Thank you. You are a wonderful teacher. :) Even though this is not a T-shirt. This information is excellent to get a start on garment drafting. I look forward to getting stuck in. I do not have a set square yet. I will see where I can get a good sized one. So far what I did was buy a small child's T-Shirt at a thrift shop (To make the copy from). The reason for this was to reduce the material cost, support a charity, and have a source of very cheap material that I can learn on. I am really looking forward to making my own simple T-shirts. Take care.

Thank you so much. I still remember learning it at college. My best advice is to understand the basics then just keep drafting and making up in cheap fabric or calico and try things out. Rip out seams and slash pattern pieces just to see what can be done. Experience is what matters. I have recently been scrutinising and testing methods in many of the current books on pattern cutting just for my own interest. I'm amazed by all the different methods and also the very differing results!

You can use "freezer paper" that has the shinny surface to draft patterns or even make copies of patterns. Use the regular paper side to draft on as the shinny side is not very cooperative to write in. The advantage is that if you want to have a stiff copy for extended lasting you can iron it on to an additional cut of freezer paper.
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 4 жыл бұрын
You can print my patterns on to any kind of paper that is either A4 or Letter size. You can even use lightweight card. Any media that your printer takes. We don't get freezer paper in the UK as far as I know but yes, that sounds like a good idea.

Hi, I really love your videos, and I am already _so_ grateful for your efforts, and because of that I don't know if I'm asking too much, but when you display values in your videos, could you make two columns, one for inches, etc, and one for metric values? Thanks a lot for this channel though!
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 9 жыл бұрын
Devo Castler Hi Devo, yes this would be a good idea. I know I should concentrate more on metric as I am in the UK. I don't get many complaints though and of course the US still work in inches. I do refer to metric in places but I will try to include more measurement conversions. Thank you so much for commenting and for feedback.

It would be helpful to have info on how to take measurements and what points on the body those measurements match up with. I used measurements from a book on drafting and the terms didn't match up. Since the patterns overlapped by several inches when I measured the front shoulder line, I knew things had gone terribly wrong. But I don't see any info to help me corolate terms.

@glynishigham1893
@glynishigham1893 8 жыл бұрын
brilliant video, very easy to understand,. also can i ask, when and how do you add any "ease" into the pattern and how much ease should i add, thanks in advance
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 8 жыл бұрын
Hello Glynis, There is a difference between wearing and design ease. Wearing ease is factored into the sloper when it is drafted so for an average size, close fitting block, the most important consideration is the ease at bust level which is at least 4”/10cm, that’s 2” on the half pattern. There should be at least 3” or 1½” on the half pattern ease at the hips. Everything else can be considered design ease. You may like to draft blocks with design ease added as well. If you want a basic jacket block for example, you would add extra ease to accommodate garments underneath, you would increase the ease at bust and hips, you would draft a lower under arm point, have a wider sleeve and extend the shoulder point. So it is quite difficult to be prescriptive about design ease as it all depends on the style and the garment’s purpose in life. I hope that helps a little. Ultimately it is about trying things out using cheaper fabric and gaining experience. Thank you so much for your interest in my videos and good luck with your projects.

Hello Angela 1st i would like to thank you for taking the time to make all the videos. i am about to start out on my journey of trying to make my own clothes. and all so for my family members if i get any good at it. i am spending time gathering bits and bobs that i hope will help me with this venture. i have on order a french curve and a hip curve. But i would like to ask you about your set square. it looks like it has metric and imperial on it and would like to ask you do you know where i can get the same one. i was following your every move and could see what a boom your set square is for this job. i know if i keep watching the videos and stopping and starting it i will be able to follow you and hopefully i will have a work in progress at the end of it. i will be going out tomorrow to see if i can get some paper for drafting. Thank you again so much. i now feel like i have a chance of doing this. x

Thank you so much for paying attention to my little question! I visited your suggested link, but the available one from the store was metric only. However, thanks to you, I now know that it is called a "graders set square," I further searched and found one that has both cm and inches: www.eastmanstaples.co/index.php/combination-graders-square.html. I'm a big fan of Natalie Bray. I studied pattern cutting in the 70s and it was essential reading! I use many references and of course my experience over the years for developing my patterns. Most pattern drafting books are quite difficult to follow. I try to make my methods easy for beginners but also useful for pattern cutters/designers generally. Thank you so much for subscribing.

I appreciate your videos, been a subscriber for over a year. Quick question please, where's the link to watch how to draft a fitted bodice? I mean with waist darts and all. Meanwhile, great job. You make it easy.

Hi, I haven't produced a video yet of the fitted bodice but it is on my list. It is included in my eBook series but I do intend to put a version out for free on KZbin - hope you can wait. angelakane.com/sewing_ebooks Thank you so much supporting my site.

Now this series is free, I have included the link in places but you may have missed it. The variables are on this page - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/pattern-cutting/ Thank you so much for your comment!

Do I need a thick GSM paper for pattern cutting?
@kiranjitkaur2301
@kiranjitkaur2301 3 жыл бұрын
Not really I have a roll of paper that’s like printing paper not thick at all. Average thickness and it works. You can also use newspaper tbh 😂

The best paper to use is pattern cutting paper which you can buy on a roll and last for ages. You can also buy sheets. I prefer the plain but it is often marked off in dots and crosses to give you a metric guide. The stiff manilla card is used for blocks or a final pattern that you are going to be using often. You draw around it onto your pattern paper for adapting your block. You will find suppliers on my page - angelakane.com/sewing-supplies/

Thanks for all. I hope you'll enjoy your life and work. Please provide me with men's classic shirt patterns size 18 inches

An 18" collar is a 54" chest for a man's shirt. My man's cut shirt pattern is aimed at women and my sizes only go up to 44" bust. I hope to add more patterns for men in the future.

Lupe Esparza I am using old tracing paper stuck together with sellotape. When completed I will stick it onto the back of some wallpaper I found in a roll

Hi Angela I'm looking for how to make a back curve in the middle of the back pattern?
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 7 жыл бұрын
Do you mean more shaping for a hollow back? You can easily take a curve out of the back seam at the fitting stage.

Raquel Dixson You should try again, but maybe with simpler projects. starting off with pattern making is scary for a beginner, especially if you don't have a teacher answering all your questions. Working with stretchy fabrics (like stuff in t-shirts and bodycon dresses) will be easier because theyre forgiving of mistakes. Starting there will be easier as a result. I reccommend Annika Victoria or WithWendy for some beginner tutorials. Annika has a website with other easier tutorials as well. I really hope you give sewing another go
