Took a zero confirmation shot today with this same combo in my 301. My Dad (80) who is used to #4 lead happened to be with me. His reaction was priceless when he saw the Birchwood turkey 😮😮😮😮 😆

Great video. Here are my thoughts on counting hits in a 10” circle. I started turkey hunting 41 years ago. Back then we didn’t have Hevi Shot or TSS, everyone used lead. We also didn’t have turkey specific choke tubes that I knew of, most shotguns didn’t even have screw in chokes back then. At some point it became a standard to count hits in a 10” circle and 100 hits was considered a good turkey gun. 10” was used because a turkey can move it’s head around 10” in any direction when standing still. I believe it’s not necessary with the improvements in guns, chokes and loads we have today. I do think it’s a good thing to do as a baseline when making changes in your hunting setup. Things like developing a new load, using different chokes or even polishing your barrel can make changes so small you might not even notice them. This is where I believe having exact numbers would be beneficial for comparison. It’s a little tedious and I definitely wouldn’t be doing this if I were shooting multiple patters every day like you guys do. Thanks for the awesome content and keep the pattern tests coming!

Yessir it used to mean a lot more with the older setups but now I think the biggest impact with tss is chasin’ the 10 wastes a lot of money & time but that’s good for ammo & choke companies so they keep pushing it It’s very simple to see if a pattern will match your hunting applications without counting a single pellet as the next shell in the same box could be different regardless of

Jake, I watched 4 different pattern tests in 4 different 20 ga shotguns with the IC .555 and Verdict 3 inch #9's. No heads on the turkey target were spared.

@@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA, I've decided, after 25 years of turkey hunting, to try something other than lead. I've used Hevishot for varmints and coyotes with great success but, never tried anything besides copper plated lead for turkey. My buddy just picked up a Browning A5 and an Indian Creek .670 choke. We patterned it Apex #8 and 9's and Federal #9's, 3 inch 12ga. Both loads shot POA/ POI off of shooting stick at 40 yards. Gonna order an IC .660 choke for my 870 12ga and try some Apex. I'm gonna see what Verdict has to offer in 12 ga. Thanks for doing all the tests you, Moose and Hawk do.

I like your logic. Why count? It’s either good or it’s not. Personal preference.
@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA9 ай бұрын
That’s exactly right, counting only causes people to waste more money than needed just to get 7 more pellets in that 10 lol
@tylerisbell69169 ай бұрын
That 570 had more fliers so I would say that .555 is more dense

@BlueCollarOutdoorsUSA not sure how it happened. I shot my gun and my wife asked me to help for a second and went back to my gun to see no choke. At first I thought I left it out but after the second shot I seen it go flying.
