i use so many of these concepts in my job as a tattoo artist, super helpful and makes it easy to tell the client if i think they'd make a bad choice when following through with a design, size, placement or colouring that wouldn't suit them. and other than a piece of jewellery or clothing, you can't remove a tattoo easily or cheaply.

It's the opposite for me. I l9ve patterns but need to be selective to consider wearing them Patterns have to be delicate and low contrast to suit me. Geometric shapes I steer away from unless they are small amd detailed.

I hear you on the jewelry: I can't go too dainty/delicate either, since itty bitty pieces tend to disappear on me. Between my color season, my Kibbe ID, and whatever else, I tend to default to window shopping for sculptural art pieces in my recommended metals, stones, etc. Is it in perfect alignment with the trends? Probably not. Do I feel powerful when I wear a set of cuff bracelets or a striking collar necklace? Yes. And the best part is, these styles look natural and normal on me. I can't even imagine trying to wear symmetrical little stud earrings nowadays. As far as patterns I've been trying to honor the recommendations for season, style ID, and so on as with jewelry. This is a tough one because I want to keep some of the things I love (stripes, oversized houndstooth, tartan cut on the bias) while road testing the new recs (paisley, big rounded shapes in general). The one thing I have found is that I can pull off soft-edged abstract motifs and (possibly) marble print. Thank you so much for the video!

This! I follow Dear Peachie and they talk about faces with high or low visual weight. That's being the trickiest issue for me in all this styling journey (I'm not sure, but I think "low weight" means faces with more empty spaces, and "high weight" faces with almost no space between features. They should work with solid colors/big patterns and small patterns, respectively).
@YumeraChauque
@YumeraChauque 6 ай бұрын
@@ZurditaDinamita yes,but for me is very tricky too,for example,IU have low visual weight but is a bright spring,should she go large or small in the size of the patterns? People with round facial features tend to look good with polka dots,and ppl with angular maybe stripes? But if the person needs more contrast? I think visual weight may alows a person if for instance is light summer,maybe can go slightly darker but not straight up to deep,maybe medium . Anna bey is a woman with channel here on KZbin and she have the estereotipycal light summer features but she have high visual weight,which I think is the reason why she can pull of slightly medium tones or she just sit between light and cool summer🤷🏽‍♀️. Maybe people with low visual weight but brighter skin should just go for small but high contrast? Is very difficult 😑

I think this topic probably lands on practical tips for color analysis. I know when I started consuming color analysis content this was too much on top of sorting through a lot of confusing content. I would also say that, your own physicality can determine size of pattern and jewelry. I am 5'0 and diagnosed myself as bright winter, and I would probably venture that someone who is 5'7 and a bright winter would need larger patterns and jewelry. Kind of in the sense of what is high contrasting in a 4x4 square or what is high contrast in a 8x8 square. Which is that idea of what is enough contrast for me? If you are a noob and haven't checked out Christine Scaman's content on color analysis it could be helpful in understanding this subject. I watched a video how to be a bright winter, not true winter. She related bright winter as winter with a bit of spring. So compared to the other two winters you might need more "movement" where the other winters are more "still" in comparison. I have interpreted this to mean: placement of color, patterns, shine of fabric, shine of jewelry, sheerness or opacity of fabric, does the fabric move or is it stiff. I think all those things have some relation back to level of contrast. I think as Jenn has mentioned in color analysis, the temperature of a color is only one dimension - so having your palette is only one part of using color analysis to develop an outfit for yourself.

Never made this connection with patters... looking in my closet i see mostly b&w stripes and now i understand why lol! You're one smart cookie ;) I concur about your "speck of dust" comment on dainty jewelry too. Too true.

Great point about jewelry size/character that I think is a unique insight. I'm medium contrast and my jewelry needs to be medium, I've noticed. Too dainty just looks lost or fussy on me- too large looks unnatural and overwhelming. I thought it was because I was a "Natural" Kibbe type and needed more fluidity but it makes sense to think of it in terms of my contrast too. This is a very practical tip- honestly the money we'd save if we knew this up front!

A suggestion on larger jewellery - I love large art deco pieces and they are incredibly detailed. Large pieces don’t have to be plain and bulky if you like pattern so you can often get both and the designs are very strong in contrast which is perfect if you are a winter. Think black sapphires and white diamonds and platinum in a large statement choker. I wish!

This totally makes sense to me. Me - definitely an autumn, probably a true autumn. I realized in my 20s that I'm not someone who should wear complex patterns (I think it has something to do with my skin and features (skin with texture, bigger features) which look higher contrast/brighter when I go for solid color blocks and get overwhelmed with lots of patterns). In general, no stripes, no florals, unless very subtle in tone and not too small. I can wear plaids, paisleys and ombres as long as they are my colors. Jewelry is minimalist, large but not too large (I am in my 50s so am trying to avoid the statement necklaces but oh well! :D). I also have to say that Lupita's smaller more delicate features look so well balanced with smaller earrings. Contrast her style with Cynthia Erivo - also a petite woman, but so much more maximalist in jewelry and clothing. Both look smashing.

This was such good timing. I’m waffling over a pair of pants and this video just reminded me that the stripy geometric pattern that would be ‘ethnic’ in a more neutral color isn’t going to work any better for me just because it’s in shades of blue. Those pants would have gone in the part of my closet reserved for stuff I can’t figure out why it isn’t working.

The size and texture of jewelry is super important I find in how soft or bright the pieces are perceived, sometimes even more important than the actual color/brightness of the metal an sich. Also, as a flamboyant natural going bigger in the jewelry is key, intricate jewelry just disappears so may be also playing a role for you Jenn.

I've wasted so much money on hoop earrings too! I am short and petite and usually go for dainty jewellery. So I started out with thin medium hoops. Didn't love it, something looked unbalanced. So I went smaller. It was better but I didn't notice them as much. I thought maybe I need thicker hoops. So I tried that. I love thicker hoops, but my first few pairs were medium sized and it looked unbalanced again. Eventually after experimenting with like a dozen pairs, I've finally figured out my best hoops. Thicker, super tiny hoops that hug my ear. These are really hard to find, unfortunately. They need to be like 5mm diameter. My hunt for the perfect hoops definitely gave me an appreciation for how complex and not so obvious it can be to find one's most flattering style.

Have you ever explored Kibbe’s body types? It might help you understand your body type and how certain clothing / cuts / silhouettes suit certain body types better. For eg. I have a proportionate body type with strong bone structure making me a Dramatic Classic. Very long flowy dresses or skirts don’t suit me as well as something mid way with structure does. Of course I’ve oversimplified the system - it’s a bit more complicated than that 😅, but personally I found it very eye opening

Is it just me, or is it possible to connect some colour seasons to different decades? For example I feel like the characteristics of autumn was very present during the 1970s. I am a spring, and find it really hard to get inspiration from 70s fashion trends
@AngryTheatreMaker
@AngryTheatreMaker 6 ай бұрын
Yes and no. What we think of as 1970s fashion definitely leaned into a stereotypical Autumn palette, but people wore colors from other palettes as well. Similarly we think of 1950s fashion in terms of cupcake pastels and the like in spite of the abundant evidence from that era of women tweaking the trends in favor of palettes that suited them. (Actresses in the old studio structure were slotted into Robert Dorr's Color Key system, which was a precursor to Suzanne Caygill and her various successors. It's why you'll see Ava Gardner wearing a sumptuous sapphire blue ensemble while Grace Kelly is costumed in softer hues.)

I get what you’re saying. For example, when someone says 70s to me, I automatically think hippies or Brady Bunch and avocado/rust/harvest gold. I have to remind myself that it was also disco era and Farrah Fawcett and Mary Tyler Moore. I think if you’re wanting to capture the vibe, as a spring you can probably look for ways to brighten and/or lighten the palette. I’m a winter and I’ve had to learn to manage my contrast. Some of my practical tips: 1) reduce the tonal variety - eg, pick one shade of brown for your outfit, then one light color (closer to white than the really yellowish cream) and a limited number of contrasting brights like orange and yellow or pink and green- not all four at once (although if you’re warm spring you might pull that one off). 2) increase the pattern size so there are more chunks of one color in one spot - eg, groovy flowers instead calico. 3) make sure you have a focal point near your face- eg, if you’re wearing layers of necklaces, make one of them clearly bigger and chunkier and keep the others as small strings of gold-toned beads. 4) avoid brown-influenced colors. Instead of avocado, go for lime. Instead of rust, go for orange or coral. Instead of harvest gold, go for sunflower.

You keep coming back to contrast. Things are about to change for me. I have very light skin with very dark hair. But now I’m going to grow out my gray. I still hair dark eyebrows and dark hazel eyes. I’m not sure that you address this, as your viewers are probably younger. I’d live it if you’d give it a try.

I avoid stripes unless it's a very fine low contrast pin stripe on a trouser. I'm too curvy for anything too geometric/straight/bold. I love India prints, paisleys, abstracted florals, polka dots, medallion, anything rounded or blended or watercolor like. I like stripey tops & dresses on other people, just not me : -/

If your face structure is not dramatic you might need more delicate jewellery. I dont see dramatic in your face structure...
