Those pants look great on you! A really great fit. Back in the day I read an article in Vogue Pattern Magazine that explained some of their criteria. The terms easy, difficult, advanced, etc had little to do with the actual difficulty constructing the garment, it was the amount of pattern pieces. I think it was 8 or less = very easy, then it went 9 - ? = easy, etc. They also spoke about garment ease, ie ; close fitting, loose fitting, very loose fitting and the inches of ease in each. All this used to be on their old website too. I miss that pattern magazine, it was really nice. Plus they used to have drawings for nice merch & I won a pair of Gingher shears. They had just started printing the handles. Mine have leopard print. I was thrifting today and I bought fabric to sell but none for myself. I found this amazing linen/rayon blend in a mid grey that would have made great pants but I didn't get it. That was a huge achievement for me, lol! Forgot to mention...use a color catcher in the washer when first washing any color/white prints. It may even work now. Just wash the fabric again with 2 of the catchers. It won't work as well if you dried in a hot dryer the 1st time. I prefer the ones made by Carbona but Shout makes a version too. They may be a bit easier to find but I've had better luck with Carbona

Hi Charlotte, thanks for the info about the difficulty level. I LOVED the Vogue pattern magazine. My mom used to get that when I was a kid and I would just drool over all the patterns. Also thanks for the color catcher tip several others have recommended the same thing. I couldn't find the Carbona version so I tried the shout ones and they worked!! 😀

You might try color sheets in the washer. I use Shout color Catchers in my washer, which usually helps. I have also noticed it helps with the wash (dirt, etc.). Just a suggestion. It is by scJohnson.

I really like the Fit on those pants so I hope I can find the pattern. I bought the Éléonore Jeans pattern from Jalie to make some Ponte pants but never have tried it yet. There are good tutorials online and even ones to add front pockets. Maybe make them a size bigger so not so tight? One thing that I would find useful is if you could do a video about different fabrics, I know what linens, cottons and corduroy etc but fabrics like rayons, polyesters, lining fabrics, chiffons, that you use for making slip dresses are kind of a mystery to me. I'm sure it's not easy to demonstrate on video without being able to feel and touch the fabric but showing the drape etc could be helpful. I don't even know what French terry is! Thanks for all your videos. Your knowledge is greatly appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi Rode! I have that Jamie pattern too. I made it a couple of years ago and I really liked it. Their patterns are easy to sew and their directions are great. I think sizing up for a slightly less fitted pant is a great idea. I'd love to hear how they come out. As for the fabric questions, thanks for asking! I did a video this week on French Terry and I will do more videos about other types of fabric in the future, this was a GREAT suggestion 🤗

That fabric/hoodie combo is everything. You need to find a Kenny Scharf gallery show - you’d look great with the paintings!

I have watched a few of your videos over the last couple years but just subscribed a few weeks ago. Commenting for the first time today as oddly enough I have sewn those Vogue pants and just got home from a trip to Toronto where I visited Riverside Fabrics this afternoon! I found the pants pattern quite frustrating. Those pockets drove me nuts. I really didn't like the construction or the way they looked. I used a stretch woven water resistant fabric as I was making them for my daughter as upscale climbing/hiking pants. Thankfully she liked them and they did fit nicely. I won't make them again. I have ordered online a few times from Riverside Fabrics and have always been happy with the quality and service. They have a 20% off sale at the moment and I was very pleased with my purchases today. I picked up a gorgeous floral print silk to make a How To Do Fashion NO. 00 Danmark top. Its going to be stunning 🤞. Of course I will have to cover it up with a sweater all winter 😂.

Hi Nancy thank you so much for watching and for subscribing I really appreciate that. Yes, those pants were a real trial weren't they? What was the purpose of that crazy square insert when you cover it up with a pocket? 😕Thanks for sharing your experience with Riverside fabrics, it's kinda crazy you were just there!

I would not have thought that pattern (as in the sewing pattern) would have made up so cool. It really looks awesome, I love it. Such a great combo with the design on the fabric too. Very creative, as always!

Thanks for all the fabric inspiration! Makes me want to shop ;) Just wanted to let you know in case you haven't tried this yet, Shout Color Catcher Dye-Trapping Sheets work great. Now I always use this when prewashing any kind of print - or actually most loads of laundry in general because I'm lazy about separating colors. I now don't have to worry about colors bleeding. I gave my daughter a box, and she said she even tried it on something that had already had color bleed on it, and it came out! You might try this on your pretty black-and-white print. I got a few sheets with a fabric order awhile back, and now it's one of my must-have products.

Love your sweatshirt and the fabric is so fun! Nice pairing! I have this pattern also and have been looking for the right fabric...the search continues but now maybe more concentrated. Looks like a great piece to wear. Your pants look so good, a little more tailored then others you have made. Looking good and your cozy wardrobe is shaping up! Happy Creating!

Love the black pants and sweatshirt. I already have the sweatshirt pattern but haven't made it yet. What size did you make the pants pattern in?
@thebigsewalong Жыл бұрын
Hi Vanessa, I made a straight size 14. Sorry I forgot to mention that in the video. The only change I made was to the length. I think I shortened them 2"
