finding hobbies other than - or in addition to drinking/f***ing, and just CHILL. When you need to bust a nut, simply go to a GC or beer bar, and p-for-p...then back to watching a good movie at home with some insane pizza, or other home delivered chow, or working on something (I like writing, exercise, and producing digital music)....and bonus - you can stretch out on your bed, without worrying about the girl possibly getting up to pee during the night, and kyping your watch or something. Relax, because the punani is omnipresent...it's not going anywhere Thats just my 10 baht. ;-)
