Great to have the walk through even though I know how to do it. Great precision and detail. The only question is why inches?! It’s hard isn’t it? We were pushed into metric decades ago but I still think in inches for measurements of bust, waist, hips! It’s a nightmare when you’re buying rulers. I’ve got metric as that’s the way of the UK. Could you perhaps give both cm and inches in future videos. Our American friends are inches. So I can see why you’d want to include both systems. I’ve spent a small fortune on pattern drafting rulers recently. All in cm. I hate it but I just had to decide one or the other. Maybe you’d kindly give us both measurements on future videos. Thank you so much. Fabulous tutorials Angela. I’m addicted ❣️

Hi Nicola, Thank you so much for your comment. It is so appreciated. Have you seen my later metric version? - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5DLnmiPgb-Ueq8 - It is in three parts. Actually I think you are right. It would be better to have both in one tutorial, so I will be doing that. The pattern cutting tutorials have been very popular and I enjoy doing them. I have used a variety of techniques over the years. My aim is to produce a really easy, basic way of producing personalised blocks.

Hi and thanks for this awesome video. I have question about the disctance between waist and hips in the minute 3.45 ( 22.5 ) it is by cm right . and in the measuremnt variable in the last point for the back you mean if the hips is large we will take the half of its size for the distance between waist and hips and the quarter if it is size average , right .

The 1/8 of an inch that is added for the neck width, does this increase for every 1 inch or 2 inch of bust size? Say a 45 inches bust, what would be the neck width.

Hi Angela, I've been following the instructions using my daughters measurements. However, the quarter hip measurement straight line isn't lining up to the underarm point as yours does. It's almost an inch out. What should I do?
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 7 жыл бұрын
Is your hip line point and inch out to the left or the right. I'm wondering if your back hip line is shorter than your back bust line, you may have measure your across back width to generously. Otherwise you may need to add some to the back hip line and balance it when you draft the front.
@Alisen12
@Alisen12 7 жыл бұрын
Soemthing went wrong with my drafting I guess... I used my measurements and also altered it later a bit (added a button stand and move the dart into the armhole which was not the best idea). Problem is, it gapes a lot at the chest and is too tight at the hips. Armholes are also too small but that might have to do with the dart thing. Can you (or anyone) think of a mistake I made? I re-measured all lines and they are accurate....

Hi, Angela. Your videos are very nice. I appreciate what you do. I am trying to learn the patternmaking and there are a lot of things I cannot understand. I have a question about this video, Part 2. At the very beginning: "The neck width is also graded according to the bust size with an addition of an 0.8-1"" How do I measure the bust size. In the video I saw you meausred 2". How did you get this number? Sorry if I missed this in Part 1. Thank you very much
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 8 жыл бұрын
+Cristina Covas Hi Cristina, I apologise because this video series was originally just for members and members have access to the ebook that includes the Pattern Drafting Variables. Non members can find the variables here angelakane.com/sewing_videos/sewing_lessons_pattern-drafting.php. I will add this link to the video. You can also find it on this page plus a video transcript of the series - angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/pattern-cutting/. Neck width is 2 ½" for 36/38" bust and then you add or subtract an eighth of an inch for larger/smaller sizes. The 2" measured along the bust line from the vertical line you have drawn down from the shoulder line, is the same for all sizes. Yes you are right, the bust measurement was taken in Part 1 and you use this when you come to calculate the Front Bust Width. Watch the beginning of Part 4 where this is explained. Watch it on this page and study the transcript angelakane.com/sewing_patterns/pattern-cutting/pattern-cutting-4.php. I agree it is quite complicated. I've attempted to explain it as best I can but really it is a question of trusting the instructions and practice until you understand what's going on. I hope that has helped a little.

could u explain a little what the "o" line stand for
@angelakanetv
@angelakanetv 6 жыл бұрын
A good question. Strictly speaking I should call this zero. I've always been in the habit of calling it 'O'. This is the point on the back line that all the other construction lines are measured from. It represents the nape of the neck and is between 1 and 1½" below the Top Line. On the front line the neckline construction lines are measure from the top line, so that is marked zero.

Yes, this is normal. You need the ease because of the shape of the shoulder blade. The extra can be eased in or you can have a narrow back shoulder dart.
