Your Patterdale Terrier is a wondrous creature. Very much enjoyed your video. I'm in California and cannot find a Patterdale. I remain on the lookout. Would love to see more of your canine companion and you. Thank you.

Yeah no offense but your out of luck they are from the north of Britain and very few are in America, I own a patterdale and I would recommend buying a north eastern patt, as they are quite common and are quite well priced (try some dog websites maybe you get some luck

After not knowing what breed our dog was for years this video helped us learn who our dog Midnight really is. Thank you so much today waste first time we've ever heard of Patterdale Terriers. We thought she might be part Mountain Feist, however she is a spitting image of many Patterdales we've just seen. I'm 95% sure now, was considering a DNA test, may still do it but once again thank you!

Fantastic. She's a beauty. We rescued a red Patterdale 18 months ago and had to do a lot of work with her. She didn't even know the sit command and so far as we can tell was a working dog. She's in hunt mode whenever we walk her and have to take her to an enclosed field in order to let her off the lead. We're still working with her and she's fine with people and kids despite some mistreatment and she's taken to domestic life very well. She has no food aggression but she has had a bit of a bad time with other dogs and consequently we have to manage her contact with other dogs. If the other dog is playful and very friendly she goes in for a telling off. If the other dog is doing the silent stare down she makes no sound but flies in for the throat. An off the lead Yorkie Terrier went for her last year and she beat him up. It's only if other dogs approach her and she's never going crazy at the end of the lead trying to get to them.

These dogs are super are super aggressive. Please don't think that this breed can mingle with other dogs easily like other breeds. It's specifically designed and developed by man to go down to holes latch and lock onto fox/quarry, and not let go until dug too. This dog was designed because the jack russell terrier in most cases is too soft and will bay or bark at quarry more times then none as opposed to a padderdale. You must treat or think of them as a mini pitbull. You'll come to learn that by listening to their grunts when playing with them. They are fearless and will even die in a hole latched onto their pray. They are unforgiving dogs. These can be house pets, but please keep all of this in the back of your head when situations like strange dogs come up.

How do you train your dog to stay near you? I had a jagd terrier - min pin mix. He was always in search for a hole in the fence. Once out of the backyard he would run away at full speed. Several times he roamed around the town for days until I found him. Last month he ran away again and I think we'll not see him again. I always wanted a dog which can be unleashed somewhere in a field, just like in the video and all I want from my dog is to respond to only one command - "come back". What should I do? Do you have any advice?

work with a trainer - recall is one of the first skills your dog should learn - and they learn it by positive methods - repetition, practice this recall skill every day - only 5 minutes at a time. Never call your dog to you for any type of punishment - call them with a happy voice and give them a small reward each time - they learn this skill very quickly. Then, build on that skill with sit/down/stay/leave it, etc. - teaching multiple commands trains their minds to obey the command without thinking. It works.

This is amazing. I just discovered mine is a Patterdale and I could never let her off leash because she'd run away. How long did it take to train her to obey you? My dog looks exactly like yours. Her name is River.

Lovely one! They are really big dogs in a tiny package! @ Steve Maggers: Don´t give up! They need consequence and a real "leader of the pack!". When my female Patty was young, she was asking me 200 times, if i mean things, as I told her. And then again 20 times, if I´m really sure! Now, she is the best Dog in the world. Hunting is in her blood. As a young dog she liked fighting and playing with all other dogs, but now she is 4 and she is an alpha. No other female dog (puppy or old) is accepted and as you wrote: flies in for the throat ore face! thats what the breeder told me, before I bought her. The only chance: Go with the person with the other dog. Both with the leashes in the same direction as a pack. After a little time they go the same way an accept the other. Works most of time!

Eeee lad! You must have the patience of a saint! 😂 Our first lad died aged 16, 4 years ago. He was pure Patterdale from working parents (a hunt near Pewsey, Wiltshire). In time, we reached a sort of 'entente' but never had a fraction of the teamwork displayed here. Very much my fault for being too lax, re' discipline and obedience early on (had him from 7 weeks old). Now have Dex. 4 years old Pat X Frenchie (! 😲) A lock down dog, stupid bastards with no idea about animals never socialised him, exercised him, let him off lead, overfed him and worst, tormented him in countless ways for their own amusement. Finally, once the novelty had worn off, he was rehomed... 4 TIMES!🤬🤬🤬 Each time he was passed along because his behaviour was too challenging 😤 HE'S A PATTERDALE, FFS! NOT A TOY! Now lives in West Yorkshire, Holme Valley. Living 'his best life', he has firm, consistent leadership, permanent companion (I'm retired) and his days consist of long country walks OFF THE LEAD, sprint ball games, sleeping, love and cuddles and proper, nutritious food. He's gradually leaving behind the issues he developed during his formative years and becoming a settled, happy lad. The last thought. MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME 👍👍👍

My Patterdale is a dog and he's very naughty, he is very intelligent and will speak for a biscuit or give me his paw, but I can't let him off the lead in a park or anything as soon as he sees another dog he's off and no amount of calling will get him back :( have trained him with a clicker, he's a very good dog except for the most important part actually coming to me when he needs to :( your dog is lovely :) give her a biscuit for me cheers :) p.s I see her jaw gnashing, mine does that as well someone told me it's something to do with their smelling.

My patterdale would destroy the ball before you could tell him to leave it alone! He's a rescue dog and I'm fairly sure he was a working dog but all I do know is that he's very protective of his new pack! Grrrrrr. Plus the farmers around my parts are wankers who don't like you on their fields, even if they're just stubble fields...with lots of rats and pheasants in the hedges! A real struggle keeping him off the fields I'll tell ya!

Wtf, you have a "beloved" pet and you're irresponsible enough to let it harm another creature that is a beloved pet. You shouldn't have one, they are incredibly intelligent and if you had consideration and intelligence you would utilize your dog's abilities instead of allowing that. You should not own an animal
