Hint: Brush Creator window (not just for changing the maximum brush size btw)

Steve, I believe you can increase the size of the pastel brush in the Brush Creator, under Shape, where it says Max size in pixels. For instance, the default for the Round Soft brush is 200 pixels, which can be made as large as 700 pixels. Also, to blend colors, you can use brush 3 for Paint & Blend (the little brush symbols under Opacity), which I believe blends more like physical pastels.

Nice work ! Always hard to improve on a great photo but mediocre photos paradoxically can be more interesting to work with. Out of interest why did you choose red for the paper colour ?

Hi Brian, red is complementary to green, so it adds a vibrancy to the painting where the red shows through
