Scraping drywall is satisfying, but so exhausting! I tried two methods to get the texture off and I found my fave, I think (but both were SO MESSY)!

Slow -- for just 2 workers and only in to it 2.5 weeks, I think you and Alan are doing a GREAT job. Oh the joy you will feel when it is complete. For someone who has never worked with drywall, I applaud you. Triple thumbs up.

When I saw the sander I was like ‘oh no! Doesn’t she know she can scrape it?’ But then…well done! It’s hectic keeping your arms above your head for so many hours. Remember to take a day off to simply relax every now and then. Renovation takes time- enjoy the process.

One of our children made a milk based hot chocolate in a vacuum mug for our other child. Left it on the kitchen counter. Kid didn't drink it, forgot all about it. I thought it was my husbands empty coffee mug. On day 4 it exploded rotten fermented hot chocolate all over the kitchen and up onto the textured ceiling... Which then began to fall down. Cue the start of removing all of the textured ceiling in our 2000sq ft home. Once you start you cannot stop. In the end I love the flat ceilings, but man am I triggered just watching you. It is such a chore. Definitely agree with the wetting and scraping method. I also spent countless hours spackling and sanding uneven areas, visible tape lines and popped drywall screws. May the force be with you.

There’s this stuff called 'Flood’. (Home Depot). You add it to your paint to eliminate roller marks. It makes a huge difference. It doesn’t water the paint down. The way I like to describe it is … it’s like adding spit to your paint. Just makes it kind of slicker.

Y'all are doing great and at a very good speed. Doing DIY is sooo much better such as with the pet stains on the floor if y'all had hired out to get this done I guarantee the floors would not have been primed. Taking the off the trim and cleaning out the dead bugs is another thing a contractor probably would not have done as good as you did. Once it is all complete you will enjoy a nice clean home that you cleaned and you absolutely know that it is sanitized and nothing creepy on the floors and in the walls. In 1984 we built a home and in 2009 we remodeled the kitchen and we found worker's lunches and soda water cans in between the walls. They probably thought it was funny. I didn't! Keeping on keeping on. I'm excited to see the kitchen remodel!!

You’re amazing!! How many times have you read that in the comments?😂 But it’s true. You’ve definitely taken advantage of KZbin University, and your grit and determination are obvious. I renovated our bathroom years ago, and I learned a lot, but when it came time to do it again we hired a contractor. I didn’t want to spend another week getting the plumbing to stop leaking😂 You already have more skills than I did, and I am so enjoying following along. Thank you🥰

I have done some of these same things to my own house, and I know that feeling that it's a chore just to even lift your arms after the first day or two, but your mind says "just keep going". Like you, I have the attitude of "well, I've never done it, but I watched some people who did, so I know I can!". Sometimes, it comes back around to bite me. But I persevere! You both will be so proud of your accomplishments when this is all complete and it's YOUR hard work. Cheers! I am totally in awe of you scraping those ceilings! 😮 We had those stippled ceilings in our house too, it was obviously a "thing" back in the day. (I think the idea was that they covered up any surface imperfections...) They were painted many times but always looked shabby. We hated them, but tolerated them for years. Eventually we got a plasterer in to reskim all our ceilings. OMG what a difference! 😁 Now they're smooth and lovely 😊 What you've achieved is miraculous, don't underestimate it! You rock this home renovation game! 👍

You picked up that wall sander to use on the ceiling and I thought, nope, that isn't going to happen. Bet your arms were screaming at the end. I would have used the water like you did but put a 10'' blade on a 4 or 5 foot pole. You can then stand on the floor to push the wet plaster off. Good job, lots of work!

Things are moving along. Not sure why you would use a drywall sander on the ceiling. Basically scraping the ‘popcorn’ textured ceiling is the most efficient. Either way your back, shoulders and arms are going to get sore. You need a massage therapist needs to either come to you both or you go to them. Trust me, indulge. Still looking gorgeous. Just get a bug, to include termites, exterminator plan and have them include your attic space. Now you like power tools! So happy for you!

Casey, as I was watching I was thinking that you guys are moving along soooo fast, you have accomplished A LOT in a short period of time! It's starting to look really good. Odd about the dead bugs though, it may be a good idea to get a pest control company to spray around the outside of the house, at the base. You'll always have more bugs than you are used to as you are in the country but that seems to be an odd infestation.

Nice job on getting that ceiling texture smoothed out. I was surprised that it hadn’t been painted. You lucked out there. We repainted our ceilings (they had a bit of a sheen ) using actual ceiling paint. Who knew there was such a thing? Made the job easy and the flat finish vastly improved the look of our ceilings.
