People tend to overestimate just how fast the fire cock actually is because of speed boost tbh. Without that ability it's probably a middling starter at best

I've been using Kilowattrel in a rain team alongside Archaludon, Male Meowstic, Politoed, Rillaboom, and Incineroar, and it is doing some amazing work.

Killo is a good tailwind setter but there are 4 guys in reg H who can set tailwind with priority being talon, volbeat?, whim and murkrow so it doesn't see much usage. It still is fast and hits hard tho so could be used

I just encountered a full starter, pledge team. I got whooped because I didn’t even know what to expect, the chip damage from the grass and fire combo move, and the overall power. But the rillaboom kept on using grassy glide against my farigiraf, I was using a trick room set with imprison, and it didn’t do anything because the grassy terrain made it priority against iron tail

One thing I don't understand is Torkoal's low speed stat being called a weakness. It can actually be a strength if both players lead with a weather setter. In those cases, the faster Pokémon will set the weather first, then the weather will change to the condition set by the other Pokémon. So you want your Pokémon to be slower than the opponent in those cases. Sometimes this interaction can catch people off guard. Five years ago, I played against someone who started with Alolan Ninetales, whereas I chose Hippowdon to go first. Hippowdon was slower, so the hail changed to sandstorm. My opponent didn't realize this and tried to use Aurora Veil, which failed because there was no Hail. Sadly, I still lost that battle (because of unlucky freeze shenanigans. Some of my battles in S/V also started with me changing the weather from rain to sun before turn 1 thanks to Torkoal's low speed. So being slow isn't always a weakness.

Being slow also makes for a very good Trick Room attacker. Eruption Torkoal in Trick Room can be a very scary threat

I think prim is my favorite starter and LV not working like pixilate is such a terrible liability. Her usage would be 10% in restricted formats minimum. 30-40% in most non restricted.

The second best starter pokemon is grass incineroar. Mf just took the old assault vest set and made it grass. Hilariously, incineroar is almost always ran as Tera grass while grass incineroar is tera fire. Maybe grass incineroar is inaccurate. But when you consider that it hits like a truck with recoil, thanks wood hammer, fake out, and is mostly there to support with fake out and pivoting, it’s just so much like classic incin. Give that gorilla parting shot and baby we’re in business. It’s not ad useful though considering it doesn’t have intimidate. But grass incineroar is something else

Greninja not being on this list felt like a crime, but it makes sense…Greninja did what ninjas do best. They go in for a swift attack ( X&Y, Sun&Moon, US&UM ) and then slink into hiding in the shadows to may or may not attack again ( SV )😭. He will get his second wind one day! ( Preferably with his other signature move coming back…)

Hot take: Mega Charizard Y is 100x better than Mega Charizard X both in visuals and usefulness (I kinda hate Mega Charizard X for being such blatant shameless gen 1 pandering along with it just being a massive outlier with the other Kanto starter megas showing that it was clearly an afterthought designed to pander to nostalgia) (Also with you mentioning Yu-Gi-Oh Cyber Dragons maybe you should react to Rata's Archetype Archive: Cyber Dragon video)

10:11 - It's the opposite for me, mainly because of how slow & dull GF made Scarlet & Violet battling... It's just not fun to watch compared to other JRPGs! And after being on an Atlus kick & playing through Persona 3 Reload, SMT V Vengeance & Metaphor Re:Fantazio demo, the slow combat, boring UI, stagnant character animations, etc. If they could just speed things up, especially status notifications & stat changes, while also making characters & camera movement more dynamic & alive, I'd love it
