@Ash Unitt I live a few miles away from where the patterdale started my dad and grandfather new Brian Nuttall so I've always had a patterdale I've got one at 11yrs old hes been out chasing squirrels this morning he's now laid on his back at minute snoring these are the best and bravest breed ever

My patterdale was crossed with a poodle. She was a beautiful sweet natured loving dog with a lot of funny querks. She passed last week aged 13. Miss her so much!

I have a Patterdale x Standard Manchester, adopted at 1 1/2 years old. She was shelter raised with no training or socialization. About 7 months with her, she finally started listening to me, now she is gaining skills rapidly. VERY smart, but a bit stubborn. Still working on reactivity and incosistant recall. She's almost 2 1/2 years old now. I wouldn't recommend this breed if you are not willing to train long term and have patience, but as far as loyalty and affection, they are stellar!

My girl was a Russel/Patterdale mix. Best little dog in the world! Super cuddly and friendly with a great taste for learning and adventure. I really, really miss her.

I lost a staffyxjackrussell in April 2022, I of course said no more dogs. We bought our puppy in September 2022. A tiny brown jack russell, or so we thought, she is a quarter Patterdale, a gorgeous little girl now 14 months old. I'm sorry you lost your dog, it's heartbreaking, it's worth remembering that when another one comes along it's not a replacement but a compliment to your dog that they were so good that you could not be at home without one. This past year has been such hard work, but getting there now, lol, she's a handful but very very chilled out, I don't know if that's the Patterdale in her I've never seen a jack russell that chilled. Was so so sceptical about getting her, but glad we did, she's given me a gentle intro to the Patterdale with their crinkly puppy heads and those ears that are always turning inside out, she has a fine beard and moustache too. I don't know if you got another dog, but wish you the best whatever you decided.

It's refreshing to find a KZbin channel with someone who actually understands what "drives" this class of dogs' behaviors. So much bad information out there about "working" breeds, especially those classified as the "pitbull" breeds. I'd like to encourage you to post more videos that explain the basics of "prey" and "defense" drive versus aggression. Thanks for your channel.

I grew up with terriers and have been around them all my life and had never even heard of the Patterdale...UNTIL I saw a photo of a dog who looked just like mine (I thought she was just some sort of terrier mix- we've been calling her a "teacup werewolf"). Same stature, face, coat, everything. She may be mixed with a different terrier as well but there's definitely a Patterdale Terrier in there!

You definitely need to be an experienced dog owner I got mine at 6months old from a rescue home and he had no training at all it took me 12 months and his balls off to get him how they should be and now he's 11 and he's perfect he still thinks he's as big as a horse and can fight like a lion theve got to be the bravest breed

My Patterdale was beautiful he even found my daughters hamster when it escaped , he brought it into the lounge and dumped it on the carpet in front of us! The VET warned me that he could be vicious towards other animals but this was the evidence we needed to show us he was soft with other smaller animals it's a pity it was not the same with our other dog a cross Lakeland/Jack Russel as they would fight over almost everything! But they were both looked after and loved and separated kindly but firmly! Both have now died and my dog loving days are over for now as of the grief I felt when they parted seemingly together at ripe old ages! The well looked after Patterdale is one of the most intelligent and fun loving dogs I have seen and it's highly recommended for families with children.

Yup, got two crazy girls, haha! Not sure if it's just my area but I live in the US and not many people know this breed, even the Vets we went to had never worked with Patterdales before. Hell, we didn't even know what a Patterdale was when we adopted them - just saw that they were cute puppies and took them. People at the dog parks always mistaken them for lab puppies.

Interestingly the US Authority recognises the Patterdale as a Breed but in the UK they are a ‘Type’. I’ve inherited one from my uncle (rather than a nice watch or property) and she was a working dog throughout - found living feral, I think because the ‘terrier men’ didn’t manage to dig her out of a fox hole; going underground after foxes was their original purpose in the Lake District. Spent a lot of time then running behind Beagles (with no real purpose) and hunting mink. Always a loving companion but a Natural Born Killer - as others have said don’t let the cute bat face deceive you; great dog if you really know dogs.

Bodhi is my 4th dog in my life , 1/2 Greyound & 1/2 Patterdale . Black/Brown, Long Legs medium size, long tail 48 lbs all muscle , greyhound chest cage , allot of patterdale in him , Digger , Hunter and Fast.

Our dog is a rescue and we were told she is a Patterdale cross. She’s twice the weight of a classic Patterdale but she looks the same as a black smooth coat. One difference is her chest is deeper ( more like a greyhound). Think she must be crossed with a greyhound-like dog, something a bit smaller perhaps. Anyway awesome dog, great fun 👍😀

They won't fight in yard much unless over food but they will fight in small areas like rooms or cars if left alone

I've had 2 Patterdales Busby died at age 5 with a tumour And I've got Anna who is 16 Yr old and still with me They are so loving loyal intelligencent and have no fear I'd recommend one from a puppy to rescue Anna was a rescue

There definitely are not 11 to 13lbs I've got an 11yr old male and he's 30 lbs (not fat) but I've seen loads of males around the 20 lbs Mark I've got a 9 month male and he's 17 lbs so he will end up being 20 to 23 lbs i no my 30 lbs one is a freak I've seen plenty as tall but none as thick set he's the Arnold of patters

@@patterdale4332 He must be some other breed in there as well, we span them, put your hands under his chest and touch your thumbs behind it's back give or take a few inches, there's no way you'll span a 30lb Patterdale, he'd not be capable of functioning as a Patterdale.

@@hetrodoxly1203 hes just a freak all dog breeds have them I've still got his dad who's nearly 15 he was 23lbs at his prime my friend owned his mum she was only small and they were both nuttall patterdales if your ever in Yorkshire come and meet him have a look then for yourself like I told you hes just huge for a patterdale all dog breeds throw a giant one out now and again just like humans

@@patterdale4332 It does happen as Brian's dogs are notoriously small for Patterdales as well, i regularly pass through Yorkshire on my way down from the Fells, i did win the great Yorkshire show with one of my dads dogs in the 70s.
